Best carne Asada tacos ever, and coming from southern cal I’ve had a few! Service with a smile, great food and great prices, you can’t lose!

Pretty damn good. The portion sizes are ridiculously large. I love the chorizo breakfast burrito and chile relleno burrito! It’s fresh and flavorful, even if it is a day and half’s worth of calories.

Awesome breakfast burritos! I recommend the chorizo and egg burrito. It’s a little greasy, but is soooo tasty. Every burrito I have tried has been huge and very good!

I had menudo. If you’ve never had menudo, you are missing one of the most disgustingly awesome things ever. It’s tripe aka beef stomach in a broth with onions, chili peppers, cilantro, and hominy then seasoned with oregano.
It’s fatty and greasy and yummy. Best food for a hangover and this place makes a pretty good one.
My other favorite thing is it served in a styrofoam bowl with plastic utensils so In my own head I can avoid the germs. See, we all have our own brand of crazy.

I’ll be honest, this is one of those places that looks like eating there involves some risk. It’s «divey» but absolutely delicious. So, the reward has (so far) outweighed the risk.
Breakfast, lunch & dinner can all be found on their vast menu of Mexican standards – along with tasty oddities like an Arizona burrito and a Flying Saucer tostada. Anything with pork is especially good – but I love pigs. Eat here & enjoy, then bring some friends and surprise them.

So terrible! Cheese enchilada was soup with no flavor! Guac was so gross and runny!

Holy crap when the employee told me what the bill was for 3 giant mortar round sized burritos, I thought she had added wrong. The food is good, but seasoned for the gringo pallet that dominates this landscape. They’re always open too. Reminds me of a few greasy spoons in Albuquerque and the lot. I’ve battled a raging hangover at 6am on a Sunday morning with one of their burritos and won!

Moved to GJ– was hoping to find a breakfast burrito close to something that can be found in New Mexico and was told to try «Los J’s»
Ordered a Breakfast burrito without meat… it was a good size ($ 5-​a little expensive comparing it to Blakes in New Mexico) when I took a bite of it there was some chunks of UNIDENTIFIABLE meat… I think it was chicken but I really don’t know.
After about 3 bites I tossed it out… what a bummer

Los Jilbertos a 4 star restaurant? I think not. I am a big believer in value, and this place has that… But c’mon, they use the absolute bottom of the barrel ingredients. The cheese is oily weirdness. I have had an upset stomach more than once following a super cheap late night carne asada burrito with salsa Verde poured down it’s throat. No it was not the alcohol, I was working. Side note, do not get into a fight with anyone loitering in the parking lot, they are probably related to the owners and no one will call the police or an ambulance for you, its a family thing.
Want a tip, order half orders of superfries and get the same size as a full order.

Eat here every now and then, great food but some of the profit needs to be put to renovations and repair for the property. Overall it’s a good «restaurant» though

Best breakfast burrito in GJ. I say this with complete confidence because I have tried them everywhere else that offers them!
Prices-​absolutely reasonable, the portions are generous.
Variety-​Two thumbs up! Fresh! Whatever you decide on, it is made-​to-​order, even if you are using the drive-​thru.
Ambience-um…well…it can be a little sketch, true.
SO happy LJ is open 24 hours, you never know when the craving for some amazing tacos will hit!

Excellent carne asada fries. Excellent chicken tacos.
Had a loaded machaca burrito from there and… it was a bit bland. However, they don’t skimp on the food for what you pay… and that’s one of my pet peaves.
Do try if ever stuck in this town! OPEN LATE!

Five stars for the food (I got cheese enchiladas with rice and beans)
Three stars for the cleanliness of the restaurant
One star (or less) for the cleanliness of the bathrooms. There were bloody paper towels on the floor — it looked like a crime scene.

Seriously good! This place will not only will fill you up, leave you with left overs, but make you question how low the price on your receipt is. Their breakfast burrito are Brobdingnagian masses of deliciousness, Your colon may hate you for the shear amount of meat in each burrito — but that does make it any less awesome. Oh and it’s open 24 hours. Definitively a must go.

