Not my favorite downtown dining spot, but we have had a few good meals there. The bone marrow is amazing, if you like bone marrow!

We had dinner at Soby’s tonight & it was phenomenal! The meal was exquisite — the Fried Green Tomatoes were outstanding, the Pork Tenderloin wrapped in Bacon was scrumptious, and the Shrimp and Grits was top notch. Kelly was awesome! The Happy Anniversary Card from the staff was over the top. This is a must do if in Greenville!!!

Tonight blew, honestly. The she crab soup is awesome, as always. Unfortunately, I switched it up to something«healthy». I wanted a salad, but I also wanted protein. I ended up getting the blt Bibb salad, but with grilled shrimp. Sounded delicious, right? Soooo wrong. Even if it was dressed right, and the over cooked sad little shrimp were good, the salad was just eh… Unfortunately, they put about a half cup of dressing on it, so it was more like a soup… I would have sent it back immediately, but I just finished a 4 mile walk and was starving. Beware, and stick to what you know, if you’ve been here. Just do meat…

We have been here a couple of times and we enjoyed very much. The dishes are very good and the environment is always comfortable. Service is ok, not the best just ok. I don’t give 5 stars because the restrooms were disgusting, paper everywhere and not clean at all both times

I am a fan. This is a higher end restaurant that didn’t quite deliver the experience to garner 5 stars, but then it is close. Our waiter was excellent. His manner conveyed an assurance that he was quite capable, and he didn’t disappoint. I commented that each time one of us would suggest that a glass needed topping off, he somehow appeared with the Sancerre. The wine list is impressive. It took a while to even find the Sancerre… It was a birthday gathering and I mentioned this as I reserved the table. Our waiter asked who was celebrating, but didn’t follow through with any sort of desert, etc. to commemorate the occasion.(maybe that would have pushed things over to the 5 star rating.) We had a Pimento cheese plate appetizer for the table which was a big hit with everyone… and I can tell you that this is a family that enjoys cheese. I had the Venison which looked like a filet sliced into two pieces. Well prepared, not overly seasoned, no game taste… It was medium rare as I requested, and my wife’s was a bit more done as she requested. The meat was just a bit tough, and I am willing to admit that venison can be difficult, so I’m not too displeased. Others at the table picked the short ribs. A taste of that plate revealed a superbly cooked and expertly spiced meal. I think that if I went back I would go for their crab cakes which seem to attract a lot of attention. We skipped desert since we had a cake waiting for s back home… I would come back.

We enjoyed a wonderful anniversary meal at Soby’s. This restaurant is pure quality and it shows in the food and the service. We ordered a half bottle of the King Estate Pinot Gris and enjoyed an appetizer of fried green tomatoes with a pimento cheese fondue. Delicious little cheddar biscuits were then brought to our table, along with clean silverware for our entrees. We ordered the special, which was surf and turf(with sirloin, shrimp, scallops, and lentils with bacon), and the bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Every bit of the food was nothing short of perfection in presentation and flavor. Everyone from the hostess to the wait staff took great care of us and made us feel special, especially when the complimentary and unbelievably fresh and delicious banana cream pie was delivered(with a candle on top!) to our table. There’s a reason why some restaurants have been around for years, and why some just fade away after a while. Soby’s success is no secret… just read the above. They showed us why they will continue to have a lasting presence in downtown Greenville.

I hate to say it but I really don’t know what all the fuss is about at this restaurant. We were told this is one of the best restaurants in Greenville and we were very underwhelmed with the food here. The cocktail we chose was overly sweet to the point of being undrinkable. My boyfriend ordered the duck which is typically a favorite of both of ours and it was very overcooked and tough. I ordered a fish special which had a little shrimp cocktail mix on top and the flavors were not cohesive in the slightest. We won’t be returning after that experience. I’m giving it 2 stars because we had a good server and the crab fries were good, other than that… everything was a miss.

The quick version: Good food and outstanding service. Our group of 5 was taken in by the drink menu. OK, maybe the success of the waiter in selling us drinks had something to do with the rest of this review. Seriously, we got the fried green tomatos and the mussels as shared appetizers, and we all thought they were good. Maybe not excellent, but no complaints. Three of us opted for a daily special of scallops. They were quite nice, though the searing on one side could have been better matched on the flip side. The vegetable plate with crabcakes added was another well-received meal, though be forewarned if you are expecting Maryland style crabcakes that you will NOT get that. The three layer chocolate dessert promised more than it delivered. It was essentially three layers of slightly different fudge. So, all in all a decent place.

