The first I had food from here was via a To-Go order with a friend on a Sunday. We ordered veggie burgers. The second time, again on a Sunday, I went alone, had another veggie burger, there. The third time, I ordered the corn beef sandwich. It was full of slimy fat! Disgustingly, I got awfully sick! Since then, I cannot stand to even drive past this place!

The ambiance and service were good. That’s it. We always try wings at bars and ordered the mild ones… no zing and they actually were a bit sweet. Our waitress brought some of their hot wing sauce for dipping and it was no better. Our BLT was barely toasted and the bacon tasted old and overcooked, like it had been cooked a few days earlier. I saw a special of a bacon cheeseburger dip, and thinking how I love a good burger dip or french dip, anything dipped in au jus is great, right? So I ordered it with fries instead of the listed chips. To our surprise, the waitress brought is a bowl of yellowish burger sludge that tasted gross… evidently dip there means like chips and dip, not a sandwich sipped into tasty au jus. The fries were so greasy they were limp and tasted like old used up fryer grease, Our waitress very nicely replaced this error with a regular cheeseburger. Sadly, this burger tasted like… well it had no taste. No salt and pepper, more steamed than grilled and so greasy the VERY soft bun it came on(that was not toasted) was wet and not very appealing. This was a very disappointing visit to Grey’s.

Great local dive bar to watch sports. They change up appetizers and soups often. Stop by for lunch and try out the sandwiches. Best bartenders in town! This isn’t a suit and tie place but that’s the point, you go to watch sports and drink beer.

This is a really good tavern to come too if you want to get some nice drinks good atmosphere and listen to some good bands they can only have one band each night of the week, we had a great experience although the wait staff was seem to be a little impatient we still managed to have a good time overall experience I would suggest 3& a half stars for this particular place great location downtown Greensboro.

Went for lunch with a co-worker, one of their favorite spots. I am a sucker for a club sandwich and I highly recommend this one!

A nice little bar and restaurant right next to Natty Greene’s. It’s quieter and more sedate than Natty’s, with better food and much better prices. Everything I’ve had to eat here has been excellent – especially the chicken tenders and sliders.

I’ve been told by a few friends to give this place a try so it was with much anticipation that I finally did. I went for lunch around 1:45 or so and it was completely empty. The layout of the place was pretty cool and had a lot more space than I thought it would given the outside of the location appearing small. The high ceilings were very nice too although I can see how it could help amplify some loudness during the night time rush. The services was decent enough. Our server was seemingly vacant of much expression and blankly attended to our needs. This was done sufficiently enough but at a tavern, it would be nice to have a more friendly and communal approach to the service. I ordered the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Burger but I replaced the cheddar cheese with the pimento cheese. I’ll say I was happy that they made their own patties and they weren’t tiny. Then there was the egg. Why?! Why offer an egg on a burger when you’re just going to fry it hard? That destroys all the flavor of the actual egg leaving it bland and frankly irrelevant to the composition of the dish. Then there was the pimento cheese. I’m not really sure this cheese should be classified as a pimento cheese. There was hardly any pimento in the cheese and the shredded cheese was just dumped in. The server even indicated that several people have even asked her if it really is pimento cheese. I’ll give props for trying to accommodate a trend but you have to do it right. The burger had little to no seasoning with the exception of Worcestershire sauce. Literally that was all. The burger was dry and overcooked. Now the french fries were great! If they would put even half the season that was on the fries onto the burger… it would have been a much different story.

Stopped by one night for trivia and had a blast! It was Halloween-time so it was horror themed. I’m a big horror movie buff so my team killed it! We haven’t been back but I’m going to make it my mission to stop by for beer and trivia ASAP!

We have been to Grey’s many times and finally went for Trivia Night this past week. The atmosphere at Grey’s is all-around comfortable and welcoming. Just a note that at times it can be a little hard to get a food order in when the tables are full, so don’t go here if you’re in a hurry. The menu is classic tavern/bar/grill fare and is well executed. The menu items are well priced, espcially for downtown. My recommendations for vegetarians are the veggie hot dogs(ask them to grill the weenie extra long) and the Reuben sandwich made veggie(not on the menu). The french fries are hand-cut and the ranch dip is made in-house. My friends and I love the beer selection here. Grey’s is one of the few places in town that consistently offers Red Oak’s Hummingbird on tap. If you’re with a group of friends, ask about the Tower. This is a German-style pitcher — 3 liters of beer with your own spout that sits in the middle of the table. The guy who runs the trivia game is amazing! He does a fantastic job of selecting questions of varying difficulty and sharing random factoids. He is an excellent entertainer as well — he keeps the atmosphere light and fun between rounds and encourages fun competition between groups. The prizes are better than other trivia spots in town to boot — $ 40 for first place and $ 20 for second place to spend at Grey’s(PS: second place covers a tower of Beer and enough spare change for a half plate of fries).

Terrible atmosphere, the supposed«manager» just stared at people while the wonderful bartender was in the weeds. She did her best but the creepy guy was too much. I wish I could give zero stars

this is a cool little bar/restaurant on S. Elm Street. I really like the way old building they are in — very comfortable. Grey’s hamburgers are as good as any in town and they have a number to choose from. I had the pimento cheese burger which was outstanding. It’s a large burger with fresh ground beef so you can have it cooked to your preference. The fries are fantastic. They also offer a number of sandwiches, salads, and wings. Everything tastes really fresh. Grey’s has a good selection of draft beer and a full bar. A good place to hang out and watch a game while downtown.

Pita wraps are what’s up. Definitely try the fresh fruit as a side option. They give a very generous portion and have a wide variety of fruit that’s in season. Today the side was grapes, blueberries, apple slices and oranges.

