I usually go flying by this place… excuse me… drive by this place like all law abiding drivers at the 45 mile speed limit… umm yeah. Either way I usually miss out on the opportunity to stop at the bookstore portion of this interesting location. After a $ 40 diet Pepsi at Spirit Mountain Casino… well that’s how much I lost while drinking one, we continued our leisurely trip to the coast, then made a random unplanned stop at Jim’s Trading Post. The Bookstore is tucked closely to the highway, in a cluster of broken down vehicles and a hardware store that contains a lot of used and salvage items etc. The hardware area was closed on this day and the books were what I was there for anyways, so I stumbled on in. The shop is larger than most independent used book stores, with a fair amount of books. There is a large audio book area, a few new books, magazines, and lots of books on many other subjects. The place is a little unorganized. The categories are all there and marked, but the shelf order is… well out of order, and very dusty. Sort of a shelf it and leave it place. The Bookstore is old and pretty run down, heated with a wood stove, however there are some real classic finds here. The place has obviously been here for a long time. I remember it being here when I was a kid driving by, so there are some fine selections of older novels, a very good selection of biography and history books as well. The store has a good balance of paperbacks and hardbacks which are segregated nicely. I found a few wonderful classics I had been looking for and I have to say the prices were very fair. Way below the the bigger used stores and right in line with my favorite family owned locations. The service was wonderful. The lady that help us was polite and friendly and a pleasure to meet. All and all, a great place to stop and look for hidden treasures, audio books, a few movies, and some other odds and ends. Quite a few kids books also. I love used bookstore, and this one is no exception again. My only reasons for three star is the shape of the business. The dust and stacks of unorganized books, and the general untidiness and lack of upkeep that takes away from the experience. Doesn’t need to be a bookstore in a mansion, but clean and organized would make a world of difference in how much money I could spend here. I think I probably missed out on some treasures that were just too hidden. I will be stopping here more regularly now on my trips to hunt out some special finds for my reading enjoyment. Book lovers shouldn’t pass this one up for a try.
