I have been fishing with Shaun quite a few times, as he is my son. And while I am a very good and experienced fisherman, I don’t catch many Mackinaw like he does. He catches a lot more than I do, and they are far bigger. Like, a LOT bigger. Before he started guiding we fished several lakes known for their big Macks, including Stampede Reservoir, Gold Lake and Donner Lake. He always out fished me on the Macks.
Now that he is guiding and has been concentrating his efforts on Donner Lake, he has gotten to know this lake’s secrets very well. I know that when we go fishing with him, most likely there will be several large Mackinaw caught, and many times a big Brown Trout or 2 also.
He has all the right gear, and the right boat for fishing Donner and other High Sierra lakes. His boat is comfortable, he has a heater (YES!) and full canvas to protect you from the weather. In short, he is the right guy to hire if you want to learn how to catch big Mackinaw and big Brown Trout.
