I recently wrote a negative review of this restaurant, specifically about a Valentine’s day special take out meal that was a disappointment. Previous meals we have had from Sage & Onion have been good, this one wasn’t. One of my complaints was a lack of response to an email I had sent them about our experience. It transpired that there was a problem with their email and my message was misrouted. I have heard from Sage & Onion since then and they have been extremely helpful and are looking into the problem. I will be going back to try them again — I trust that my experience was a minor glitch in an otherwise fine record.

Been here several more times. Won’t order the Tri tip again but found some other good options. Enjoy the breakfast burritos and the brisket sandwich. Great service too… Nice to have a local place turn the corner.

Great food, great service! I had the tomatoes/eggs on toast, it was delicious– the toast was really tasty. Great way to start the day.

I ordered a chicken Caesar salad from here today and it was terrible. Most of the chicken was old dark meat which was pretty disgusting and(I’ve never seen dark meat in a chicken Caesar salad!) the pieces were extremely skimpy too. In addition, to top it all off, one of the pieces of chicken had a bone in it! Never ordering from this place again since my lunch has been ruined.

Quality ingredients but poorly executed. My poached eggs were rubbery, pre cooked bacon was hard. Toast was dry with no offering of honey or jam. My husband had a lunch sandwich which was excellent. I would only return for lunch, not breakfast.

Quaint little place for a salad or sandwich when you’re running around town and just need something quick this little place is great. I love the chicken curry salad. Yum!

Nice coffee/breakfast place. The baked good looked nice — we had warm breakfast that was excellent.

Went there for lunch today. Service is great and food is excellent. My wife had Martin special sandwich and I had the joevo Ranchero. Ambience is good and relaxing.

The customer service was very satisfactory, and I was informed that the previous pricing was incorrect. Upon revisiting the result was much more pleasant :)

I had the chicken pesto sandwich, and I swear it had a hint of curry in it. All in all, very delicious. Perfect lunch spot!

Sandwiches are good, but I really think they’re overpriced. I paid ~$ 10 for a tuna melt, and it was a very simple sandwich with at most four ingredients. Although it was good, I think I’d rather go somewhere else to get a sandwich for the same price that contains more ingredients. However, the staff is super friendly and there is free wifi! I think they only give it to customers, though, because she wrote down the Wi-Fi password for me after I purchased the sandwich. This café is connected to XO Coffee, which I have yet to try, but it’s pretty cool how there’s a little hallway connecting the two. I came here to study for my finals, and I really liked the place for it. The only downside is that it closes pretty early, I think it was 5? But I guess a sandwich café usually doesn’t stay open for that long anyways?

LOVETHISPLACE. I come here at least once a week during my lunch break. Their food is always fresh and delicious! I usually go for the Santa Fe salad and homemade soup. Their beef and vegetable soup and the bacon chowder is SOGOOD! I’ve also tried their latte at XO Coffee and it was perfect and smooth. The staff here are so friendly! They always remember me when I come in and are very kind and personable. Coming here doesn’t really feel like going out to eat – the food tastes straight from grandma’s kitchen. Fresh and yummy and one-of-a-kind. Definitely recommend to friends all the time!

I’ve been wanting to write a review on this place since Dec. My husband and I went to SB for NYE, and luckily we were able to eat at this amazing restaurant! The name of the place sparked my interest, and after reading the story behind it we decided to try it out. It is simply delicious, great quality food from people who love what they do! Food=I tried the turkey breakfast sandwich and smiled with each bite. Coffee was amazing, and we got a few muffins to go and we LOVED them. Place=Casual, quiet, clean, comfy Service=Genuine people with happy spirits! I can’t wait to go back the next time I am in the Goleta/Santa Barbara area!

Really not the best place for a sandwich. I ordered the beef brisket and it came out looking like roast beef with an old meat taste. My boo ordered the hot pastrami and it was okay… Tasted like ham but was just okay. It’s a good place to grab a quick bite(nice airy parking lot, outdoor tables with the convenience of a coffee shop next door) but it’s way too expensive for the mediocre quality. The only good thing was the breads they used. Three Pickles is way better. P. s. Careful when reading reviews, decipher which are fake.

I had heard such rave reviews about this place… This place sucks! Sandwich was 9 bucks and was put together with not much thought or effort at all. The bread was 3rd rate, the sauce on this«hickory chicken» sandwich was grocery store grade… I went away disappointed and broke.

This gets two stars for online ordering and friendly customer service. I usually trust Unilocal to find the best places in town, but this time I felt like the reviews were very far off from my own experience. I ordered several sandwiches and salads for a lunch meeting. The pictures on the order page look very enticing. However, once I got the salads back to the office, I literally couldn’t tell the difference in the salads. They all looked identical: full of lettuce and not much else. I literally had to search the caesar salad to find the chicken. I don’t consider myself a picky person, but I couldn’t finish my salad because it was so bland. Feedback from other employees was that the sandwiches were OK. I won’t be ordering from Sage and Onion again.

Do yourself a favor and go here now. For lunch or for breakfast and coffee. They are close enough to Ucsb that they are a good off campus lunch destination. The uk atmosphere is refreshing. The sandwich and salad and drink selections are great. Try the pastrami sandwich for your own good– my heart breaks when they say they’ve run out for the day. Everything I’ve had here is great. And the service is very nice and courteous– both the front area folks and the kitchen staff. One day I called in a to go order before they closed at 5 and they were very nice about it and said that if I wanted to come right after 5– and not leave work a touch early to make it there before 5– that they’d still be there for me to pick up my order. Now that’s just unheard of in this town. And if that isn’t a strong enough review– I had them cater a work dinner party and everything was beyond awesome including staying within our budget but not having it appear so. The service and food were beyond expectation. And i cater quite a bit in my job. I hope to use them again. Cheers!

Small, cute, clean, welcoming, service with a smile, not pretentious, fresh food that’s healthy and clearly not a chain. It’s near the SBA airport(10mins) if you’re catching a flight, waiting for an arrival or aircrew. I had breakfast, simple but flavorful, fresh made oatmeal with fresh blueberries and bananas, lightly covered with steamed half and half and lightly sprinkled brown sugar. Devine. Prices seem completely reasonable for such fresh(real) food. Not Denny’s cheap but certainly not Whole Foods prices either.

This is a five-star establishment. My wife and I just discovered this relatively new café. The place is clean, the food is healthy, the coffee tasty! Customers receive free-wireless and comfortable seating. This little café is the cleanest in town and offers a great value for your dollar. In addition, the interior decorator or whoever selected the décor is a genius. So clever and charming. Awesome ambiance. We look forward to our next visit.

This place is really cute inside, love the personal touches of the owners. If you want some great home style meals at a reasonable price, make this place your staple. I’m a sucker for good scrambled egg dishes, and throw in awesome pastries… I’m hooked! Staff is friendly and had good suggestions to fit my appetite. Floors and restrooms are clean and new. Décor is homey and comfy. What a great hometown spot. They even do outstanding dinners to-go!
