These guys just opened the day before, but they were nicely stocked and ready for business. We were on a ride up the Loop when we felt a bit parched, so we decided to stop. First of all, the view from the store is amazing — mountains and trees everywhere. If you need to use the phone, they have a pay phone outside, which is good because there is no cell service on the highway. Walking into the store, you can see a super cool lunch counter, which isn’t in use, as they don’t have a restaurant yet But, there is tremendous potential there. I love the seating area with the loveseat next to the firewood. It smells amazing, and is just so cozy! We went into the store part, which is so lovely — beautiful wood throughout and so spacious. They had everything one could possibly need for camping, including firewood. They also had a decent selection of drinks and snacks. I know as they get further into running mode, they’ll get more, and I cannot wait! But, more than anything else, I was impressed by the owners, as they were warm, friendly and super welcoming. I plan to stop there every time I’m on The Loop, and you should, too!

Stopped at the store on the way to an over-nighter at Bear Lake. Their firewood is excellent. They have a nice selection of all you might need for your day in the woods. I call this store several times a year, and they are always happy to give me road updates, and trail reports if they have heard anything.

I usually pass this store after I’ve already stocked up the truck for a trip to the cabin or before they open on my return home to the city. I’ve passed this store hundreds of times without a need to stop over the last 10 years or so. I was dragging my hung over feet this morning and stopped in at 7:05am for a coffee. You know a place is good when it is filled with all the local old men. They were all chatting around a table to the back of the store. A short line had formed behind the coffee machine. A friendly woman making espresso greeted me with a good morning and asked if I needed any help. I couldn’t resist the self serve biscuits and gravy and she helped me thru the process showing me where the biscuits were located. The coffee was great, the old store feel was welcoming and the biscuits and gravy weren’t as good as grandma’s, but the best I’d had in a long while. Think I will have to stop here more often in the future.

Going up or coming down the Mt. Loop Highway, stop at Green Gables. Not only can you get camp cooking essentials, but they have awesome pulled pork sandwiches. You can also grab an espresso, especially if you are coming down after days without that morning latte! This is the only commercial establishment on the Mt. Loop between Robe and Darrington.
