good food and good prices! very fresh tasting. most importantly they had great wait staff! Our waitress was super polite and the food came out in the perfect amount of time. plus, sodas come in a bottle!

This was our 2nd time here, this time on a Saturday around 5 pm. We love their tacos, I really like the carne asada tacos and their verde salsa. The prices are very reasonable, both food and drinks. It was rather cool in the restaurant, not sure if that’s normal or not; the nearby thermostat showed 65 degrees. And the chairs are wood seats, no padded booths or chairs that I could see so for me that gets a bit uncomfortable after a while. But the service has been great on both visits and we love the food. Update: 3rd time here ands service is again very good and the owner/manager Mario is great. Prices are very reasonable.

The drinks were good. The food was so so. I ordered the tacos and it was a bit dry(tortilla) and needed more flavor. My brother ordered the quesadillas and I had a bite that was delicious.

20 Somethings beware! I came here to celebrate taking my nursing boards exam, and I wish I would have went elsewhere. The service my girlfriend and I experienced was some of the worst we’ve ever had in Grand Rapids, and we go out a lot. We wasted about an hour. About ½ hour in we had both hosts apologize and assure us our server was coming, and finally another server brought us drinks and chips. I wouldn’t sweat it if the restaurant was slammed, but that wasn’t the case. We noticed every other table with middle-aged Rockford-looking people was taken care of promptly, so I have to think our experienced was based on the fact my girlfriend and I didn’t look like we came from money(for the record, many of our friends are servers so we tip well). The whole experience put a damper on my celebration, and it really made my girlfriend angry/embarrassed. I would recommend looking elsewhere if you don’t want to look like a chump in front of your date

I was surprised at the lack of flavor in the food here-specifically the tacos(pork, chicken, carne asada, shrimp — we basically tried them all). I guess I expected much more. The margarita flights were cool though and the restaurant is really nice. Service was not great — took about 15 – 20 minutes for the waiter to even come over, granted it was Cinco de Mayo. But the food is the main reason for the 2 stars. Meh.

We had chips and salsa to start, as well guac, Diablo salsa and queso. All so good! The chips are so fresh and so addicting. I loved their classic margarita, the pink was a little too sweet for me, but the classic was great! I had fish tacos and a shrimp taco with a side of pineapple salsa– the pineapple salsa was a must! But the tacos were really really great even without. Great service and five start overall experience. Got in easy with 5 people at 8 on a Friday!

After a mediocre first visit we came back a couple months later with some friends. We made reservations and were promptly brought to our table when we came in. The first thing we noticed were magazines and napkins shoved under table legs to stop table from shaking… We started with some cocktails and the chips and guacamole. The drinks were fantastic and we truly enjoyed them. The chips were nice and crispy and not overly salty. The guacamole was fresh and was overall awesome. The waitress was friendly and told us about all of the specials, of which we did get the lamb tacos which were on special. We also ordered the quinoa salad(3 of us). The quinoa salads were fantastic! Bursting with flavor, light and refreshing. We all loved it. You could get it with your choice of meat, I had the shrimp and it was great. The tacos however were not great. They were just as bad as the first time I came here. No matter what filling you order, the shells are so flavorless that you can’t enjoy them. We told the waitress our thoughts just to be nice so she could tell the chef and she took them off of our bill(we did not ask for this, but it was a good touch). We ended up hanging out after paying the bill for another hour or so and in this time we were pretty ignored, not even an offer to refill our drinks or water. Overall better experience than last time, but still a lot to work on.

Really enjoyed a light dinner here with a couple of gal pals! Paloma. Yum! I could drink enough of these to get myself into trouble, but I exercised self-control and kept it to two. One friend ordered the margarita flight and particularly enjoyed the spicy margarita. My other friend ordered the special drink, something with ginger I wanna say, but I’m not sure. She liked it. The cocktail and drink prices are reasonable, compared to many other establishments in town. As any good Latin restaurant should, they offer a few Mexican beers. They also have my personal fave, Founders All Day IPA, so I’ll always be happy there. I think they had a couple other Michigan beers too… Shorts & Vivant. We snacked on the salsa flight and added guac. It was perfect for munching and talking. I liked the simple presentation on half-sheet trays. For entrees, we all had versions of the tacos. No complaints. Our server was charming and very attentive. We would definitely go back here again. Luna is in the space where Ritz Koney used to be, right on the heart of Ionia, behind the VanAndel Arena. Great place to grab a drink or a snack before or after a game or concert.

Chill place to go with friends while in the downtown area. Love the shrimp and carne asada taco. Great margaritas!

