UPDATE! Major changes to the menu offering the bare minimum of vegan options. My husband and I went recently and we were unaware of the drastic menu change. After we were seated and ordered drinks we looked at the menu and realized we had about 2 options that were vegan. My meal was so bland that I ate roughly 10% of it and couldn’t eat anymore. We expressed our concerns with the menu changes and lack of flavor/quality of the few vegan items they do offer and the server was really understanding and also expressed her disappointment with the menu changes. Overall, this is a bummer because I don’t see us ever going back here to eat. You guys went from being really progressive«food-wise» to a major backslide in options and quality.

My family and I stopped in for our third visit, this time to celebrate Mother’s Day. Our server, Tommy, had great recommendations and was kind throughout the whole dinner. Their garden mac & cheese and jambalaya are both delicious menu favorites! They have a great bar and there is something on the menu for everyone to enjoy. Definitely stop in for a casual, relaxed dinner and a nice summer patio in the middle of Gaslight Village!

3rd time was the charm for this place. We had a much more pleasant experience and even had the manager come over so we could express what a sincere difference it was since the last time! My husband chose the chicken and dumplings while I went with a daily special of MI pork and applesauce. Yum to both! The grilled applesauce had a great taste and complimented the pork chop very well. The chicken though!!! So tasty! Whatever you do to cook that it was juicy and crispy at the same time. We also only had our waitress and the manager stop by instead of 4 – 5 different people. Such a better experience for dinner. Thank you!

I love walking into this restaurant. The open atmosphere and high ceilings are very inviting. The bar area is decorated beautifully and there are outlets and hooks for purses. I’ve had lunch and dinners here with friends and co-workers. The staff seems very eager to find out your likes when drinking beer or wine. I been here several times and have to say I’m very impressed with the food. The menu changes and I’ve tried a lot of different items. Some of my favorites are the quesadillas, tacos, Otto’s chicken, and macaroni and cheese. The quesadillas combine chicken, bacon and cheese with peppers and have an unbelievable taste. The house made ranch is a perfect compliment. The fish tacos are a great choice for a non meat option and they are tasty! Bottom line, is everything I’ve tried is seasoned well! I feel that the prices are on the higher side, but I’m willing to pay more for the quality of food that is served.

My boyfriend and I had a really great experience here on Saturday evening. Great service and really awesome food = a good time. This is a cozy place. Very much a smaller«pub» feel with a bar that seemed to be well stocked. A decent selection of local beer on tap and a cocktail menu. Their onion rings are on point– Brewery Vivant batter. Can’t go wrong there. A few appealing vegetarian options — we had the pesto sandwich wrap and opted for the tempeh and it was seriously delicious! Pesto, goat cheese, tomato and spring greens with some decently marinated tempeh. We’ll be coming back for this *The important and impressive point I’d like to make; both our appetizer and entrees took quite a while coming out of the kitchen. They comped ALL food for us this evening. We hadn’t complained once or had even been bothered by the wait. Really outstanding service. Our server(Jade or Jane?) was great as was the service manager.

A nice place for casual get togethers. The menu has something everyone can enjoy and their drink menu is good too. I’m not much of an alcohol drinker but they offer a «taste» size which is a decent amount for only a few bucks.

We’ve been here twice(july and sept) the first time my friend and I both got the picnic pork plate which consisted of a very small amount of pulled pork which tasted ok but plated with potato salad(good,) and cole slaw that had runny dressing so the whole plate was filled with cole slaw juice. Gave it a second try, my friend had the mac n cheese with p pork which was really good. I had the fish and chips, which looked so delicious, 3 big filets beer batterd and fried nicely, but it was soggy on the inside, so I assume it wasn’t dry when it was battered or it was frozen. The fries were hard little bits of over done shoestring potatoes that had no flavor… a heartier french fry would be nicer, fresh cut fries ideal. Inconsistent in the kitchen, won’t be going back here.

I came here for the first time last night. I didn’t know what to expect, but I had heard a lot of positive things about this establishment. It definitely got my heart. Firstly, I love the ambience of this place. It’s very private feeling(it wasn’t crowded when we went either– so that helped!) I love the location it’s in and being able to go outside after dinner and looking at the Gaslight Village fountains. It just is so very homey, and it’s a great place to talk with friends. The food is absolutely delicious. I enjoyed that they have many meatless options, so I could bring my vegetarian friends! I ate my food so fast that I didn’t even have time to take a picture! My only real gripe was that I wish they had a little bit more variety. I felt a lot of the food had the same flavor palette, and I’m not sure what I would have done as a newcomer if I craved something that wasn’t hearty. Other than the selection, I enjoyed everything including the great service!

On a whim we decided to have lunch at the Derby Station. We were seated immediately outside at our requested table, which is always nice especially when they don’t make you feel like its a huge inconvenience to sit where you’d like vs. where the hostess thinks you need to go. Our server promptly greeted us and told us about the specials of the day, got our drink order and was quickly back with the kids drinks. My husband got a bloody mary and he said it was one of the best he’d had in some time. They have an impressive beer selection and I found a brown ale that was perfect for me. For lunch my husband and I both ordered off the September specials menu and out kids split the kids chicken tenders meal. We also ordered a basket of the house made kettle chips to start with. Everything came out quickly, the chips were delicious, although had I realized my husbands sandwich came with chips I probably would not have ordered them, oops. The kids meal had been split on 2 plates(thank you!) and each plate had 2 average sized chicken fingers and a nice cup of fresh fruit. This works for our family because something about crossing the threshold of a restaurant makes my children lose all will to eat. (they do not get this from me I assure you) My husband’s lamb pastrami sandwich was amazingly good! Nice and hearty with terrific flavor. He consumed the entire thing and had that gazed happy look of a stuffed man. I ordered the Ottos buffalo chicken confit. Consisting of a leg and thigh cooked confit then fried and drizzled with a buffalo sauce. It was ok, the chicken was dry, I think if they had taken it out of the fryer a bit sooner it would have been better, also the pieces were on the smallish side. For $ 6 per piece of chicken I had hoped for more. Still our service was great and the menu looks very promising so I am sure we will return.

