This is a long review… if you don’t want to read it all the headline is: Severe Heat Damage from Stephany’s Salon(Divah’s Salon) I went to Stephany’s Salon(Divah’s Salon) January 9,2016. I was visiting MD from TX. I decided to try Stephany’s based on the glowing Unilocal review it is on the Unilocal«site» for Stephany’s Salon. I learned that the address on this Unilocal«site» is incorrect. After having my natural hair washed by her assistant and my rollers started, the assistant seemed to get tired of doing my roller set and Stephany came over to do my rollers. She encouraged me to get a blow dry and a flat iron instead of a roller set and blowout because the blow dry and flat iron would be less heat. She was showing me how my roller set was going to be frizzy. I said it is because there is too much hair in the rollers and it needs to be pulled tighter. She was dismissive of that. I showed her a picture of how I wanted my hair styled, it was a picture of me so I know my hair can be styled this way. I informed her that I didn’t want it very straight, she said she understood that I didn’t want a lot of heat. I was reluctant to get the blow dry and flat iron but I said that I will trust her as a professional. Her assistant saw her taking out the rollers and her assistant called me a b! tch in Spanish. Mind you I understand Spanish better than I speak it. But I understood that, I guess she was upset because she had put in eight rollers and I decided to go with a blow dry and flat iron. She blew my hair dry and I could smell burnt hair. She then flat ironed my hair. I left with it ridiculously straight and pincurled. My hair was so lifeless I couldn’t wear it down that night. All week long my hair was shedding and breaking. When I would comb it, it looked like the dead hair that comes from getting your hair cut. Oh, I left out that she trimmed my ends to «correct» my grown out hair cut. The trim was pretty terrible and uneven, thankfully she didn’t charge me for that. As a result of going to Stephany’s the two years of growing out a relaxer has all gone to hell. My hair is so severely heat damaged that even after a week it is still shedding. I no longer have curl in about 70% of my hair, just frizz and fuzz. I am going to have to go to a salon monthly to get trims to keep cutting off the damage. I can’t big chop my hair because even if I cut my hair down to an inch, there will be parts of it that are straight from the heat styling. I did call her to make her aware and though she was apologetic, she didn’t offer to refund my money nor did she offer any way to help the damage. The one thing she said is I needed to shampoo it again. I had shampooed it four times and that did not bring my curls back. Perhaps she was having an off day and this might not happen to you but I would be careful going here.

This is a new salon trying to build up its clientele. My first experience was overall very pleasant. I went in the day before Thanksgiving and at the time there was only one other customer. Surprisingly there was a delay before anyone greeted me when I entered. However once they realized that I had been waiting they were very apologetic as apparently they were eating lunch. The young lady who washes hair spoke English and was very sweet. The stylist was competent but had difficulty with her tools getting and staying hot. I suggested she take them back as the tools were new and should not be faulty. At the end of the day my hair was clean, shiny and bouncy. A job well done!

I discovered the salon via a PennySaver ad. I know, it seems ridiculous — but I am new to the area, so I was looking for a local salon that did«Black hair». I arrived to a neat salon that was more than happy to take me as a walk-in. The first stylist to greet me had a delay in her availability, so another stylist politely let me know that she could take me instead. Tarita was professional, efficient and knew exactly what she was doing. Because she was so personable, I felt like I knew her forever. The pricing listed in the PennySaver was not honored, but the prices were/are competitive and reasonable — especially for the services I got.
