Peggy and Howard, the innkeepers at Swan Levine, are welcoming and colorful and a bit quirky, just like the B&B they run. A big, turreted, creaky Victorian crammed with art and odds and ends, Swan Levine House was at one time a hospital. My friend and I booked the Surgery, one of four available rooms. Tile floors, and the scrub sinks from its past use still working in the bathroom, with old enamel bedpans and other accoutrements stacked beneath, this room is both unusual and, in a slightly odd way, quite cozy. The light through the huge windows is so pleasant, and the view wonderful. The beds– this room has a pair of twins– were super– firm and comfy. Peggy is extremely knowledgeable about the area and its history, and can help you to be sure you take in all of the best of local attractions. The house is easy walking distance from downtown shops and restaurants. All in all, we had a delightful stay.

My husband and I love this little B&B. We stay here every year for the Father’s Day Bluegrass festival in the Surgery room. The room is all white tile with lots of wonderful décor including a claw-foot bathtub and a small museum of items from when this house was an actual hospital. The breakfasts are divine and it is close enough to the fair grounds that we walk to and from every day. It is very near downtown Grass Valley for those who want to tour that cute little town. Don’t steal our room on our weekend but do stay here, if you have the chance.
