If you love smoked meats, you will LOVE Dickey’s! The staff was friendly and helpful as well.

In town for work and I’ve come in everyday for lunch. First day I had the turkey breast, jalapeño beans, and green beens. Didn’t try any sauce and the meat doesn’t need it. Very moist and slight smokey flavor was very good. Jalapeño beans are very good and good spice level. Green beans are good no thy fancy. Had the same sides and the beef brisket the next two days and that was excellent. Cooked just right and also no sauce needed

Being from the Midwest, my husband and I aren’t fond of the Eastern Carolina barbecue. We are used to smoked meat, with rich, thick barbecue sauce. Eastern Carolina barbecue is steamed meat with a watery vinegar-based sauce, which is okay, just not barbecue! Dickey’s is the only barbecue joint that actually serves smoked meat, here in Greenville. They do offer four different barbecue sauce choices and the Eastern Carolina sauce being one of them, so you can still get the Eastern Carolina taste if that is what you like, just with smoked meat instead of steamed. We did like the taste of the meat, although the brisket was a little dry. The pulled pork was really good. I also agree that the sides are nothing to write home about, and the prices are a little on the high side. One thing that I thought was really nice is that they offer free ice cream cones to their customers. All in all I think this is the best barbecue joint in Greenville!

I always get the big barbecue plate with a side of mac and cheese and fried okra. Its my favorite! Free ice cream with every meal. The barbecue sauce is nice and hot. Love the whole theme of the restaurant. Keeps everything nice and southern. Service can be slow sometimes. They ran out of pork ribs when I tried to order some before. Also, their Thursday student discount is deceiving. It says $ 4 for a sandwich with college ID on Thursdays, but they only gave me 10% off which meant I still ended up paying more than $ 5. Other than that, the food is what keeps me coming back. I have yet to find a place in Greenville that serves perfect, fall-off-the-bone meat like Dickey’s.

This place has good genuine barbecue food. It is a bit out of place as some of the other reviewers have mentioned because it is surrounded by Eastern Carolina BBQ places, most of them very good. Dickey’s is NOT Eastern Carolina BBQ, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The food, as far as barbecue is concerned, was good. I had chopped pork and smoked ham. Both were very good, especially because they were actually cooked with smoke. It doesn’t seem like most Eastern Carolina BBQ places smoke their meats, which is a shame. The smoke flavor is a big part of BBQ in my opinion. They also have a barbecue sauce«bar» where you can choose several different flavor/types of barbecue sauce. The two that I tried were good and in an area where all the other barbecue places around don’t even have barbecue sauce, made it that much better. Most of the sides were good, except for the mac n cheese. It tasted like it was made with the fake powder cheese. I wouldn’t order that again. We had the Brunswick stew, slaw, and hush puppies and they were very good. The prices are much higher than surrounding barbecue places, which will effect how many times I visit the restaurant. Most Carolina barbecue is cheap and you get plenty. Dickey’s varies in that you pay more and get less. Nonetheless, I will be back and would recommend Dickey’s for anyone looking for good traditional barbecue food.

I was fairly disappointed by Dickey’s. The restaurant is, unfortunately, smack dab in the middle of Eastern NCBBQ country, which means that the Texas-style BBQ is a bit of a shock for someone expecting chopped pork Eastern NCBBQ. But that’s OK because it’s all about the food, not about your expectations. First, the food. The food wasn’t really terrible, it just wasn’t very good. I ordered the brisket with 2 sides(beans and fries) and a soda and the wife ordered the BBQ sandwich with 2 sides. The sides weren’t bad, but nothing to write home over(although she liked the potato casserole). She wasn’t a big fan of her sandwich, and I think the reason is that the brisket was far too overdone. Brisket should be fall-apart tender and this stuff was tougher than most well-done steaks. It’s also fairly expensive. Once you get a drink, you’re easily paying over $ 10 per person for a fairly basic lunch. The staff were a little disconnected. Only 2 people working during a busy lunch time means that things move slowly and necessary stuff(like making sure the bathrooms have soap) doesn’t get addressed. They needed at least 1 – 2 more people working. If this place were anywhere else, I’d give it 2 stars and say«meh». But honestly, since this place is just a block away from much, much better and authentic Eastern NCBBQ down at the far-superior Parker’s, I’m going to drop them to one star and just say«skip it».

Food was ok, prices seemed steep for what you got. Total tab was $ 37 for me and my two sons. Will not go back

Dickey’s is the bomb! The Westerner sandwich is my favorite sandwich in the world… brisket, spicy cheese sausage with warm red sauce. WOW! The ribs are also amazing, fall off the bone every time. Plus free ice cream and/or rootbeer floats in the big yellow cup. This place is one of the best spots in Greenville. I’ll see you there soon!

My husband and I went here because we thought we were going to a good BBQ joint. Should of known when the place was kind of empty, other than us there was one other couple there. We were highly disappointed with what we ordered. What a waste of money, we haven’t been back since…

Best BBQ in Greenville. Here’s why: 1) They cook with wood!!! Most of the BBQ joints in town simply steam their pulled pork or chicken. When you walk into Dickey’s, you smell the smoke… yum. 2) Meat quality. Some BBQ places in town have a lot of «filler» in their pulled pork BBQ.(cartilage, etc) Dickey’s pulled BBQ is very clean, and the other items I got(sliced brisket and chicken) were delicious, with a nice smoked flavor. 3) Free soft serve ice cream, and pickles. 4) Lots of BBQ sauce choices.(sweet, vinegar based, spicy, and original) 5) Nice service. The people there were quite nice, and thanked me for coming. 6) Variety of sides. They have lots of sides to chose from. I’ve lived in Greenville for 10 years, and this was my first visit to Dickey’s. I’m definitely coming back.

This is the McDonalds of BBQ. Prices are inflated much higher than other local and chain BBQ joints. Service is bad, food was short spooned and over priced. The quality of product was below average for Newfoundland BBQ.
