Demeter Fragrance Library

Don’t even waste your time with Demeter Fragrances. Horrendous customer service. They refused to ship to my PO Box (despite accepting the PO Box as a shipping address when I initially placed my order), then left me hanging for almost TWO MONTHS to get a refund. I guess they were hoping I’d forget or something and they’d get to keep the money. Very shady.

I first discovered Demeter Fragrance Library at a small cosmetics boutique. The line includes scents one wouldn’t typically imagine wearing, such as laundromat or tomato, but I was immediately sold on their concept of «simple, subtle, singular scents.»
I’ve personally used some of what I’d consider «safer» scents: ginger ale, gin & tonic, whiskey tobacco and «this is not a pipe» (pipe tobacco, an homage to the Magritte painting), and although I haven’t tried layering anything, it’s a fun way to create a more complex scent of your very own. They are not extremely strong and generally won’t last all day, which is fine by me. Subtle, as they say. All of the scents are also at least 95% natural.
The «fragrance library» also includes some wild-​sounding scents like lobster, maple syrup, paint and sushi. This is probably a good time to mention their satisfaction guarantee, which allows customers to return anything they’ve ordered (less return shipping). Maybe smelling like Play-​Doh or mushrooms seemed just like a good idea at the time.
The scents are available in a number of formats: cologne/​perfume spray, oil roll-​on, room spray, diffuser, candle, shower gel, massage oil, soap, lotion, etc. They usually throw in a random full-​size freebie for orders over $ 25, which is easy to exceed when the products are priced accessibly and there is such a tremendous variety.
