2 words, and then a few more.. Humpty Dumpty. That burger is killer. I get it with bacon, wowzers. That jalapeño seasoning on your fries, nice! And the staff, keep up the awesome work.

JL Beers was suggested to me by a friend who went to school at UND — he said it was the best burger he’d ever had. While I can’t agree with that, the burger was pretty darn good and I love the choices of flavor on the fries and chips. Dipping sauces are a huge plus, too. And prices? Great! Got the burger, fries, and dip for under $ 10(but then I blew the budget by getting a growler of one of the sour beers to go). Staff here were absolutely fantastic — they were infinitely patient with my friend, who has a severe allergy and asked a ton of questions as to how the burgers are cooked. Thanks very much to the staff for their kindness and consideration in this area!

Nothing fancy on the menu, but they have a wonderful, creative selection of burgers that are well prepared and taste great. I really enjoyed the JLapeno burger. My only complaint was I thought the patio was a little small. The fries with jalapeño and cheddar were excellent. A definite hit The JL burger was excellent. A good size, great flavour. The chips with sea salt were nice and crisp, but bland. We ordered the dipping sauce, beer & cheddar?, and it made them work. Really enjoyed the food and would definitely come back

JL never disappoints. We love this location(but then again, we have yet to have a bad experience in Fargo, West Fargo or Bismarck). Staff is great and friendly, food is always delicious and we always leave feeling happy. I recommend the BLTBLU burger, my husband swears by the Buffalo BLU chips. Oh, don’t forget to send a BEERMAIL postcard out to your friends or family. :)

The good: the homemade potato chips are fantastic! Crunchy and crisp with good salt. Also, the service was quick and efficient. The bad: the bbq burger was nothing special; literally on par with a close-by fast food place that started a line of thicker hamburgers several years ago. I asked for medium, but realized when the burger came it’s so thin that well-done is the only possibility. A place that only does burgers and says they are experts… well, I want more than higher quality fast food with fake American cheese slices and a low-quality white bread bun. In all seriousness I suggest a road trip to Kansas City to Blanc, you’ll get to taste truly gourmet burgers. Or check out a Red Robin.

Good food, but be aware that it is limited to burgers. No salad, no soup, it’s burgers or nothing. For vegetarians, they do offer a bean based burger option(didn’t have it though.) Burger was fresh and good. Potions for sides was chips or fries. Chips are made in house and fresh. I had the Rajun Cajun burger which was good. It had Cajun lime sauce on it… but it was mostly just Cajun. Their beer menu is amazing, but we were there for work and unable to partake. I’d go back just to try the different options.

The JL burger is solid. Personally i’ll add some spic to it next time. My 1st time having beer cheese dip, with home made chips, its quite good. A little in the burger was good also. Their beer selection is quite good. Was surprised not to find at least 1 Linenkugel. The Squaters Sociable hit the spot. If you like sports, there are plenty of TV’s.

Definitely recommend the Cajun burger. Their beer selection includes some of the best from Oregon(microbrew capital of the world) and they have 40 taps(and three bottles). But if you can’t find what you want in a draft, you don’t deserve such a cool place. The best part is, they give you postcards and mail them for you with their postage! They shout«BEERMAIL!» and all the patrons shout it right back because it’s such a fun thing. HOWEVER: Some of the servers will avoid taking your postcards because they clearly hate the«beer mail» thing. They’ll glance at them, then pretend they didn’t notice. And if you hold them up, they also pretend not to notice. You have may have to flag down a manager to get your mail taken. They’ll also give you as many postcards as you want. I mailed them to everyone back home. Glad my roommate took me here.

Great place with friendly people. Just passing through Grand Forks on a road trip and enjoyed my much needed beer(I was staying the night) and burger.

Possibly the best burgers in town. Be prepared to be nickled and dimed if you want to customize, though. Bonus, you can watch taters get prepped and fried into tasty fries or chips.

