Sierra View Medical Eye

First off, I think this is more of a «somewhere between four and five», but I think rounding up is more fair to a business that works hard.
First off, Dr Woodburn has been great — friendly, professional, competent, and listens to concerns (and acts on them when appropriate). His support staff are great too, and fun to talk to during pre-​exam. My only real concern (and where I’d knock those parts of a point) are that he, at least recently, has run quite a bit late. Front desk staff, however, were helpful enough to recommend a timeslot to me that would minimize waiting, and they were correct — at my last appointment, I showed up and was seen within minutes. So, it could be that I’ve just caught them on bad days, or that the timing matters.
I also think the optical department for getting glasses has been great — they know their materials and product, and are usually quite helpful. I’ve had a couple instances where I needed repairs for glasses I got there, and they helped — and quickly.
Regarding other mentions of front desk staff, I’ve never seen them be rude, but I have seen them be somewhat formal when people are airing frustrations with them. That’s to be expected, in my opinion though.
Overall, I think this is a good, solid medical office — they’ve been good to me, and usually are very helpful regarding any concerns I have. Make sure to ask your questions and you’ll be fine here. I’d recommend them to other people I know looking for eye care.

My husband and I have gone here for our annual exams and glasses since we moved to the area in 2008. I just went today and was once again impressed with how well I was treated, how pleasant and kind everyone was. My exam was thorough and the staff member who helped me order new lenses was wonderful. I am mystified by the two negative reviews I see on the site, but I suppose people have different perceptions. I wanted to put my experience out there, as it’s the way my husband and I have always felt when we go to Sierra View Medical Eye.

I would be pleased to give them a zero except Dr Woodburn O.D. was extremely helpful, professional and diagnosed my eye problem, which did require surgery.
However, the front desk staff is very rude and treats everyone like they’re old and feeble minded. I was there for just an examination by the doctor, yet they put me through a full comprehensive exam, because that is where the money is.
They support staff is helpful, yet also treat anyone over 50 as if we all have dementia, with the obligatory «OKAY» after every instruction as if we can’t grasp simple directions. They forget the people they are treating were; teachers, doctors, company and store owners, etc.
But the final insult was when I asked for my bill and they informed me that they could not give it to me because they had to ask the insurance company. Even after I told them I would be paying cash. As if the insurance company determines their fees schedule. About a month later I get a bill for over $ 600. I would never recommend that place to anyone because of the way they treat people, but again, Dr. Woodburn is excellent, why is he even there?

I must say I was shocked to see the two completely ridiculous reviews written about Sierra View previously to this review I am about to post. I don’t understand why someone and their entire family would continue to come to the same place if they claim the «staff» is so horrible. That doesn’t add up or make any sense at all. Also if a patient came In specifically for an irritation they had told the Doctor they are currently experiencing the Doctor would check the patient for an existing irritation obviously not a full eye exam. Who gets an eye exam with an updated Rx check when they are complaining their eyes are irritated? I think the reviews posted are just two people having a bad day and now lets not take it out on Unilocal.
Now for a real review — I know Sierra view is one of the busiest opthalmologist offices in northern California for more reasons than I can list. This office has been voted the best opthalmologist office in nevada county numerous years in a row. All of the Doctors are respectful and care about their patients. They are dedicated and it shows. The staff has to deal with some serious patient flow… I know I have been there and every seat has been taken. I think keeping everything together while maintaining a positive attitude and professional atmosphere is exactly what the staff does every single day. When calling to schedule an appointment even if they are extremely busy always no matter what the receptionists try to check with the Doctors and get you what you need. All around I think this office does a great job and they work hard and pride themselves in making sure patients needs are met. I’ve been coming here for years as well just like many patients and I felt an honest review was owed to this wonderful office with hardworking staff and dedicated Doctors.
