Went here over the holidays(either a day or two after Christmas) with some old friends. One of my friends is a big fan of Italian food, so whenever we’re in town, we always try to go someplace to get some pasta. The service was really great. We had a terrific server. She was extremely helpful and cheerful, and made some excellent recommendations. They had a great selection of local beers on tap, and several varieties of wine. The food though… some of the best Italian I’ve had in a long time. The bread was delicious, the calamari was outstanding, and the entrees tasted homemade. The best dish that any of us had, however, wasn’t the pasta, but the filet. It was probably one of the best steaks I’ve ever tried anywhere, and was at a far more affordable price than the same cut would have been at a steakhouse. That being said, all four of us ordered different dishes, and whether it was the filet or the ravioli, they all were really great. If you’re around Grand Rapids, even if you’re out in the ‘burbs, this place is definitely worth checking out.

Awesome, fresh, local Italian food. Service was excellent; our waiter was super helpful and upbeat. Prices are a bit high, but the portion size makes up for the higher cost. Personally had the spicy spaghetti and meatballs and it was divine.

This is definitely a place for a special occasion, as the prices are a bit steep, but the food here is incredibly rich, authentic, delicious, and well-presented. A big step up from your average sloppy American-style Italian restaurant/pizza joint. Relaxing, urbane, and chic ambience and especially outstanding, informative and helpful service. Their dishes tend to be smaller, refined, and flavorful, yet still very satisfying, as fine Italian food should be. This is a fantastic place to take a hungry date, just be prepared for the large bill.

Food has been consistently very good. Creative weekly menu items based on freshest seasonal foods. The chef does wonderful things with fish and the ravioli a are never disappointing. Neighborhood favorite. I think it suffers from past changes in chefs and themes but they have really settled in to a groove. Deserves a bigger clientele.

Went to Trattoria di’Stagione in August after purchasing a Groupon. This was our first visit and it was wonderful. We had reservations for Saturday evening and Richard was our host and server. His knowledge of the menu was incredible and he was very welcoming. We were open to his menu suggestions and tried a variety of dishes — appetizers, salads, and entrees. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. It was an A+ experience!

Our first time there, we liked the atmosphere. Server was upbeat and helpful. My Eggplant Parm was very lightly breaded and crisp with zesty, fresh tomato sauce and layered with goat cheese filling with Parmesan shavings. Delicious. However, friend’s Veal was a sacrilege. Veal very heavily breaded and fried dark brown. Poor little slice of Veal was lost completely, especially when it was topped with too many capers and became nothing but a salty taste. A crime. Kill a calf… charge a lot, then lose it completely in browned coating and salt! The few cubes of bread on a plate were dry and tasteless. No EVOO offered. We did order a dessert. When I went to find server after 15+ minutes, I was told it was being made fresh. Couldn’t wait. Probably wouldn’t go back.

We celebrated my birthday here and we’re really pleased. It was lovely atmosphere, excellent service and fabulous food. We had bruschetta and antipasto for appetizers and both were excellent. I had the spiced spaghetti which was not really spicy but definitely delicious. I tried my husband’s eggplant parmesan and it was some of the best I’ve tried. We are here from out of town and so glad we dined here.

This place is superb! My meal was fantastic! We had wondeful experience! My waiter was great only thing I gave 4 stars because my waiter had cigarette odor. Which was little turn off.

I don’t really eat at Italian, i have no major complaints as far as the food goes, but i just cannot handle that price for italian food. I know everyone can make spaghetti, but i can cook some decent italian dishes and i just cant bring myself to pay so dang much for it. that being said, if you know what youre getting into and this is what you’re looking for it was really good, just way to much money imho.

We had a wonderful dining experience. Took a chance based on Unilocal reviews and were extremely pleased with the food and service. Richard was an excellent server! Make sure and try the gnocchi!

Still a great place for dinner. The service remains good and the food is still excellent! I have not noticed any decrease in quality since Dan Chudik’s exit(but there’s no longer a portly, old dude ambling around and schmoozing random tables of ladies…) The meatballs agrodolce are still awesome. Spicy/sweet goodness! The house-made ravioli is always excellent The grilled filet of beef is a solid choice, but lately I have been getting the catch of the day. I never thought I would crave fish so much, but the last one I got was Opah — tender, steak-like and delicious! I continue to highly recommend this place!

