My favorite perch in Green Bay! And I am really picky about my perch :)

I haven’t been here for years but it’s exactly what I like in a Wisconsin bar… what follows are the essentials. 1) Off the beaten path– This place was more off the grid years ago before urban sprawl but it’s still far away from the city. It’s in a part of Green Bay I would live in as it’s closer to Sturgeon Bay etc 2) Fried everything – People come for the burgers and stay for the curds 3) Authentic hole in the wall– Some places try to mimic this experience. This place is just plain dumpy and I mean that in a you will sit on a torn pleather seat that matches a wobbly table kind of way. 4) Ask for a whiskey and coke and they will give you the bottle and can 5) The burger is great because it doesn’t try to be some other places burger. It’s like they lived in isolation from the rest of the world and don’t give a shit.

This is a classic Wisconsin tavern with an old school style Friday fish fry. There’s a bit of a system to ordering here — first of all, cash only. There’s an ATM on site but it had a fee. You get a drink at the bar and they give you a number. You’ll wait a bit, and when they take your order the good comes out pretty quick. The seating is very limited, so only once your food is out do they seat you. You’ll pay for drinks at the bar separately from dinner, but you can order more drinks once you’re sitting down. It’s a bit of a process, but the place is small all out makes sense. I can’t soak highly enough about the breading on their perch. Nice and lightly coated. Rye is a light rye, and as standard in Wisconsin your perch comes with onions and rye bread, coleslaw and Tatar sauce. They also had haddock. The fries you get with a regular sized perch plate are an absurd amount. Seriously, if one person out of three gets fries, that will feed all of you. Their cocktails are strong, and their tap beer selection is Bud/light, Miller/light, Fat Tire, Stella Artois and Pabst. Ask for a non alcoholic kiddie cocktail(I knew them as a Shirley temple growing up) if your kids come along. Only downsides to this place are that it’s off the beaten path, and that it’s a sardine can on a Friday night. If you’re looking for some breathing room and a quiet enough atmosphere to talk, this might not be for you.

Strong drinks, VERY reasonable, good perch, tons of fries, and off the beaten path. In from out if town and went here during a Packer weekend. It was great being with the locals and away from some of the garbage bars around Lambeau. When I ordered drinks I was taken back by the low price and asked the bartender if that was for everything… that’s how reasonable this place is. I think the perch at Maricques is slightly better but my table was divided on this subject. I’ll be back again.
