Great old drive-in, get there early the line backs way up in the summer months, have not been in long time since the one on 45 opened.

The Brazos drive in is a lot of fun! It was our first time to a drive in and we all loved it. You can’t beat a double feature for $ 20. Especially with a family of 5.

Bathrooms need help(a lot of help) but other than that, the place is great for a double feature.

I love this place, although it’s a bit on the small side, so get there early. The spots are decent size and the reception for the movie(car-radio station) is pretty clear. The concession stand doesn’t have a whole lot, but you are allowed to bring your own food and drinks. What they do have is reasonably priced, however. Bring some lawn chairs for sure, although if you can’t stay in your car comfortably the whole, they do have outside seating by the concession stand.

The Brazos Drive-In was built in 1952, and has been in continuous operation since. It is one of the few remaining original drive-in theaters in Texas. The Brazos Drive-In has one screen and original old concession building as well. The Drive-In is a reminder of the euphoric post World War II era in American and Texas history. Mr. and Mrs. Fort Keith built the Drive-In in the style of Art Deco, which was highly popular in the 1950’s. The Brazos Drive-In was designated a Granbury Historic Landmark by the City of Granbury Historic Commission October 7, 2003 and re-designated a permanent landmark April 1, 2008. This information was obtained from the city website describing all the historic landmarks in town.

I haven’t been to a drive in since I was a little kid, I heard about this place last summer and when a friend was visiting with his kid, we went. Even though it was July when we went, it wasn’t as unbearably hot as one would think it would have been. They also had outdoor seating near the snack bar which totally reminded me of Grease! What I liked: Inexpensive — I think it was $ 20 for the whole carload(although there were only 3 of us) We could also bring in our own drinks and food so we had plenty of snacks but there was a snack bar when we ran out of beverages. Fun! — We stayed for both films of the double feature. We played cards old school style until the movie started, but there were also kids playing in a front area. Friendly — There were a lot of people around so there was definitely some opportunities for bonding with others there. Plus the staff was all very nice and helpful. What I wish I had thought about: Lawn chairs. I don’t know why it didn’t dawn on me to bring lawn chairs and just sit outside the car. Probably because I haven’t been to a drive in in 30 years. We backed into the space and opened the back of my scion and put the seats down to be comfy. But if all the way in, I think it was hard to see due to the shape of my car. Next time, lawn chairs all the way. What I worried needlessly about: Car battery. They don’t have the old school tinny speaker boxes so I was mildly concerned about running the car battery for 4ish hours while we listened to the movies on the radio. All my childhood lessons of «No we can’t do that because the battery will die» ran through my head while we watched our movies. Luckily mine didn’t die, but it seems like enough regulars are around who carry jumper cables to help a person out if it did die. Also if you are parked close to the snack bar, they are blasting it so you can hear it without using the car radio.

Love the nostalgic, back yard feel of this place. Bring some lawn chairs, a couple beers and some snacks, and it’s just like hanging out in the neighborhood. I wish they showed something a little more suitable for people over the age of 13 and had more of a selection at the snack bar, but I suppose since you can bring in whatever you want, it doesn’t much matter. Don’t forget your military ID for $ 5 off a car load!

Haven’t had alot of experience with drive-ins so our first time was a little rough. Next time we will be better prepared! Should have brought the cooler of drinks, blankets, pillows, and itouches for the kids who got bored and started war in the car… darn kids. Very nifty thing to keep going and really lots of fun. Popcorn was good decent restrooms and great sound quality-I will definitely be back again!