Reservations at this place are a must on a Friday and Saturday night. Unless you some how get lucky(might want to buy a lotto ticket) This is probably my favorite restaurant in Greenville. The she crab soup is the best I have ever had by a long shot. It is really rich and comes with a pretty healthy portion would definitely recommend splitting it. The garlic cheese biscuits that come out before your meal are heaven in a ball. No need for any butter on these bad boys. I have been here 3 times now and haven’t bothered trying anything else but the deconstructed chicken pot pie, the fried chicken that comes with it is cooked to perfection and makes my mouth water just thinking about it! If you are in the Greenville area and haven’t tried Sobys you’re missing out!

First things first — minus one star — no draft beer. Group dinner — very good tasting appetizers shared by the table. She crab soup was outstanding — I’d go back just for that. Bacon wrapped pork tenderloin was delicious along with the mashed potatoes — clean plate club. Finished up with the banana cream pie which was good but not outstanding(same went with the capuccino). As we were with a group — it was a fixed menu. Still fantastic. I would like to visit again and try some of the other items on the menu. I liked the ‘fun’ ambiance of the place — definitely a place to see and be seen in Greenville(or that was my impression /perception of being a home-bound visiting Yankee). Check it out — I guarantee you’ll find multiple things you’ll love.

Words cannot describe their brunch. They have an awesome build your own Mimosa for around three bucks as well as bloody Mary menu. Their omelette bar is something I also enjoyed. Worth every penny, but I highly recommend having a reservation.

THESHECRABSOUPISTHEBESTWEEVERHAD! Soby’s is reimagined Southern fare featuring local coastal fare in an airy, brick-walled building with a huge wine cellar. When you walk into Soby’s, your eyes automatically fall to the open kitchen, which is the gorgeous, hammered copper centerpiece of the restaurant space. THESHECRABSOUPISTHEBESTWEEVERHAD! Hand down. We enjoyed our craft cocktails immensely. The fried oysters were outstanding — can I say melt in your mouth? The salad was just a salad and my fried green tomatoes were far too salty. I have much better else where. The special scallops were delicious and the shrimp and grits outstanding. The crème brûlée was a sad comment on a wonderful meal. THESHECRABSOUPISTHEBESTWEEVERHAD!

I went for brunch which is a buffet($ 19). When we arrived there were only 3 tables full but there were many, many people waiting to be seated. They were oddly very slow in seating people. There’s a buffet with continental items, breakfast and lunch fare, a carving station, omelet station and a dessert buffet. There was plenty of food for all tastes whether you wanted lunch of breakfast fare. On the table was a sheet of paper and pencils for everyone to build their own Bloody Mary(from $ 6 depending on alcohol type) or Mimosa. You could choose either Prosecco or champagne for the Mimosa and then opt either for Orange or another fruit juice. You could also choose a fruit garnish. For the Bloodies you could choose from 4 vodkas and then from 3 mixes, one of which was a Soby’s Signature. You could then pick your salt and up to 3 veg. The Signature mixer was great. I normally don’t love Bloodies, but I quickly downed this one and ordered another. The buffet food was good. I liked the French Toast, though my first helping had a hair in it whether from the toast, plate or syrup I’m not sure. In addition to maple syrup there was a good orange flavored syrup with bananas in it. I also liked the various cold salads from the lunch section. The server we had was on top of things. She cleared plates often and offered more drinks. When we first sat down she told us where the various buffets were set up at and what was on them. I thought the price was quite fair for the copious offerings especially when compared to comparable fare at hotels.

I came here for only dessert and a glass of wine. The dessert special I got was so delicious that I ate every single bite. passion fruit sorbet on top of a braised apple, peach honey baklava, and crème brûlée. It should definitely be a main-stay on the menu for a bit. Service at the bar was top-notch. I’ll definitely be back for dinner soon.