Very nice food and drink option in GR. There is an extensive food menu with varying combinations of locally-sourced, gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan food. I just loved my garden grilled mac and cheese(with an original rather than a standard cheddar sauce and lots of veggies). It was a gooey delight. My wife enjoyed her Pad Thai with Michigan-grown shrimp(who knew that there were shrimp farms near Muskegon?). There is a wide variety of drinks, too, including lots of craft beers(expected in Beer City, I guess, but still great). Our server was very affable and helpful. He arranged for us to have a special tasting of miso salad because we were first-time visitors. He spent some time talking to us(actual conversation). I was amazed that there weren’t more people there at about 10:30 p.m. on a Saturday night; if a place this good were in my part of the metro-Detroit area, it would likely be jammed. It’s definitely worth a visit(especially for late night eats).

Had our first experience here last week and it was enjoyable. We sat out on the patio, which was a nice atmosphere. Host and server were good and attentive. Nice menu options, though they were a bit pricey for what you get in my opinion. We split a couple of sandwiches: the Chicken Pesto Wrap and the All Day Brisket Sandwich. Both were incredible. Creative takes on more traditional ideas. The Wrap had goat cheese in it, which makes anything better — let’s be honest. Brisket sandwich had a good slaw on it and just the right amount of BBQ on the brisket which allowed us to still taste the meat. Great craft brew selection. Lots of Michigan brews amongst others. Would definitely go back. In a nice part of town in the Gaslight Village, nice spot for a night out.

I enjoyed the food. The manager came by and said that the menu changes and is seasonal. I like that! The beer list is intense and lots to it. I was impressed that they have a LARGE dinning area. I did not have to wait for a seat on a Friday night at 6pm! I enjoyed that they put Gluten Free available on the same menu that everyone else will get. They also have Vegan options as well. The chips and«spicy» ketchup was a bit odd but other then that I loved my food and my drinks. Parking is a bit crazy and can get crowded.

I went here with a friend last Friday and the food was amazing! We started with the Smoked Blue Cheese Tomato Bacon Bisque and then for our main dishes had the Tim Allen(turkey burger — so flavorful) and the Waygu Steak and Frites(with a runny egg! Always a good thing!). We finished with the crème brûlée cheesecake! They have so many things on the menu that look good, can’t wait to go back and try more!

Parking is somewhat difficult so when a spot opened up as were driving through the village, it was the invite we needed. They offer a large selection of beer and try to feature locally sourced ingredients. Tonite I was in the mood for their gyro. Locally sourced lamb with a jerk rub. Upgraded to the curry slaw. Glad I did as they brought out a small sampling of their housemade chips with Sriacha ketchup for a free starter. The meat was somewhat under seasoned, couldn’t really taste the jerk rub. The slaw was also extremely bitter. We also tried a house burger which was excellent. Could taste what seemed like actual charcoal on the meat. The fries were just as good. Would come back again. Insider tip: a parking garage is around the corner.

Outstanding first experience. Several creative entrée offerings at surprisingly affordable prices. Vibrant atmosphere. No shortage of craft beers on draft. Drunken Brisket gets 4.5 stars. The specialty pork belly sandwich with pickled jalapeño was mouth watering. Chicken Pad Thai was above average. Good marks for service too. A cold steak was quickly remedied. We will be back.

Derby, Derby, Derby… I love you so much, and I want to love you more. Can’t you just pull it all together? We’ve had exceptional food here, and super service, just never at the same time… Kristen was our server at our most recent visit, she was pretty decent. 3 stars. Our food was also, pretty decent, eeeeeeecept our French fries. They were cold and hard… Yuck. We would have told Kristen, but she didn’t ask if we liked our food… The new menus look great, service is improving, the atmosphere is adorable, the commitment to Michigan products is spectacular… We keep coming back, and will continue to do so, because I want so badly for them to get it all right, on the same evening…

Only been here once… and the one time I did it was fantastic! Came here with a large group of friends from work for drinks and dinner, sat outside on the large patio. The place is right on the main drag of ‘The Gaslight Village’(kinda gives me a small town feel.) They have an array of drinks and a big selection of local and non-local craft beer selections… even my favorite… Neapolitan from Saugatuck brewing. Food was great I got the ‘Adult Grilled Cheese’ it had apples on it and few other non common things you’d find on a grilled cheese, but it was possibly the best thing ever. Giving 4 stars because service was very slow and it wasn’t all that busy.

Located in the heart of East Grand Rapids’ charming Gaslight Village, just steps away from Reeds Lake, this pub is a comfortable mix of casual upscale ambiance with a savory selection of beer, wine, and food options. In the summer, their patio is a great way to relax and take in the bustle of the idealistic city street scene. It was hardly summer outside on my recent visit(think 5 degrees and snow gusts), but it was still warm and inviting inside the pub. My husband and I were only looking for drinks on our recent visit so with an English/Irish theme, we figured why not go for Guinness. Although it nothing fancy, it was our old’ standby for beer. I browsed the menu and I will be back for dinner to try some of the amazing farm fresh plates. The service was good and the bar staff was friendly. The place was moderately busy for a Friday night with a few small groups watching the hockey game. I would recommend Derby Station for groups or a date night. I’m not sure what their policy is on kids, but the environment during the normal dinner hour would probably be appropriate for well behaved kids.
