Motel 72

I’m giving this motel a one star for the simple fact they cancelled our PREPAID and confirmed reservation we made through Expedia without notifying either us or Expedia. There were no rooms available in Grayling or nearby Gaylord. Fortunately we were able to find a small out of the way place that was only slightly better than our car. I told Expedia they should be removed from their list of hotels.

Gave the place a try about 10 years ago while up for a ski trip and were very pleasantly surprised, as small, older motels in Grayling we’ve stayed at often show heavy wear and tear. Motel 72 (formerly Western Trails) has been well kept up, with furniture recently replaced (and tends to be very plush, with lots of floral patterns, which is a bit curious, but when you just need a place to bunk for a couple nights, it doesn’t really matter). The place is quiet, and has interior entry to the rooms. Microwave and a good sized refrigerator allow you to enjoy a good meal in your room.
The one less-​than-​satisfactory element here are the bathrooms, which haven’t received as much attention as other parts of the rooms. While clean enough, some of the linoleum is pulling loose from the floors, and the bathtubs and sinks usually have rust stains. It can be hard to set the shower to a comfortable water temperature.
I’ve tried a couple other places in the years since we started going but haven’t found anything better at the price, bathrooms notwithstanding.

The Motel was clean for what it was and the price. I stayed there for 3 days over my christmas vacation after which the owner attempted to blackmail/​extort and extra $ 100 from me claiming I had smoked Cigarettes in the hotel room and this was the fee. He threatened to call the police and have them visit the hotel room. I informed him that his allegations were false and I had not smoked in the hotel room. He went on to tell me I had «unplugged» the fire alarm as well. I told him to go ahead and have the police come out because I had not smoked in the hotel room.
The hotel stay was on ¹²⁄₂₃ and I looked today and my credit card was charged $ 100 even though I did not authorize this charge nor was it valid.
I asked him if this was the way he treats all of his clients and asked him how he expects future/​repeat business at which point he got very upset and stated he did not want people like «me» (who had done nothing wrong) to stay in his motel.
