Moe Fine. Larry Fine. They were two of the Three Stooges, and you should have seen some of the Stooges lining up at the auction of all the junk from this closed liquor store.(It’s hard to run such a place these days – every discount store has a liquor section, and the convenience store across the street sells beer 19 hours a day.) The auction started off outside with things like neon beer signs(perfect if you, say, own a bar or are a twentysomething guy who doesn’t want to get laid – somehow women don’t find these items attractive). Neon beer signs were going upwards of $ 225. There was an old Hamms advertisement that I would have bid a dollar for, and it went for — get this — $ 80! Stooges. An old Jax Brewery plug in light from the 50’s went for about the same, even though it looked like it hardly survived Katrina, what with all the masking tape holding it together. The auctioneers had a little lunch truck so I had a nice lemonade. Didn’t stick around for the afternoon auction of the pathetic selection of liquor inside. What else are you going to do on a Sunday morning in the midwest? [correction: 3 Stooges wuz Moe Howard, Curly Howard, and Larry Fine]
