As the designated driver, I did not drink the wine. BUT, I did eat the burger. Wow. Best I have had in a long time. Real meat, heirloom tomato, great hand made fries and the setting, perfect. All the staff are cheerful and knowledgeable and ready to help. I have since sent many people to enjoy this winery and all have come back raving. Some bought cases of wine, others, a few bottles. All raved about the food. This is my new go to place for visitors.

Beautiful place and good food. Can’t beat the setting and seating area outside. The meat and cheese platter hit the spot.

What is NOT to love about this beautiful location? Accessible, dog and family friendly, you can bring your own food(or not), and tour the grounds… of course you might just want to enjoy the wine! Sit inside by the fire and sip some awesome Viognier with a cheese plate or outside by the fire with some yummy Pinot Noir. Some really fun wines here– Become a member and enjoy free tasting and wine release events!

We loved this winery. The grounds are epic and it’s a great place to hang out and just relax. The wine was good, not great sadly. We did find a few bottles we liked and ending up ordering some pizzas to enjoy with the wine. The food here in my opinion trumps the wine and makes it a fun hangout. The food, the grounds, and the wine selection make this a winery to not be missed when in Grants Pass area.

I attended a barrel tasting with eight of my childhood friends and we were treated so wonderfully. Mel educated us on so many pieces of the wine making process and she was a delight to spend our afternoon with. We decided to stay for lunch afterward and the love just kept coming. They set up a lovely table for us on the patio and served us a delicious lunch. Their Tempranio was my favorite. They are a boutique winery and it’s so worth the money. Mel really did make experience an A+. Good luck to her on her adventures and I am looking forward to visiting again. Beautiful grounds, great food and wine, and an unforgettable experience.

Arrived just after 5pm on a Saturday. We were turned away by a very rude woman who informed us they closed at 5pm and then told us we should have seen the(TINY) sign at the front entrance. Won’t waste my time again with this place.

It had been a couple of years since I was out at Schmidt, and was impressed at the gorgeous landscaping they’d done! Our service was friendly and the patio was delightful. The wines were good, though not the finest I’ve had in the rogue valley. Myself & two friends did the«garden flight» which had generous pours and nice presentation. The cheese & fruit plate needed some utensils & napkins, but this was really a beautiful experience and perfect place to relax in a stunning setting with a casual vibe.

This is a gorgeous place with wonderful photo ops. It looks like a beautiful lodge and has a gorgeous outdoors. The only reason why I gave it one less star is because when our party of 4 arrived, the service was focused on another party for close to 20 minutes. We had ordered our tastings and she didn’t even start and we were waiting outside while she was chatting it up. I will say that the bathroom was extremely clean. The tastings include a little bit of dark chocolate, oyster crackers, and complementary water/iced tea. I like how the tastings were in little test tube displays with a separate strip of paper of the description. We also ordered the Blue Hawaiian pizza was delicious and also the combo pizza which was also delicious. :)

The grounds here are so amazing. They are very beautiful landscaping, even a pond, lake on your drive in, so adorable. We saved this place for our last winery because I read online they had a chef there on certain days and times. We showed up 45 mins before the end of the lunch time. We let them know we would like to have lunch and do a tasting. We did our tasting and when we were done we said we would like to order food as well. We were informed that the chef was sent home early. There was a table in there enjoy some wine and cheese and she told us she scrounged up something for them to eat earlier but there was nothing left :(. What we looking forward to this all day! I was so excited to have a meal prepared for us by a chef at a winery. We were so let down. not to mention starving. We had to drive about 15 mins to a location that had food and they were all closed too! We gave up and just went back to Grants Pass and ate there. The wines were good and the location is beautiful but we were let down by the chef being sent home early. Boo!!!

Disappointed at Schmidt Family Winery!!! We arrived on a Saturday not knowing that they had an event planned for later that day. We ordered two pizzas and a tasting flight to enjoy on the patio. As more and more people arrived, it appeared the winery was not properly prepared or staffed. After waiting 45 min, we stopped a worker to ask where our. Order was, since we saw a table get their pizza though they arrived after us. We were assured by one worker thar he would check On our order, but he never return. Another 15 minutes passed and we stopped another employee possible owner or wine maker and asked about our order. Wow finally someone stops to check on us! She also said she would check on the order for us. She came by another 20 min and she said oh you still haven’t gotten your food? I will check on it. Did you bother to check on it last time? Another 10 min went by she had not returned. By now at least 5 other tables arriving after us, had received their food. How can this be? We had tried to be so patient as we could see they were getting busier. We could wait no more so we went to check on the order ourselves. It appeared that no one ever bothered to check on our order like they promised ! We had waited 1 ½ hours to learn that they had not even started our two pizzas yet! What horrible service ! The place is beautiful, for that I give them one star. I hope to never return, I would rather drink cheap wine and eat a frozen pizza and I hate both of those !

My son’s wedding rehearsal was here. From start to finish it was a spectacular experience! Jocelyn, the event planner, was on top of it every step of the way. From the food tasting, wine tasting, to fruition. Just perfect! I am in the tourism industry and an event planner… exceptional! The food, the incredible wines, amazing ambience and the service … Perfect! Thank you Cal and Judy! You made our weekend!

Out of all of the Applegate wineries I visited a while ago, this one was NOT impressive. The staff was distracted, venti iced Starbucks drinks littering the counters and they were constantly on their phones. Customer service was clearly not their first priority. The wines were so-so. Beautiful tasting room, with wonderful, spacious grounds… but if you’re looking for an intimate, truly memorable, and delicious tasting experience, there are many other wineries to check out.

May I just present my bona fides. I am a National Beer Judge and ex-brewer with 4 medals from The Great American Beer Festival. I have seen most of Europe and enjoyed wines of many types. «STYLE» is a potent word for me. Almost all great wines adhere to a style which, over the years, has proven agreeable to folks who drink them. Thus, an Italian Pinot Grigio is bracing, acidic, low in forward fruit, and dry. Many American winemakers turn out what they call a PInot Grigio or Pinot Gris but these tend to be fruity and off-dry – pleasant as some may be, they violate style. Cal Schmidt and company apply rigorous stylistic protocols to their white wines and you get a true Pinot Grigio, a true Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and a lovely Rousanne.: everyone one true to the style which made it time-worthy. Add to this a very pleasant staff and locale … does not get any better.

We went to Schmidt Family Vineyards after tasting their gold medal best of show wine at the Wine Festival. The winery itself is beautiful, with two tasting rooms that are elegantly decorated and comfortably furnished. All of their wines we have tasted have been delicious and full-flavored, not your average winery. We enjoyed them so much, we joined their wine and foodies club. Our second visit was to the wine release. Not only did we taste the wines, but they had some really delicious food to go with it. There were the usual hors d’ouvres of cheese, olives, dips and fruit. The Albarino(gold medal winner) pairing was an amazing honey-lime gazpacho(the recipes are posted on their website after the events). Temperanillo(gold medal/best of show winner) was paired with a beef skewer, buttermilk dressing and fantastic polenta. The final pairing, their Syrah(silver medal winner) and chocolate bread pudding, was absolutely to die for. There were also several other wines to try. We left with our three bottles plus a few extras, feeling sated and well pleased. Do try this winery – you won’t regret it. They are a cut above the rest in the area.

Stopped by today and was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the tasting room and grounds. The wine was delicious as was the antipasto platter we shared. I was disappointed, after paying $ 5 for tasting, by the light pours and lack of friendliness of the staff. This is too bad since we belong to 4 other wine clubs and are always considering others… this would be a good choice if they were nicer!
