Used to love this place, until this last visit. Two changes happened: 1. Service is not the same. It has become slower and last two times we got the wrong order. 2. Menu changed. They used to have the best dinner/lunch specials. Now it’s just blah. What is left of the place is good. Just not great any more.

Food was good as far as taste goes, but some of the rolls are too big. I had a difficult time eating it because it would fall apart due to the size.

All right this is my first review for Sushiraw but my third visit. I remember this being a decent sushi kind of place though last time there I am sure I had the chicken curry, but that matters not. This time it was strictly sushi, and since my last 2 sushi experiences were good memories I was hoping for the hat trick. We got in for an early dinner on a Saturday night, about 6 and found the place about ¼ full. We found a table and soon made our choices immediately after our drink orders. Food came out quick and my first strike against them was having to ask for a water refill, that seemed unusually slow. Strike #2 was my water re-fill was warm tap water with no offer of ice. On to the food, sushi came out one after the other and we dove in at once. Sushi rolls were the non-traditional type if you were at a real authentic Japanese Sushi bar, lots of sauces and unusual combinations towards the ingredients, but my biggest issue was the lack of seasoned sushi rice. The rice was just a starchy mess that stuck to the plate but fell apart before you could get it in your mouth, ugh! The one saving grace was the Nude roll, which came with no rice rolled in a rice wrapper that was slightly chewy but delicious as it was adorned so lovely with the beautiful restraint of its accompanying sauce. Maybe it was just an off night or my memories of sushi past were foggy at best, but next time I go sushi, I will be more choosy about were I spend my hard earned cash, Aloha.

One of my go to places for sushi. Great service and great prices! The owners are one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. You are always greeted when you enter the restaurant and the staff is so accommodating. I would definitely recommend this place to any and all people. Food is always fresh and always comes out quickly.

*** FOODPREPAREDWITHHAIR(PUBE?) *** I went here last night with my wife since we had just moved into the area. We have tried most of the establishments in this Devonshire/Balboa plaza. It’s within walking distance from our home so the night strolls with our pup are nice. We came here last night on 4÷4÷16 to pick up an order of 911 roll and an order of the Spicy Tuna roll. The 911 roll was not spicy at all. The spice level from a bag of hot cheetos is more spicy. Please change the name of the 911 roll. It is not spicy. The Spicy Tuna roll is standard. The amount of Tuna for the price, I can’t complain. Service was terrible. We were told 20 – 25 minutes for our to-go order. After 45 minutes, my wife goes inside to ask about our order and what do you know, the order is sitting right at the sushi chef’s prep area. Who knows how long it was sitting there. The most insulting part is that the restaurant was practically empty when we had made our order. Please see attached photo of the quality at which the food is prepared. After getting to the second to last spicy tuna roll, my wife discovered a hair. Oh, the hair is curly, if you know what that means, too!

Food was good but service was a one star they took for ever to get our drinks and the worst part was they weren’t even busy. Bus Boy was super cool and was the only one with a good attitude. Will probably try another place next time.

I’ve been to this place a couple of times. Food is good but the service is bad. They don’t welcome you they don’t smile. I asked for a table and the guy said ok. Did nt tell me how long it was going to be. They don’t speak English. Which I don’t think is an excuse for bad service. A smile is universal. Anyway they lost my business. So, if you want good service this isn’t the place.

Decided to try this place out with my family for the first time before heading to the movie and was pleasantly surprised! Upon entering the restaurant we were immediately greeted and seated. The place looks clean and has a nice ambiance, with Japanese decors on the walls and a bamboo room divider to give the room some separation. The staff seemed friendly and service was decent. The food tasted great, however, it’s a bit pricey and the portions was not as big as the other Japanese place we frequent. Would definitely come back again when we’re too lazy to drive down to our favorite Japanese restaurant or when we’re in the area!

This is our family’s favorite local sushi place. Great variety of rolls and fair prices. They have a great lunch special deal, too.

Worst ever! I got food poisoning off their lobster roll. Which by the way was disgusting. Does not compare to the other lobster rolls I’ve had. It has a very fishy taste. It took a while for our server to bring our drinks. And it was not busy but took long to get our order. I had been there before but after this experience never going again. I would recommend Xevichez sushi bar for any sushi lover.

Came here on Friday(01⁄22) w/my boyfriend & service was nearly nonexistent. We were seated right away, but it probably took 10 minutes to get our order in. In those ten minutes, I asked a simple question about the sushi but was redirected to a server who didn’t even have an actual answer. Are you kidding me? Also, after our server took our order, he was never seen again. We ordered 3 rolls & they tasted okay. Not the worst sushi I’ve ever had but definitely not memorable. Honestly I feel like Shogun tastes better … After we ate our rolls, it probably took another 10 minutes to get our check… Then after they took our payment, it took another 5 minutes to get my card back. During our visit, we also heard a woman complain to the server that she had asked for something 3 times & still hasn’t received it. It seemed like all the servers were moving quickly, but not getting anything done. Probably won’t be back.

I haven’t even tasted my food yet but the fact that I ordered a bunch of food to go and they charged me extra for hot sauce really bothers me. I don’t think I’ll be back.

Took my daughter here for her 16th birthday. Food was good, but the service was TERRIBLE! Who gives someone a FORKTOEATSOUP? Seriously. Was never offered reffils on our beverages. They definitely need better servers!

This place is really good. I like coming here. They have chicken or beef teriyaki roll on top of California roll. So good. And of course you should have the plum wine to go along with your meal. I get the California roll on soy paper. The meal is filling and they serve a small portion of shredded dikon radish I believe with ginger dressing. It’s really good too. It’s a must try place for fresh sushi. I like that it’s close by and the portions are good for the price. Don’t forget to try thier Japanese brown rice green tea. It’s refreshing.

I’ve been coming here for years. Some nights this place is really packed. I love the chicken teriyaki roll. Daniel is the best, very friendly and easy to talk to. I only notice him working on Sundays though. I’ve had some rolls taste different and some service better than others. It’s just close to my house and convenient.

Meh. I’ve experienced better. Rolls are typical. A bit pricey. Ate here for lunch but probably wouldn’t come back. I ordered an ell hand roll. They came back and told me it was $ 1 more than the menu price, but I said yolo. It was great but $ 6.99? Damn.

Ok, so it’s not THEBEST, however, on occasion, they get it right! Sit at the bar, I mean, at a sushi restaurant, always sit at the bar. You will always have better service.

You get what you pay for, we usually come here for the oyster shooters but they were out this past weekend. The only sushi I really enjoyed was their toro.

I have been coming here for years! It used to be amazing, Daniel is a great sushi chef and always makes the best rolls and great presentation. Lately, its just been okay. The presentation is not the same, and the service is bad. I had to keep waving down the bus boy because the waiter was nowhere to be found. Its not like the sushi is cheap here, so I expect better presentation. Fish is fresh, I will be coming back but maybe only when Daniel is working
