We went in a few nights ago for a fast and delicious dinner and were very pleased. The customer service was excellent, food came out quick, and everything was hot and delicious. The tarter sauce was really good! Even our 2.5 year old ate her mini fish and chips with enjoyment. The restaurant is small, but clean and I love that they give you full bottles of ketchup and tartar sauce with your meal. We definitely used them!

This place is great. The fish and chips were perfectly cooked and delicious with the tartar sauce. The staff are super friendly too. Hubs and I have eaten fish & chips in England and New Zealand so we know our fish and chips!!! We will be back for sure.

Fish tastes and smells fishy. Although the fish looked great and was larger then it used to be, we just couldn’t get past the smell.

I really didn’t like fish… and then I came here. I probably won’t eat fish anywhere except here from now on. Thank you to my boyfriend who pressured me into trying a new place. And the servers/cook were so nice.

Pretty good fish and chips. Fish is is not too oily but would be better if a little bigger. The chips are mostly crispy. Cole slow is ok but costs extra with the 2 piece meal. I’ll be coming back to try the shrimp basket and calamari.

Although we’ve eaten at London’s Fish and Chips numerous times in the past, we were disappointed today. Less portions. Less fry’s for me are fine, but the fish was ridiculous. All batter and very little fish. Much smaller pieces too. I won’t be back. We’ll be going to the«Northridge» restaurant in Nevada City from now on when we feel like some fish and chips.

You’d never think it walking by, but this place is spot-on and doing fried food correctly. Deep-fried food is a paradox; when done correctly it is not greasy or unsavory at all. When done incorrectly, as it often is, the result is bad, greasy, soggy food. There is a lot more to deep frying than the house-cook knows. It has to be done a certain way and it centers around the fat(oil)being used. London’s Best uses very high quality oil and obviously care about their food. Their seafood items are always cooked to order. I can honestly say they have an amazing home-made recipe for tartar. Being the food– nazi that I am, I snuck out back and checked for empty jugs of tartar sauce in their garbage cans. Nope. They make it from scratch it’s very good for a town of 11,000 people. And that’s a corner a lot of places like to cut. Also, fry batter doesn’t need and should not have salt added to it. I found the batter to be pure and mild. Salt destroys oil in heat, any real chef knows that. They are wise for not putting salt int he batter that goes into their 70 dollar a jug oil. And to those who think that the fish should be fresh… yes ok. But then the complaint arises that the prices are high. The restaurant business is finicky and erratic here in the whole town– so fresh fish that doesn’t find a home in a mouth finds it way to the trash bin real quick. This will raise prices in a heartbeat, and thus they lose customers then they close their doors due to losing money then we have no fish to eat at all. If they are using frozen fish(which I doubt, at least the cod and oysters for example) then they are doing so out of necessity. They are also friendly, which is increasingly rare around here. They are the only fish place in town, so we are lucky for once.

Be suspect of all the 5 star reviews. This a standard battered frozen fish boiled in oil place like Long John Silver or something found at the county fair. Nothing special but nothing bad either. Tasty, yes. But have we lowered our standards to the point that a generic fast food joint gets 5 stars and exclamation marks?

Cheap, fast, and many possible combinations of Fish, Shrimp, Oysters, Crabcakes, etc. The Shrimp and Fish are my favorites, once I had Crabcakes that I thought were a little too moist. They seem happy to give you a cup for water. There is Cocktail Sauce, Ketchup, Tartar Sauce, and Vinegar at each table. There is plenty of indoor seating and a couple of tables outside in front of the restaurant(a good place for you if you have a fussing child in a stroller). We have been here for a quick dinner a half dozen times, we have always been served quickly.

Very delicious! I had both fish & shrimp and they were both Yummy! This place is always so tidy and clean. The owner is friendly. The food is always fresh and the price is reasonable. It is the go-to place for some of my Nevada County friends when we want a fast and easy lunch or dinner.

MATT C. needs to get a life. Now on to my review! This place IS delicious! The entire time we were there eating, the family that runs the joint was constantly cleaning, refilling sauces, answering questions, and refilling the water container. The fish they serve in the restaurant is very delicious. I’m not sure what is in the tartar sauce, but it is so good! I thought the fries were very good as well. I’ve only been here once, but it is very, very good. It may not be on par with fish in «London», but frankly, I could care less. It’s delicious. I guess the«boonies» can’t have good food. Gotta love some people. I will be a customer for life!

I don’t write many reviews, but seeing a previous review made me feel like I had to help counter that. This is probably the best fish and chips I’ve had anywhere. The fish is excellent, fresh tasting, and fried just right. And the tartar sauce is dangerously good. The fries aren’t anything special but the fish makes up for it. I haven’t had anything but the fish there, so I can’t speak on the other things, but with fish this good it’s hard to try anything else when we visit. You can tell the family there cares about their work and keep the place super clean and organized. Great job!

I should have known the other review was a fake… that is the problem with Unilocal in Grass Valley(or any place in the Boonies), you never know what to expect! This is NOT«London’s Best» and probably the worst fish I’ve had in a long time. Very insipid batter, with little or no flavoring or spices. The chicken strips are also very ordinary, like the«Chicken Selects» at McDonalds, only more expensive. Prices are rather steep, considering how bland and ordinary the fried food that is served here.
