I recently attempted to go to Westbrook’s own Catbird Creamery and they were sadly closed. Beal’s offered the closest alternative without going into Portland proper, but after having my heart set on artisanal, hand-crafted goodies this was an inevitable letdown. The featured flavor of the month, Banana Pudding, was right up my alley, but the actual taste was just kind of generic bland cold. My husband did enjoy his cone, and I think they have a fair amount of decent options, I just ordered poorly. Good location, nice people, needs to step up the flavor game.

Not much to rave over here. Butter pecan had so few pecans I thought staff gave me just vanilla. The almond butter better but very sweet. Both Lack a rich, dense, bite into flavor and texture. Some of our favorite ice cream shops in southern Maine area; Big Daddy’s North in Buxton, Catbird Creamery Westbrook, Ballpark ice cream in OOB, Baleys OOB, Norway/South Paris soft serve(get the hard serve delicious), Dunnes at Cape Neddick. All these make delicious ice cream that will have you making the drive for more. If it’s custard ice cream you like or have yet to try Classic Custard in Freeport is exquisite.

We always stop in here on our way home from visiting friends in Gorham or a trip to Randall’s Orchard. My only beef is they are out of flavors sometimes. I’m a Gifford’s girl mostly, but Beals from this stand is pretty tasty!

As a certified«former» fat kid, I would make love to this place if I could. I love their ice cream, their employees, and their atmosphere. Classic family ice cream and better than any chain. Try the blueberry ice cream… soo good.

What else can I say about an ice cream place, except great things? I rarely travel to or through Gorham anymore, but when I do I like to stop here for a cone. In the middle of summer, the lines will be long but have patience. The staff are quick to scoop and will get through the line quickly. Sometimes I don’t mind a long line. It gives me a chance to ponder the many options. Do I want a swiss cone or a dish? Do I still with tried and true Grasshopper or walk on the wild side with something new? It’s always a tough call for me. Unless the temperature is sweltering, I’ll almost always opt for a swiss cone. I can eat it fast enough that it won’t become a melty mess all over my clothes. There are plenty of benches to sit and enjoy your ice cream, plus a big parking lot. If the weather is nice, that parking lot will be packed.

Beal’s is a good standby for ice cream, but Maine has seriously upped it’s ice cream game and Beal’s doesn’t really cut it any more. The ice creams with cookie dough or oreos — they are barely in there. There is better ice cream around. I want Beals to do well — and they could if they put a little more into the ice cream and didn’t sell stale cones. I do love their Indian Pudding ice cream in the fall though — and sadly they were out the other night.

I mean, can you really go wrong with Beal’s? This location has a decently sized lot and outdoor seating — woohoo! Everything is great — try it all. :)

I have no complaints about the ice cream, parking, or seating. I always get chocolate dough boy with chocolate sprinkles in a waffle cone, park right away, and always have a place to sit. The prices may be slightly expensive for ice cream, but it tastes so good! I have to say though, the customer service was terrible. I showed up with a group of 3 others around 8:40(their hours are 12 – 9) and walking by the window, one of the working girls looked at us, rolled her eyes, put her head in her hands and just looked miserable. We walked up to the window(clearly still reviewing the flavors they had available) and the girl working the register said rudely and very impatiently«I can take your order right here». We all felt rushed and not very welcome. They weren’t very friendly when calling out orders either. We sat outside for a bit enjoying our ice cream and watched numerous groups of people continue to pull up PAST9:00. I really love their ice cream so it’s hard for me to give them anything less than 4 stars, but their customer service was atrocious and ruins the experience for me. I think maybe next time I’ll try a different location.

$ 20 dollars for 4 small ice cream cones, and the waffle cones were stale! Ripoff, with no offer of a refund! Never again!

This place has excellent ice cream and the portions are huge! It is always really busy when we go in the summer. There is plenty of parking, and if you wait a few minutes, you can usually find a bench or a picnic table to sit at. Quick service — nice place to stop for a weeknight treat!

Rockin ice cream. Lots of choices, all made in house. Great place to get a huge scoop of ice cream, sherbet, or sorbet

If in the area, this is a great treat for yourself. The ice cream is great and the prices are low. They give out pretty big scoops. Our three scoop cone was $ 5 so go all out and get yourself two or three of their many homemade ice cream flavors. Plenty of parking and turnaround is pretty quick. There’s bound to be a line when you go but it’s worth the wait.

I was in Maine with friends for the AGS Conference and on the last day we were driving south out of Maine and visiting a few cemeteries on the way. A friend is from near here and suggested that we have ice cream. She said it was the best in Maine(she’s from Maine) and we stopped off. Actually, we visited the cemeteries to kill time till the opened. It is an outdoor place so I imagine it is seasonal. The ice cream was great, I mean really great. I had three scoops the getting hard to find French Vanilla was tasted just right, Butter Pecan, which was full of excellent pecans and German Fudge Cake… which is pretty incredible. So go there if you live close, if you are in Southern Maine, it is worth a visit! You could probably even find a day of things to do there!

First, the place looks absolutely terrible outside. The picnic tables are so disgusting that you’d have to be nuts to even sit on one. The area looks terribly unkempt and could use some simple mowing, trimming, etc. How about some upkeep, folks? The ice cream is very mediocre and even their blueberry ice cream has gone downhill. The worst is the attitude of the staff there. More than likely, the teenage girl at the window greets you with a grunt and a grimace as though you are somehow ruining her day by showing up for ice cream. A simple«Thank you!» is getting more and more rare. I won’t be going there anymore as I can no longer stomach the purchasing process nor the product.