I really wanted to like this place, and don’t often give low ratings, but I unfortunately have to.
The place is nice and clean, and the service was friendly. They have an extensive menu for both breakfast and otherwise. I was in the mood for a good huevos rancheros (w/​out green chili like they do in Denver). What I got was eggs and pico on top of rice, with beans. Huevos rancheros are named as such because they have rancheros sauce. Without it, the eggs were ok and the pico bland. Perhaps I was spoiled having lived in Texas for almost a decade, but I just can’t call this huevos rancheros.
Was also hoping that because the sign said «Tacos» that they’d have breakfast tacos, but they did not. No points off for that, but a hint for new menu items :)
I’ll give them another shot the next time I’m in town given the high reviews. Perhaps I got the one thing that wasn’t their best.

So I see a single one star review dragging this down so I had to put my 2 cents in… yes John J. its is greasy and drunk is the way of the warrior there, and the person taking your order may not even know a single word of english BUT…
1. Open ²⁴⁄₇. They may do the whole Cinco de Mayo, but they are still open (I think)
2. Pretty cheap
3. Always cooked to order, fresh almost every time (been there hundreds of times and never got cold food)
4. Friendly. its almost like they jumped the boarder to work here!
The cons go as followed:
1. This food MAY upset your stomach but shouldn’t do that to the taste buds. (My fav’s are the Fish Tacos, shrimp or fish burrito, Super fries or nacho’s and the I always ask for the free bag of cut carrots and japaleno’s. Both the red and green salsa are pretty decent too.
2. Crazy-​Ass customers after bar hours. It is common to see some riff-​raff making trouble or someone getting talked to by the cops there. So if you like people watching to the extreme this is fun but if not your cup of tea then get and go before 12am.
3. Again, the food tastes great but it has been known to make you hurt later. This happens for me about every once every 8 – 10 trips. Why go back all the time and rate it 4 stars you ask, well. i love ethnic food, they are CONSISTENT, and bang for the buck you cant go wrong. I would buy and open a Los J’s franchise all over if I had capitol. In-​fact I think I am going to go have a Fish Taco right now (3:36am here)!

*as to the late night people watching, besides Wiener Schnitzel, this is really the only late night place to hang out that feeds you. So, with that in mind, there are usually cops and cabs, and they are there for a reason… Say «Hi» to your local high strung drunk folks who are making their last stop before they pass out or black out. Granted this usually starts about 12:30ish on the weekend and just progressively gets rowdier.
SO, if you want to miss that vibe, just go before hand and give yourself some good self care.

I use to visit this place many times while visiting friends in the area, but they have jacked up their prices big time. I use to get a carne asada super fries for $ 7.50 + tax and now they want $ 8.50 + tax for them!
They are open 24 hours, which is a rarity in Grand Junction for any place, so it is hard to find a descent eatery place at the wee hours of the morning.
It is always a hit and miss with the drive-​thru. Sometimes there can be long lines and sometimes you can be the first up. Go inside and load up on a variety of free salsas!
BEWARE!!! There is a Hispanic worker (skinny guy) that I have ran into twice and he always treats me with disrespect, by talking down to me, not looking me in the eye. I have gotten the feeling that he is very prejudice towards white people; which I have found to be true by confirming with another worker (whom I know) there, who knows this to be true.

Los Jilbertos is as close as you’re going to get to an LA style taco shop burrito in GJ. I eat here or do takeout about once a week. I usually get the chile verde burrito with extra cheese inside (al dentro por favor!) or fish tacos. My informal yet highly scientific survey of two real Mexicans found that 100% (both) consider Los Jilbertos the best restaurant in town. Coming in a close second is the roach coach near the workforce center (that was my Mexican friends’ assessment, not mine, I’ve never eaten there).
The Super Nachos and Super Fries are really good and huge, and the tortas are excellent. The salsas are spot on. The pico de gallo always tastes fresh and the red and green come close to Juanita’s in Pomona CA, my reference standard. My one negative is that I don’t think the salsas are set up properly from a sanitation point of view. When you hold your little container over the bowl and pour into it with the huge dipper, it’s almost impossible to avoid getting some on your fingers which then drips back into the bowl. That can’t be good, but I know where I’m going for lunch today anyway. Oh yeah, I live life on the wild side.