Solid entrée options, reasonable price point, and cozy ambiance, however, chips are inconsistent, and service was just okay. The crown jewels of Ionia Street are Stella’s and Hopcat(at least for me), with Luna falling in the middle of the pack. It’s a solid option, especially for Mexican food, and a few tweaks in service could put it into my top three restaurant choices for Ionia St. Our second time visiting Luna was for dinner this past weekend. As before, we found the restaurant(formally Ritz Coney) busy and thankfully our friends had already secured a table for us when we walked in. My friends said that we were granted the table under strict orders that we were to be finished with our meal by 7:30 because the table was needed for a reservation. Maybe it was just drilled into me when from back when I was a host, but I remember that our job was to welcome people, and assure them that they will enjoy their meal. Not to put them under the clock to finish. It left a sour taste in my mouth, but in an effort to speed our departure, we quickly ordered two nachos and guac orders and drinks. Having had the guac before, I assured my out of town friends visiting for the weekend that it was a good choice. What came out wasn’t what I had before. Embarrassed by the soggy yet hard chips that littered the pan, we picked thru to find chips that were not drenched in whatever type of oil these had been sitting in. That said, once a good chip was found, we all agreed that the guac and salsa were good. My husband and I ordered meals: his meal was two tacos, and mine was the quinoa chicken salad(no feta). Our friends passed on meals and stayed with their drinks as they had eaten earlier that afternoon and were still full. Our meals came out quickly enough. The server must have saw my expression upon seeing a pile of cheese on top of my plate, because said, «Oh yeah, you didn’t want cheese. I can have them make it again». Now I HATE sending food back, mostly because from my previous restaurant experience I know what a pain it is to remake something. Or in this case, they would likely just scape off the cheese shavings on top, which is still annoying when the kitchen is busy. Still, she insisted she would take the cheese topping off, and swiftly returned with a cleaned up plate. My meal was large in size, spicier than I anticipated, and the chicken, positioned on the side, was moist and fresh. My husband enjoyed his tacos saying they were the perfect size for a lighter dinner. My friends liked their drinks and we all appreciated the happy hour prices. Given the mandate to finish up by the set time, we decided to pass on ordering another round, and headed elsewhere for drinks. As for my comment about service levels being just okay, here’s what I mean: As I said earlier, we were clearly told that our table was needed for a reservation and we were to be done by a set time. While I understand that it’s a difficult balance to juggle reservations with walk-in’s, giving customers a time limit for their meal seemed tacky. Also, when I was walking in, I almost barreled into a hostess on the front steps that was on the phone. In hearing her side of the conversation, she was explaining to a customer that the phone service in the resturant is spotty and they have to go outside(which I would image is just as noisy) to take reservations. I felt bad for both the host that she had to stand outside to do this and the customer would may have been having a difficult time making the reservation. Also, our server seemed knowledgeable enough, but hurried. I appreciated that she offered to remove the cheese topping from my plate but it may have been avoided if there was just a double check of each plate before running it out.

Hands-down the worst service I have received in Grand Rapids. I went to Luna for the first time last night with a small group of 3 around 8:15PM. We were told there was an hour wait. With it being«national margarita day», our group was expecting a wait and was willing to be patient. So in the meantime we gave our number and grabbed a drink next door. After an hour had passed we received a text that our table was ready. When we got back to the restaurant, the after work and dinner crowd had wrapped up and there were quite a few open tables. Once seated, another 15 minutes went by and we had yet to be waited on. A member of our group tracked down the hostess to let her know. Finally, a server came and took our drink and food order. Another 20 minutes pass and still no drinks or appetizers(3 classic margaritas, quac and queso… Nothing too complex). Then out comes our food. I asked the staff member to notify our server that we still did not receive our drinks or appetizers. About 10 minutes after that she came back to our table with the drink order and then our appetizer shortly after. The server was not apologetic and seemed almost oblivious to what went wrong. It was getting late(10PM) and we wrapped up eating pretty quickly. Once finished, we once again had to track down our server to bring out our bill. Very disappointing overall.

Cute little restaurant downtown the chips & salsa flight was nice but the chips were a bit greasy the salsa was yummy. I had fish tacos which were good but a bit overpriced for your portion you get a tiny scoop of rice.

Husband and I visited again for their Valentine’s Day brunch. So. Tasty. The huevos rancheros were amazing and with a side of their breakfast potatoes, was such a nice breakfast. I can’t remember the name of my drink since it was a special Vday menu. They definitely do not skimp on the alcohol there though. Both of us enjoyed our drinks too. Nice mix of people from couples to families with little kids. The restaurant seemed really accomidating and was also quite busy for the event. Previous reviewers think the portion size vs. price is too steep. I couldn’t disagree more. This is not a chain restaurant. You won’t be getting heaping portions and the location plays a part as well. I’ve always been full when I leave, just not miserable. That said, the prices don’t bother me at all for good food.

