I love to cook. Even better, I love to experiment in the kitchen. That being said, when I first walked in here, I was like a kid in a candystore here. Or better yet, like one of the bratty children exploring Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, except there are no chocolate waterfalls or snozzberries here of course. Instead you will find a vast assortment of spices and salts, and other condiments. In fact I love it so much I feel a song coming here… Little Savory Spice Shop(Inspired by Pure Imagination) — by Rob Young Come in here and you’ll be In the world of this little savory spice shop Sample salts, sniff some leaves No need for an explanation Walk right in, view the scene You’ll be in a world of culinary creation Many things, you will see, or need to ask for an Explanation If you want a taste of cooking paradise Or if you simply want to experiment You’ll pay more than average for it But if you want to change your world, do it The owners are nice, there’s sugar and spice It’s a world of culinary creation You shop there, and you’ll be free A creative foodie you can be

In Greensboro, Clayton Kile is the owner and Ashley manages this location. The magic is not only the ground weekly freshness of the spices and blends, but their food knowledge. Ashley is a cognoscente of spices and flavors that spans the cornucopia of oils, spices, blend, and herbs so plentiful it will amaze an ardent chef or the meticulous home chef. The store does its homework in that they stay current with the trends in foods in restaurants and international cuisine. This will help you expand your culinary skills. As a guest chef, I taught a series of classes in Greensboro store. I like them a lot since the freshness of their spices are guaranteed. The selections are excellent including some special blends that I find wonderful. If you study their lists, you may find things that you did not even know about. These are some of my more useful/uncommon selections Mesquite Smoke Flavoring Pimenton De La Vera, dulce(smoked paprika)(see recipe Potatoes Catalan) Jamaican Jerk Seasoning, Extra Hot Mapuche Style Merken Chili powder(Merquen) Chile, Aji Amarillo, Ground(aka Aji Escabeche) Chile, Habanero, Ground Pearl Street Cedar Plank rub(I use this on salmon and sweet potato fries) Sea Salt, French Fleur de Sel Sumac, Ground(Persian food) Peppercorns, Szechwan(Thai and Chinese) Vanilla Extract, Pure Tahitian Demi Glaze, Veal Mushrooms, Porcini, Dried Parmesan Pesto Sprinkle Kaffir Lime Leaf Powder There online presence is great but until the event«smellarama» going to the store will there will always be a first choice. The other clients often turn out to be a treasure. I have discovered new great restaurants and other products. Some many things are available nowhere else in Greensboro.

Love stopping into Savory Spice Shop! They literally have pretty much any spice your heart desires. I recently ran out of vanilla extract and instead of just running to the grocery store I knew I wanted to hold off until I could get to Savory Spice Shop. The quality there can not be beat. Sure you may pay a bit more but everything is reasonably comparable. I ended up buying the vanilla paste which is like a hybrid of the bean itself and vanilla extract. Ashley is awesome! If you have questions about what spice to use or what would work best in a certain recipe she is your lady. She truly knows her stuff and is happy to take time with you making suggestions, smelling different things, and making sure you leave the store happy. They are tucked away in the back, past the Harris Teeter, by the Red Mango and the Olive Oil shop. Next time you are in Friendly Center definitely venture in to check this place out.

When you’re little, you have candy stores, and then that develops into chocolate addiction, and then gradually you need to venture into further extremes that make you appreciate flavors like you never have before(especially if the rest of your palate is keeping up). This shop helps keep me stimulated and inspired! I love how friendly and sweet the staff is, and how they still remember all of my preferences. Bonus points: they always seem to have something super delicious to sample.

Great spot for any foodie cooking at home. While this is a multi-state chain, ours carries several local products(my tea hugger!) too. The shop offers classes as well. My favorite spices in stock – the curries and salt. Salt for days. It’s fantastic.

Bought some spices here but there were OLD and they tasted bland. Perhaps the merchandise should have expiration dates.

This place is a dream. So much care, so many choices, they let you smell and taste everything. Customer service was the best. Prices were great. Custom sets or pre-made sets. Cooking ideas straight from the employees mouth. I will be going back as soon as I can!

I was in heaven. I love this place. First off when you walk into the store you are filled with the aroma that alone would be worth the visit. We were quickly greeted and given the lay of the land. They have everything you can think and then some. The prices are unbeatable and the fact that you can vary the size of your order very specifically is another plus. I’m looking forward to going back and getting some new stuff to experiment with.

What a great little shop, loaded with all the spices imaginable, with spice blends for various ethnic cuisines, and a variety of dishes, and cooking methods — like grilling, etc. The place is bright, modern, and very clean. The service is absolutely outstanding. The thing I love most after the large variet, and the freshness, is that you can buy small quantities, as small as ¼ of an ounce. Prices are reasonable — but obviously, not all spices are inexpensive.

Love, love, love this shop. This shop has a tremendous selection of spices — any and all i have ever needed. They also have a large selection of pre-made«rubs» — they have them in labeled area’s to help such as seafood, bbq, pork, etc. The great thing is they have a «taster» for every spice in the shop so you can taste everything before you buy — its pretty awesome(and once you are done, you are encouraged to just rub your hands together to put the excess on the floor). The owner is super knowledgeable and i have never been steered wrong if i go in and ask him to make a recommendation for a rub for a certain fish, pork, etc…4 starts for him and his shop — not 5 because when he’s not there, the staff is alot less knowledgeable and helpful. Another big plus is that you can buy in various amounts — a small sample, half jar, full jar or larger… great store for foodies!

i love this place! I have started replacing all my «old» spices with spices from here and the cost is miniscule! Pls thru the end of March, each bottle of your spices you bring in to them, they will give you $ 1 off the purchase of your next spice! Awesome. I bout 6 bottles the other day and paid only $ 15(garlic salt, vanilla bean sugar, cayenne pepper, chili powder, pumpkin pie spice and honey powder). And when you finish you spice jar, if you bring it back with you to refill, you get $ 1 off. I def am a lifelong customer here!

The Savory Spice Shop features spices, spices and more spices. They vary across continents and cuisines, tied together in a global fusion. As I wandered from one section to the next, my mind went wild with new and revived culinary ideas. But, what interrupted me? The friendly Spice-gal(I made that up myself) who encouraged me to taste, smell and once done, just whisk away the evidence. Yes please!(By the way, the store and floor were kept very clean). I saw spices I had never imagined seeing in lil’ ol’ Greensboro. And, when I left, I had a smile and a hodge-podge of baggies and bottles, filled with delicious spices, including Mexican vanilla. Just the other day the hubs & I had just joked that, now that we were out of real Mexican vanilla, we would just have to go back to Mexico! I guess now we’ll have to find another excuse. Wonderful locally owned and operated franchise. I highly recommend for fellow-foodies!