My boyfriend and I decided to try Sobys because everyone raves about it. We went for dinner on a Tuesday and were able to be seated right away. We ordered 2 glasses of the wine special of that night, a Pinot noir from Oregon. As appetizers we ordered a tomato soup and vegetable fries. The tomato soup was extremely bland but the vegetable fries were good. The«fries» were served with goat feta and pepper jam and the combination of the 3 was delicious. For my entrée I ordered the crab cakes and my boyfriend ordered the duck. My crab cakes were good(8⁄10) but soo over priced. It was two little crab cakes served with corn, green beans, and mashed potatoes and cost $ 26. My boyfriend enjoyed his duck and said the meat was good but the skin wasn’t as crispy as he liked and the sauce was a bit too sweet — he might be used to the Bavarian style duck though. Overall I thought the experience was ok. The meal ended up being over a hundred dollars so I think the food should be a bit better. We really enjoyed our wine and the service was fantastic, so there’s that. The location is also really nice although there’s not a lot of parking(expected when you’re downtown).

A friend and I stumbled in here Friday night while on a self-guided bar crawl of Greenville. The restaurant was packed and we made our way up to the bar to order a moscow mule(recommended!). Having been to a few bars before this one, we decided it would be wise to put some food in our bellies. Lo and behold, it was restaurant week! We split a $ 303-course dinner plus a wine pairing for each of us. Butternut squash veggie fries — meh– the batter crumbled off of the fries easily. Crab cakes –yes– we devoured these the instant they hit they table. The Nutella cheesecake with Frangelico chocolate sauce — get it. Service was friendly and fun, the ambiance was cozy and romantic. Overall, a good meal. Now, on to the next bar!

Food poisoned and disappointed… 12÷15÷15 Our order: Apps: Fried Green tomatoes and Pimento Cheese Main Entrée: Split the pork tenderloin cooked to the servers recommendation. Dessert: Banana cream pie Service: Soup was awesome! Our drinks came out quickly, he checked on us frequently and brought the food out quickly. The BAD!!! From what I could tell from the smell of my vomit and explosive diarrhea, the pork was not good. We ate dinner about 6(i had ¾ of a pork medallion!!!), got home about 7 and went to bed about 8. I was woken up at 9pm with a severe stomach pain and a feeling of a brick in my stomach. I then tossed and turned for 30 minutes followed by about 3 hours of praying to the porcelain gods! I then got 30 minutes of sleep followed by multiple trips to the toilet for explosive diarrhea. This lasted on and off for 4 hours. Halfway through this round I had to call of work costing me a full days worth of pay. Now, how do I know it was the pork… hahaha let me tell you. Both my emesis and the liquid evacuation out the backside I had smelled EXACTLYLIKETHATPORK I HAD!!! The mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes, I was reassured by Soup they were not. The broccoli thing that was on the plate seemed more like a garnish, then something to be consumed, because it was barely steamed. To add insult to injury I paid 77 $ for this experience! and to describe this as a reaction i had to food would be incorrect. Remember I split this entrée!!! The other half of the order also had issues. Needless to say I fed the trash can at 2 am of the left overs. The only good with the food was the fried green tomatoes. Those were delicious but also can’t be trusted. The pimento cheese was raved about from the server but it was just pimento cheese dip nothing special to write about.

What an AWESOME Sunday Brunch for under $ 20 per person! We had reservations(12 people) and they were ready and waiting for us! Valet parking(I HATE to pay for parking!) but some things cannot be helped – we were in the middle of downtown Greenville! I’m not a drinker but the others at the table who ordered from the Bloody Mary and Mimosa menu were raving. The food was varied and plentiful! I tried to sample everything: my egg-white omelet was cooked to perfection at the omelet station – the cook was a whiz, running 4 omelets at a time! The shrimp and grits were okay – I’ve had better but I must confess that I didn’t leave any on my plate! I tasted the casseroles, salads, and all of the breakfast extras(bacon, sausage, biscuits, etc) and all were good. The desserts were a hit with all of us. Such variety and cleverly done in mini servings so that you could sample a lot of different things and not gorge yourself. Yes, a lot of buffet places could learn a lot from Soby’s…put it on your list if you visit Greenville, South Carolina!

Everything was great. From the crab spup, to table bread to entrees and finally the dessert. If i had to complain it would be i wished the mash potatoes had a slight different flavor. Not to say they werent good. Just would have put it over top for me. Glad we stopped by.