We went on Tuesday night. The staff was professional, fun, and kind. The Chicken Alla Matone was amazing! Brick chicken with an amazing polenta and roasted vegetables that tasted like they had just been picked from the garden. We also order the bread pudding and the Chai cheesecake. Both were fantastic! I can’t wait to go back and I haven’t been able to to shut my mouth about this new found Gem in GR!

First and foremost the service was excellent I wish I could remember our servers name because he was extremely informative and completely on top of his game. We ordered two appetizers the calamari and the polenta both were excellent. For dinner my wife had the spicy spaghetti, and I had the House-Made Cavatelli. I wife loved the spaghetti and I thought the cavatelli was absolutely phenomenal. The cocktails I ordered were also very good as well as the wine pairings that our server suggested. This is now my favorite Italian restaurant. Those that don’t enjoy the food here are the same people that don’t enjoy anything in life.

Expensive, not typical Italian food. Good service but the food doesn’t worth the high price

In visiting Grand Rapids for the first time, some friends and I were recommended this place after driving from Cleveland to play at Billy’s Lounge later that evening and this was nearby. Loved the Décor and the relaxed atmosphere with Jazz selections playing in the background. Our server Richard was very attentive and gave a breakdown on everything on the menu and the specialty of the day and service was fantastic! From the Calamari, to the Polenta to all of the entrees which consisted of Penne Pasta, Ravioli, Gnocchi, and Halibut all amazing! Wine selection was stellar and the dessert was oh so tempting but it was such a start to a fantastic evening! Next time I’m back in town, I’ll be sure to come back and anyone that I know talks about visiting Grand Rapids, I’ll know where to sent them!

With more pros than cons, I really enjoyed my visit here! Pros: 1. Committed to authentic Italian food. What stood out to me the most is how committed to natural Italian flavor they are. The server explained that some of our entrees would look and even taste a little different than what we may expect; however, was only because the chef is committed to using less cream and cheese then the typical Italian restaurant uses. It impressed me that the restaurant was willing to challenge customer’s perception of certain foods in order to provide something they were proud of. 2. Boiled calamari. Sounds simple enough but most places I go in Grand Rapids only offer fried calamari. I loved the lighter taste and natural colors. 3. Manageable portion sizes. Again, most people are used to massive portions when it comes to Italian restaurants(me included). My cheese ravioli plate left me satisfied but not grotesquely stuffed. I didn’t feel guilty for overeating here. 4. Knowledgeable staff. My friend had a few dietary concerns and our server answered all of her questions. Our server offered solutions to make an entrée work without altering the flavor of the dish too much. 5. Not busy. We came in prior to the winter Shop Hop through the UpTown area. Surprisingly, we didn’t have any issue getting a 5pm table and it seemed relatively quiet for our entire meal. Cons: 1.Limited parking on the side of the building. There are only a few spots located on the side street; otherwise, you have to find a spot on your own. Just don’t mistake I made and go in thru the door right by the parking lot. That’s the door to the restaurant next to Trattoria de’ Stagione. I felt like a cad walking through the wrong restaurant to get to the right one. Make sure you enter through the correct door on Wealthy St.

Food is ok, but left with a bad taste in our mouths. We were there with 15 friends for my wife’s birthday. Drinks, appetizers, entrées for everyone… Then I asked our waiter if he could bring out something special for my wife’s birthday. He did. And he charged us for it. We spent $ 400 at our table and they still had to charge us $ 7 for cake? What is this, Russ’s? Our waiter said that’s the policy.

We’ve been here 3 – 4 times now and so far, the chef here has not once gone wrong on the food.(How many restaurants in GR can you say that about?) Plenty of fresh garlic especially in the Romaine and Watercress Salad, which I love. Solid italian fare — fresh ingredients — fish brought in from Chicago. Despite a couple of logistical glitches, we’ve been pretty happy here. BTW: some of you will remember the chef Dan Chudik from Tuscan Express.