Still not that impressed with the tacos at Luna. Last time I visited, I tried the chorizo(which was not listed on the menu, a friend told me about it) and the lamb tacos. The chorizo was the best, but that’s really only because chorizo is already a flavorful meat. The lamb was not seasoned very well and was really bland. Donkey’s lamb taco is much better. My boyfriend got the shrimp taco which had 2 shrimp on it and they were way overcooked and tough. It’s such a bummer because Luna is in a great location, has a great vibe and I feel that I would really like it if only the quality of the food was better. The presentation of the food is great, though. Everything looks awesome, I just wish it tasted better. I also had the para todo mal drink which was not good. The smokey flavor of mezcal didn’t go well with the hibiscus flavor at all. Unfortunately I don’t think I will be back again. Donkey is just so much better, in my opinion.

I came here alone last week, sort of on a whim, as I’d heard a lot about it from friends(a lot of mixed reviews, to say the least). It was super busy that evening, so I took a spot at the bar, so I didn’t have to wait for a table. I was promptly given drink and food menus, and bartender more or less acted as my waitress, and she was very attentive and helpful, in spite of all the commotion. Even though I don’t rate on service, I was super impressed with Luna’s service team, as I was acutely observing the on-goings there, since I had no one to talk to. I’d heard and read a lot of positive things about Luna’s drinks prior, so I initially ordered the Paloma(a popular Mexican tequila-grapefruit margarita) and it was perfect! So perfect [and reasonably priced] that I ordered a second one to have with my meal. I wasn’t extremely hungry, so I just ordered the huitlacoche quesadillas dish. For those who aren’t familiar, huitlacoche is the black smut that grows on corn, and is a delicacy in many regions of Mexico. If I remember correctly, it was labelled«Mexican truffle» on their menu, as to sound less off-putting. I’ve known about huitlacoche for a long time, but I’d never had the opportunity to try it until my visit here, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was very savory and delicious, and was complimented very nicely by their aioli sauce. The pico and guacamole garnishes were very tasty too. I was pretty impressed with Luna, and would definitely recommend trying it out and I recommend trying out their huitlacoche(if you’re an adventurous type). And you can’t beat their awesome prices!(especially considering how cool and trendy their décor and menu are). Being a new business, I really hope it gets established and can stick around for a while, as I’m excited to see how it changes and develops in the coming months. I will definitely return soon.

Their cocktails are great! Strong, well crafted and refreshing. Everything else was a bit disappointing highlighted by some very slow service. After arriving on a busy Friday night and being told the wait time for a table was around thirty minutes we decided to grab a drink at the bar. Both of us opted for classic margaritas. After a few minutes a table opened up and we were seated in the dining area. Fifteen minutes later our server finally appeared. We ordered the chicken pinchos(chicken skewers) as an appetizer and a few of their tacos to sample. Ingredients appeared to be of quality origin, but the tacos and chicken skewers possessed little distinctive flavor or character. The chips, salsa and guacamole that accompanied our meal were all very good. Service continued to be slow throughout our experience, though our waiter was friendly and very personable. I’d return, especially for their signature cocktails but I have to say I prefer the pace and flavor of Donkey Taqueria based on this first visit to Luna.

Luna is a solid option if you want a great drink in the buzzing downtown Grand Rapids. There’s plenty of seating both at the bar and on the floor. My wife, sister, and I ordered a drink and the guacamole. The chips were amazing but the guacamole just okay. But the drinks may be the best we’ve had in GR. If you like sweet drinks, order their seasonal Adele. Somehow they put cranberry sauce in it and it was amazing. My sister and wife order their two Old Fashioneds and loved it!

The inside of Luna is really nice, old school with brick… like many places in GR it sticks to the historical building style. The foods were excellent. We had the chips and salsa sampler which was awesome! The chips are definitely in house made and so yummy! My husband had the carne asada tacos and I had the chicken tamales. Very good… I would have liked them to be bigger though as they were tasty!

I was very excited to try a new place downtown. As I walked in I look at the tap handles and I was excited because they had some good offerings. My wife and I decided to get some tacos, but both of our fist choices were unavailable as they had ran out. It wasn’t that far in to lunch and the place was pretty empty, kinda disappointing. I ended up getting a fish and a chicken taco, while the wife got chicken and yucca taco. The plate presentation looked amazing, they tasted a tad flat though. It game with a side of black beans that were tasty, just kinda soupy. All in all, it wasn’t all I hoped for, but not bad. I’ll go back in a few months after they get their legs under them.
