Won’t take my cars anywhere else. John is honest and fair and does a great job.

I was working in the area for a summer position, and so when my car needed some repairs, I had to pick a place based solely on reviews and location– I was not disappointed in Hamil’s. The repairs were done promptly, and John was very friendly and professional. When he called with an update, he actually explained what he had done to diagnose the issue– I felt neither talked down to (something that, for a woman, is all too common with some mechanics) nor pressured into any services I didn’t need. I only wish that I could take this auto shop with me when I head back out of town– such friendly, hassle-​free service is a rarity.

I grew up in Grayslake and my parents always took their cars here. Even though I live a half hour away now I took my car here today because they always do well by my parents. John was very friendly and prompt in returning my calls. They fixed my car in less than a day and it cost less than what I expected it would. It is hard to find a trustworthy mechanic, but that is exactly what you will find at Hamil’s.

Absolutely the best shop and mechanic I have ever used. John at Hamil’s Auto Haus is so honest, and has so much integrity, I would trust him with anything. Truly a gem!

I have used Hamil’s for years since moving to Grayslake 15 years ago. He has always provided a great service at a reasonable rate. He is one of the few that give an honest assessment of any situation. I recommend him for any repair.

John and Jerry are very friendly and hard working. They checked everything needed to be checked, and explained/​asked me before need to have air filter changed. I haven’t had a such thorough car maintenance service for a very LONG time. It makes me think if there was anything being checked by my previous mechanic shop other than just an oil change (which only take them 15 – 20 done with a «service»). Glad I trying out this place before my over-​filled oil and over-​dirty-​filter causing me more grief, done by the previous mechanic.
This place is small and don’t have a waiting area, which I’m fine with it. There is a family restaurant next door to have breakfast/​lunch or just a cup of coffee. A Walgreen across street, which was where I spend time there shopping and browsing magazines. The forest preserve is close by and it will be an excellent option for a nice walk (when the weather is good) — get your exercises in while waiting.
I’ll sure go back and recommend this place for others.

I started taking my car to Hamil’s when I was a younger, single girl. I was initially intimidated by any need for auto repair. I assumed, as a woman, that I would be seen as ignorant of car matters (which I am). I’ve never once felt that John and staff took advantage of that fact. I am always so impressed by each interaction with Hamil’s.
Most recently, I took a 10 year old car to John and asked him to do whatever it takes to get it in tiptop shape. John called me later that day and gave me his down right honest opinion: sell the car… it’s not work the money to fix it. I was shocked. He could have done the work and collected the $ 2,000 needed to fix it. But he didn’t. He told me he couldn’t justify me putting any money in to it. Who does what’s best for the customer anymore? His already strong credibility then went through the roof.
During that process of deciding what to do with our car situation, I called John quite a few times. I asked question after question. He was never bothered. He was always so nice. He always told me the truth. He made our decision to sell the car an easy one. I called him after to tell him what we made on the sale. We were both happy (and a little shocked) by the outcome. I sensed he was sincerely happy for us making the best financial decision we could.
I’m married now. My husband is a small engine mechanic. He knows his way around cars even though the larger engine isn’t his real talent. He is sold on Hamil’s too. He thinks they know what they’re doing, that the prices are good and that the service is great.
At the end of the day we all want to know that someone is looking out for us and our pocketbook, establishing a real and honest relationship… not just looking to make a buck. I’m so happy we stumbled upon Hamil’s. They’re our primary car caregivers now. I’d recommend them to anyone!
