Wife and I always split a chopped plate with beans and fries she orders BBQ sandwich. plenty of beans and fries with chips for us to share.

This is a good stop… with the right expectations going in. If you’re looking for a place with ambiance, original personality, and absolute authentic bbq… keep looking. If your looking for a basic decent meal, served quick, at a very reasonable price… this might be your stop. Choices are limited, so service is fast. I enjoyed my meal as did the three others in my party. I would have rated 4 stars, if not for a couple of small details. Those being: the «hot» bbq is not hot by any standard, good sure, but not hot. The second is that the Bbq sauce and ketchup are in the same squeeze bottle; so I ended up covering my fries in the bbq. Not terrible; but sometimes the little things make the difference. In close, make sure this is the type of place you are looking for; basic, fast and affordable. Then relax and enjoy. Cheers.

Mediocre food. At least it was cheap. Mac and cheese and the baked beans tasted like they came out of cans. Pork was ok but lukewarm.

Excellent pulled pork and sides.

Six of us ate for $ 36. We really enjoyed our dinner.

It has been many years since I’ve eaten at Charlie’s. I travel through Greenville, SC a lot but don’t have much business in Greenville any more. Well I was on my way home, going to arrive too late for dinner there and remembered Charlie’s so I thought I’d check it out again. I arrived just before closing, they were nice enough to serve me and I worked to get out of there before they were ready to leave. This was a different location than when I last ate here. Basically across the street I believe from their old location? So many years since I was last here.
This was and probably still is some of the best BBQ in the immediate Greenville area. Their pork was every bit as good as I remembered it; no disappointments, and it was moist even though I was served the serving of the day. I just wish they offered a good Vinegar sauce as that would really compliment their work in smoking the pork.
The beans were good but nothing to really get excited about.
The potato salad on the other hand, it was awesome. Some of the best I’ve had.
I will certainly try to get back here again in the near future not the distant future.

Just a simple, no frills restaurant with barbeque that’s inexpensive but generous portions. The pork was moist with a little smoke flavor to it, on a regular bun. Baked beans were pretty standard, potato salad had a nice flavor to it. Only one type of sauce to add, a vinegar based sauce– regular or hot. I tried them both and honestly couldn’t tell the difference. All in all, decent barbeque, but I was hoping for a little more from South Carolina. If I lived nearby, I’d probably be stopping by about once a week for a quick meal or cheap takeout.

So… I was very disappointed in the BBQ served here. I was expecting an experience similar to previous reviewers. No such luck!!!
Prices are great. The amount of food on that plate had my mouth watering until… I tasted the pulled pork. It was so dry and flavorless. The sauces are so average and average. I wanted this to become my new fav. spot for que.
One star for the amount of food and another for speed of service.

If you want a ton of food for under $ 10 at lunch time you need to check out Charlie’s BBQ. Once again I found this place by searching good ol Unilocal and I was not disappointed. Had the BBQ plate lunch and they served it up right at the counter as I paid, no waiting! Comes with 2 sides, I decided on the slaw and French fries which to my delight were crinkle fries, with sweet tea and including tax my total was $ 8.25, ppl seem to complain a lot down here about that price being «expensive» for lunch but come on guys, you get what you pay for, I’m from a larger city and this is a smokin deal (pun intended). They include chips with every meal too, I had enough leftovers for dinner! Yummy yummy! Great job guys.

So a buddy of mine Jim grew up on Charlie’s. And I am talking like eating at the original one in the early 60’s. He tells me the menu and recipes are virtually unchanged from those days.
So right off the bat I like the heritage and simplicity!
The pork is shoulder… ie «you’re eating high on the hog».
Loved the 2 sauces. Loved so much I couldn’t decide which one I liked better as both had tastes that seemed to evolve and flavor differently with each bite.
If your going through Greenville, a great place for a quick bite of pig!

I paid $ 7 for good barbecue (combination plate which means chicken and pork). I would say this is more of a good lunch spot than a take someone out for BBQ spot. Their selection is limited and the mac and cheese was the only side I liked which was very basic.
This place shined in the BBQ (well duh). The chicken and pork was moist and loaded with flavor. The BBQ sauce came in two options hot and mild. I would like to see a few more options but who knows, maybe that’s why this place is such a bargain.

Best BBQ you can get for money… Whenever I’m in town this is the place to go for me. And it’s hard to be in town living in Germany… Dang I miss that.

My parents live right down the road from this place, and I was in town visiting them, so I decided to give them a try. I got a large BBQ sandwich with their hot sauce and side of mac and cheese and cole slaw. The sandwich was awesome, really tasty, and the sauce is just a tiny bit spicy, and goes well with a sandwich. The mac and cheese is standard stouffers style which is OK but nothing special. The cole slaw is a little different than I’m used to, a bit brighter of a flavor and not as sweet; it goes well with the sandwich though and I liked it. I wish there was one of these down the street from where I live in california, I’d be there all the time.

This is a great place for BBQ. I love te chicken, it has a good smokey flavor

Living in New York now, I miss my BBQ!!!
This place turns out great barbecue at such an affordable price! I love the atmosphere at lunch time. Construction workers to doctors flock here for cheap, good eats! The crinkle fries are delish as well!
