Jin’s Tailoring and Alterations

I’ve gone to Jin once so far. I needed pants hemmed and I needed a full blown suit alteration, and it all came to under $ 90 which I thought was very reasonable. The lady working the counter was super sweet and Jin was funny. She is a unique individual that may come off a little cold but I think she was sweet in her own way. I think the quality of work was good, I got compliments on the fit. Jin calls a spade a spade so don’t ask for her opinion if you aren’t prepared for the truthful answer. I will update my review as I continue to give Jin business.

Seriously the Asian lady was as rude as ever. DONT COME HERE. $ 30 to re-​hem my suit coat with a week wait? Couldn’t understand a thing she was saying. Just a overall bad experience.

I recently had a tuxedo altered by Jin and she was very professional and did an excellent job. This was a tux that I had made for me, but it never really fit right. I brought it in and she was able to bring in the jacket and the pants. She even went above and beyond and made some alterations to the bottom of the pants because after she made her initial changes she realized they wouldn’t look how I told her I wanted them to.
Jin is fast, very reasonably priced and really good at what she does.

I’ve read mixed reviews about Jin’s but my experience was very good. I had a bridesmaid’s dress altered, Jin told me up front that it would be a bit more pricey because of the pleating. I returned to pick up my dress at the scheduled date and it was ready to go and fit great. I’ve read reviews where some people claim that she is «rude» but I found her to be very friendly. She knows her business and gets to the point. Perhaps she is misunderstood because she is foreign. All in all, I had a very good first experience.

I could not be happier with my experience at Jin’s. I got a suit jacket taken in, a vest taken in, and my pants hemmed for much less than I expected to pay. The suit looks great, and I was very happy that she was able to do it on such short notice (I took it in on a Monday and had it back on Friday). Highly recommend this business, and I will be going back with any other tailoring needs I have!

It’s been a while since I Unilocaled! Anyway let’s get to it.
I’m a denim snob, thus my love for True Religion has me constantly at the tailor’s getting the hem shortened for my 5’10 frame. I found this place (thanks to Unilocal) and read the mixed reviews. I was a little hesitant.
It was easy to find and I was given prompt attention. I could understand very little that she was saying, but figured she knew what she was doing. I was given my receipt for $ 44 for 3 pairs of jeans, 2 of them a normal hem and 1 of them a tricky hem due to the twisted seam that True Religion is known for. I was told to come back in a week. (really, a whole week???)
Mind you I have had many jeans hemmed as quickly as the same day, but 3 days or so is reasonable, 1 week felt like infinity. Not to mention, I’m used to paying $ 12 or so for a hem, but being new to Columbus It was the cheapest I could find.
I went in today to get my jeans, happy as a clam. The hem quality was perfect, just as expected. I got sticker shock though when she told me the total was $ 71. A stark contrast to the receipt I had of $ 44. I tried to politely argue my statement of being mislead, then she began to talk quickly in her native language mixed with her heavily accented English. I gave up and surrendered the credit card, cringing at the fact of being swindled by someone half my height.
The 2 star rating is based on that fact alone. My order paper/​receipt clearly says «tricky hem $ 44», being charged an extra $ 27 for something relatively simple seems outrageous, she could have called and explained to me the extra charge before going ahead and doing it. I won’t be returning based on this fact alone. Word to the wise, if you want jeans hemmed take them to Nordstrom’s, they typically will hem any jeans you bring there as long as the brand is sold there, for FREE!

Yes it’s hard to understand the owner and yes she can come off a little bossy (if you think for a second about these things called cultural differences it will make sense to you) but just be patient and you’ll get good service without being irritated. Make sure to bring your own shoes with you, especially if you are having pants, jeans, or a floor length dress altered. Pay the extra $$$ to have the original hem put back on, otherwise your jeans will look like crap. I had a pair of Seven For All Mankind jeans altered here (so yes, your designer denim is in good hands) as well as a shift dress taken in a long the sides from my bust to the bottom of the dress. Jeans ended up still being a smidge longer than I wanted (that was my fault for not bringing a pair of 4 inch heels w/​me) and the dress fits me like a glove. I believe I paid somewhere around $ 48 to have these 2 items altered, but definitely worth it in my opinion. Turn around time was one week.

I have taken lots of pants for hemming there. Jin does a great job and it gets done quickly. My mom and sister had their dresses taken in there for my wedding. You will wait longer for special pieces to be done but it is worth it. Alway reliable.

I go here for all my tailoring. Jeans to dresses Jin is great and I love her zesty personality. Bring cash and your bill is cheaper… no tax. They do great work for fair prices. You get get what you pay for.

I took the skirt out of town for the wedding and found 3 pen marks on the outside where they let their wild hands go crazy. Thank god they didn’t go crazy with the scissors, right?
They are nice women, but wtf? Shout did not get that out! Happy it was was a darker fabric so you couldn’t tell from far away.

I had my wedding dress and my reception dress altered by Jin. I didn’t have a lot of time before the wedding for the alterations, but she made sure to get it finished with time to spare, which was key because she had to alter it further. She made the second (and difficult) alteration within one day, since I was running out of time.
I will definitely return for any other alterations. I can’t compare the price, since they were specialy dresses, they would have been expensive anywhere. From talking to other, the prices were pretty good for wedding alterations.

I have taken 2 tank tops and a skirt to be taken in and just dropped off a strapless dress. I don’t know enough about tailoring to say that they are on the cheap side ($ 45 to have a lined silk strapless dress taken in in the bust), but I do know that I have been happy so far with what I’ve gotten. Plus they are always swamped so they must have some pleased people. Plus, you really want them to get it right on the first try so I’m willing to pay a little more for quality work.

I am becoming somewhat of a tailoring and alterations enthusiast of late… This is my second visit to a seamstress in less than 2 weeks and I decided to try a different one to compare. Jin’s prices are significantly less than Anna’s (previous review) though she takes a few days longer. So if you aren’t in a hurry and want to save a few bucks, go see Jin. It is located right in the heart of Grandview– right across the street from the library– so it is a bit more convenient if you live in this area.