This place is a mixed bag. I’ve been there only a few times, but never quite took a liking to it completely. One of my first impressions of the place was on a DJ night. There was a girl in a spandex dress grinding on some dude’s junk in the window. It’s not at all set up to be a dance venue. Way too many chairs, way too crowded for that. Trivia night is a nightmare. It’s way too crowded and loud. The audio was horrible… couldn’t hear a thing. The bartenders get some brownie points for being friendly.

It had been awhile since we’d been to this downtown Gboro grill and watering hole, but when I realized they now had cooked-in-house pulled pork on the menu, we stopped in for lunch — you gotta follow the barbecue trail, wherever it leads. Have always loved the burgers and the hand cut FF, but the pulled pork was new meat, indeed. The pulled pork here begins with a Boston Butt, which is slow cooked overnight, until very tender, then shredded. The meat is very tender, fairly moist, but with no hint of smokiness — and, of course, cooked this way it wouldn’t unless you throw in some hickory smoke, which always makes the taste artificial. The meat comes out on a large Kaiser type roll, and it basically is unsauced. Thet offer a vinegar based Eastern NC style sauce, but there is little heat to it — I found a nice dose of commercial hot sauce did a lot to correct that. The slaw is coarsely chopped — more sliced actually, probably with a food processor using a circulat blade attachment. The slaw has a lttle carrot in it, and is fairly dry, no mayo base here. All in all, this is not a bad choice — not strictly traditional NC barbecue, but quite nice in it own right, once doctored a little. The burgers remain excellent & large; the FF are among the best in town(hand cut with skin on), while the potato salad is decent — would be great if they used sour pickles, instead of sweet — personal preference, there. They also offer a hot dog, and what was interesting to me was that one version is with a «ripped» wiener — which means it is deep fried to the point that the outer skin actually rips in places — this is a popular way of cooking weiner in NJ(Rutt’s Hut in Clifton), and some other spots in the NE. They use a ¼ lb all beef weiner here, and though it is, indeed, deep fried, it does not come out ripped. Chili is a little thin, and lacks any zing — nice to try, but no repeat here. Service is excellent(at least at lunch) and always friendly. We have just been in for lunch — we don’t do much in downtown Greensboro at night, parking on side streets, and dodging young inebriates is not something I really embrace as an entertaining evening. Like most of the food items here — We’ll be back — at least for lunch.

We came on the early side for an early dinner. My sister knew this place would get loud after a certain time so I’m glad she recommended going sooner rather than later. Since we went early, the service was friendly and attentive. We shared an app of nachos, which was a huge portion! [we demolished it though!] All of our burgers were nice and juicy [not oily, juicy] and the fries were nice, fresh, crispy, and seasoned well. [sorry other reviewer :(] Being from up north I wanted to try a localish beer, and decided on the Red Oak — I really enjoyed it and it went down smooth! It was a great compliment to our burgers. The atmosphere is a bit dingy, worn wooden tables, but hey, whatever… it’s a divey bar but all of the silverware, plates, glasses seemed clean enough. :) I’ll def go back when I’m back in the area visiting family — I’m interested in trying one of their friend hot dogs. Being from NJ, knowing«rippers» well — I’d like to compare! So again, go on the early side if you want a more quiet bite to eat, or go a bit later when it’s more livelier.

In the past I’ve found this place to be too loud – to the point I felt I couldn’t hear myself think, but I recently visited again and found it much improved. The music wasn’t deafening. Seemed much more relaxed. The food was terrific as well!

Grey’s is one of my favorite downtown places to drink and eat. The only thing better than the food is the service. The bartenders are funny, attractive women. Try the pimento grilled chicken sandwich! Drinks are fairly priced and they have shot machines for instantly cold Firefly and Jäger. The jukebox has some good stuff. The location is perfect. No parking, but that’s downtown for you. They are open late(as in all night) so get there early and drink up!

Hmmm. I’ve been to this spot 2x and was not impressed on either occasion. Perhaps I am just spoiled by the awesome Philly Pub&Grub scene we have going on up here but Greys just didn’t do it for me. Sure it was convenient to the hotel, the prices were fairly reasonable and the beer list was«ok» BUT I wasn’t impressed with the food or the service. Sitting at the bar and eating is not my favorite thing but when there are no seats available at tables, I’ll take it. Arrived on a Friday night around 6pm and there was only 1, 4-top table available and we had a party of 8. So, 4 of us acquiesced and sat at the bar, separate from the rest of our party. No biggie. HOWEVER, when I sit at the bar for a meal and I am one of only 5 people sitting there, I expect to get service that is just as good as anyone seated at a table. In fact, I expect it to be better. A waitress has to tend to multiple tables at a time, spread throughout a restaurant — you have 5 people to serve that are all within 10 feet of you(and 15 feet of the kitchen) no matter where at the bar you are standing. Unfortunately, the bartender was much more interested in chatting up the cute waitress than he was in serving myself and my 3 friends sitting at the bar. The 4 top that was with us were tended to quickly and were done with their meals more than 30 minutes before those of us seated at the bar. We weren’t lolligaging either, our orders were taken well after theirs, our food delivered well after theres and don’t get me started on the difficulty in getting the bartender’s attention to retreive the check. My food was just«ok». I had a veggie wrap. Edible, but I wouldn’t go back for more. The food just wasn’t worth the aggravation. I don’t really see what everyone is raving about here. Is there no where else decent to eat/drink in downtown Greensboro?

Great neighborhood hangout and definitely better than your average bar food! Try the Bacon Cheddar Dog! All beef hot dog stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon and deep fried! A truly memorable experience in tasty goodness! The sliders and the homemade Pimiento cheese are also highly recommended.
