Local artists. Elements. As much as I enjoy seeing art in various media from all over the state, country, or even the world, I especially enjoy the opportunity to find a new favorite in a local artist. Elements, a co-op, gives me the opportunity to do that. There are several art media represented: woodturning, stained glass, photography, clay, mixed textiles, and each artist’s work is identified with a name plate on the shelf. I found that easier to see than just the business card buried somewhere amongst the items. Elements, surprisingly, provides a space for work from students in the UNC-G art department. That’s pretty amazing and a great way to introduce future artists to the community. Like every studio, there’s always one or two that stand out for me and this was no exception. Everything is for sale making this a stop to find a one of a kind gift. Elements, perhaps in a co-op style, is staffed by artists whose work is displayed.(Or, at least it was during my visit.) I had the opportunity to speak with Cathy, whose specialty is glass art, who described a particular style she had recently learned and was now working. It was a real treat to hear and gave me more insight into the work itself.