«You done here?», says the twenty-something barkeep. That’s refreshing honesty. But much more impressive than that honesty in language as compared with the ever so polite but annoying work reference, «Are you done working?» «Uh, yep, quit workin’ before I came in here to eat dinner» — was the slightly older twenty-something fry cook who threw away a moldy potato instead of slicing and frying it. I was watching that moldy potato miss the cut as one after another of its compatriots were selected for the high pressure auto-fry cutting machine. I was placing an internal bet on whether or not it would be thrown out or cooked alongside all the good ones. It was inspected, considered, and … thrown out!!! This fry cook’s father should be proud — he’s not yet a doctor or lawyer and he may never be, but he ‘done good’ — he didn’t feed the moldy potato to an unsuspecting anonymous customer. Congratulations! Clearly, he is too nice to be a lawyer or doctor. Oh, the food? Yep, cole slaw was outstanding — fries were good and fresh — I know cause I watched them air pressure cut ‘em and deep fry ‘em while I ate mine. The All-American Cheeseburger? Excellent as it was 3-years ago on my last visit! I like this place! Cheers!

Love this little bar, felt like being in the city. Simple easy menu which I enjoy. Hate straining my eyes over a Perkins style menu only to always get a burger. Beer selection was great, so great I got day drunk. They gave us a discount, free growler and a hangover at 500 in the afternoon. I’d say it was worth it.

JL Beers is a pretty neat little burger joint with a huge selection of beers(hence the name). The menu isn’t full of variety, it’s pretty much burgers and fries. But, these burgers are made with care and not just some mass-produced stuff you’d find at other places. It’s also easy to come out of here with plenty of money still in your wallet, as prices are more than reasonable. Overall, a nice burger place with tons of different beers to choose from. I don’t get to come here often but whenever I do it’s a treat!

I will start by saying that if I lived here I’d give this place 1 more shot before saying I’d never come back. My co-worker really liked the burger she got. I am a blue cheese lover, but the blue cheese on my burger did not taste like quality blue cheese at all and ruined the flavor of the whole thing. I’d never order it again and I’d try something else. The loaded chips were delicious… a heart attack in a basket basically. There is a wide variety of beer on tap. I never know what to order and they didn’t have my 4 go to beers on tap or in a bottle… so that kind of sucked. But Bud Light when in doubt. PS… burgers are a la carte… aka sides are separate. But here is why I gave it a 2: 1) This place charges for EVERYTHING!!! Charge $ 1.69 for a side if ranch. Charging for tomatoes and lettuce on your burger(I added pictures TRUSTME)?!? Such a great idea to charge for adding the healthy stuff on your burger… a sarcastic 2 thumbs up! Annoyed me the most to have to pay for the 2 things that are staple on a burger. I can go to 5 Guys and get all my toppings for free basically and the burgers are a LOT juicier and flavorful. 2) The bartender/server never checked to see how our burgers were. It took about 10 minutes of us waiting around for the bartender to ask if we were finished and get our checks. Then another 10 minutes to run our cards. As a matter of fact, the service was horrible. I truly believe the women in Grand Forks can sniff out people who don’t live there and treat us like garbage. Interesting way of doing things when we actually have the money to tip you 20%+ for good service. 3) If the bartender would have actually checked up on us, she would have noticed me picking at my burger to try to eat whatever I could that did not have the crappy blue cheese on it. Even a new bun would have been great and I could have eaten my burger. 4) This place is small. You need to get there before 5 or after 6:30 if you want to sit down and eat.

On food alone, this tiny little bar gets all the stars! The burgers are yummy, meaning so full of flavor they just melt in your mouth. We were seated where we saw the process of how they cook them happens. I was disappointed to see that the burgers seem pre-made, which is why I docked a star above. The large press comes down on multiple meat patties and cooks them like a large foreman grill. Then garnishes are applied, chips are added and the food comes out quickly to you in a basket. Don’t forget to pair your burger with a local brew. Since I am not from this area, I had never heard of any of the beers. The server was somewhat helpful, but I really just randomly picked a few to try. I really can’t even remember which one I liked. This is not a place for a vegetarian or non-beef eater. There are no alternatives, all burgers were beef.
