They were out of ribs when I went but I ordered the chopped brisket and pulled pork instead. I also got the Caesar side salad, baked potato casserole, and the green beans with bacon. That’s an extra side but I wanted to try it all. The meat was good but not enough smoke. It tasted like it was boiled to start then smoked after to shorten cooking time. Being a cook I don’t mind short-cuts like this if the price is ok. It was still good meat and I will be getting it again. The Caesar was tasty but had more croutons than lettuce. I am the kind of guy that thinks that if you order a salad you want a salad. The green beans were good but it was late and they were getting mushy. The baked potato casserole was pretty good but it turned out to just be mashed potatoes with cheese and bacon bits on top. I will be going back but next time I would like to try the ribs and order less food. I ate it all but didn’t need to get so much. I would also try something more traditional like baked beans and coleslaw.

First off, I must confess I had just been to Oklahoma Joe’s in Kansas City within the last 2 weeks so my standards bar was very high! However we thought we would try out the new BBQ place in town. The entire staff was friendly and attentive. The place was very clean. Looked like they cleaned up quickly as patrons left to make room for new ones. I had the brisket with 2 sides — jalapeño beans and coleslaw. The servings were generous. Neither my wife nor I were able to finish our meals. My brisket was a thicker cut, but very juicy… maybe just a bit overdone but we were there late in the day, too. I would have preferred a little more smokey flavor. The bark was good, but the smoke ring didn’t go very deep. I tried their original sauce on the side and dipped. Sauce was OK. I may try the spicy blend next time. The jalapeño beans had a little kick, but not bad. The smell of the jalapenos was stronger than the kick. I ordered the creamy coleslaw to cut the jalapeño if needed, but it wasn’t necessary for me. The coleslaw reminded me of my mom’s home made. I think I need to re-emphasized the attentiveness of the staff. I don’t think anyone passed by our table without making sure we were doing ok and enjoying the meal… and this is an order at the counter place! Full-service restaurants could take lessons! They even brought a complimentary sample of the apple cobbler and said feel free to top with their soft serve ice cream! I will be back and maybe try the ribs next time…
