Called ahead to see if there was a wait, and the person on the phone, told us that it would be an hour wait. We walked in just to see if it was busy, and I got a table right away. Literally no wait at all. Sat down, waited 10 minutes, finally had the server bring us some water. He walked away before we could even get a drink order. He came back, 5 minutes later, to ask what we wanted to drink. I wanted Cabernet, and the first words out of his mouth were«oh well we may not even have that, it was a busy weekend so ya know stuff runs out, but I’ll check.» I just stared at him, and then shook it off and asked what he recommended between the duck and veal, as in what was more popular. His reply was, «well I mean I would do the veal.» I asked why? He said, «oh well it’s on the specials so it seems like the better choice.» Against my better judgement, I ordered the veal. He was supposed to check on the Cabernet to see if any was«left» but never returned for 15 minutes, so we left. The saddest part was that the menu looks delicious. Word of advice to the owner. Hire a staff who A. Is pleasant, B. Knows how to talk to guests, and C. Comes to the table accordingly and knows what wines are on the menu. We will NOT be back.

Come here for 2 things: cocktails and brunch. They do make pretty dang good cocktails, most are $ 10 each. The brunch menu is decently priced and great quality. I had shrimp and grit and my friends ordered various items and they all liked it. I also had dinner here one time, slightly overpriced for Greenville and small portions.

This is the most amazing restaurant in Greenville, some may call it heaven when I win the service was phenomenal the food was breathtaking I could even put on my fourth until that all the bar was a great scene bloody young and older folks that were great times. The waitstaff was very helpful and attentive and even with my complicated orders, which I always do, they still seem to get a ride every time I visit if you’re ever in Greenville or local folk this is what I recommend to be.

A little too pricy for me but the best burger in town is here. It’s reassuring to know they participate in the farm to table movement and boy you can tell. The quality of the patty was remarkable. Cooked just how I like it. The accompanying tomato was juicy. But the bell of the ball was the homemade aioli. Dear lord that was delicious. I ended up getting 2 extra sides of it to dunk my fries and smear all over the top of the bun! Ya the burger is out of this world. The drinks are fantastic and good selection of beer! Great place for a quiet date. And if you sit in the back facing Evans St., the décor is crazy! A staple of Greenville!

I came here for brunch with my fiancé after having heard about how awesome the food is, and I was severely underwhelmed. I ordered a banana french toast, and the bananas must’ve been green because they were mostly sour, and the french toast was not really french toast, more like bread with a thin coating of egg batter. French toast is supposed to be made with bread — the drier the better — and you let it SOAK, so when you cook it, the consistency is more like custard. My fiancé’s eggs benedict seemed ok, but overall definitely not worth the price of the meal. Only reason I give it a 3 is because of the service, but if it were strictly on taste/value, I’d give it a 2.

The the theme of great food but incredibly poor service continues here. I keep hoping that one day, I’ll have an experience that changes my mind about the service since the food is definitely the best in Greenville but today was definitely not the day for that. My entrée was very good last night(garlic fried duck confit) though the side dish(blackened potato salad) was weird and overly salty. The problems cane when it was time to pay the bill. Their system went down and we were stuck waiting for 20 – 39 mins. Now thats not necessarily the restaurant’s fault but typically when something like that happens, the restaurant will either discount your bill or offer you something like a complementary drink or dessert while waiting. None of that here! We weren’t even really kept informed about how the situation was progressing for a long time. A restaurant with prices as high as this one needs to to better!

I am giving this place 3 stars only for the bartender Jimmy. He makes the best cocktails in Greenville and is excellent! The restaurant — I could take it or leave it. The food is hit or miss, used to be better a few years ago. Waitresses all very sweet. Honestly brunch is probably the best meal they serve. Dinner is overpriced for the quality and thoughtfulness. Wine list is mundane. Used to serve Saint Hilaire Cremant which is worth drinking, but of course they took they took that off the menu! But go there for cocktails because Jimmy will not disappoint you.

went there for my birthday dinner with about six people, the owner(white haired large man) seemed to be crazy. I think he was confused about who we were and confronted us saying«this is the first time your husband has ever bothered to come in». He seemed very angry and unfriendly and glared at us through most of my birthday meal. We have heard other similar stories about strange behavior there and we never returned.

Top restaurant in greenville — gald they changed the wines by the glass up a bit, I mean I can only see Hey Mambo on the list for so long.

NOT tourist-friendly! I came to town from New Jersey for a multi-day music festival being held in nearby bars, and my new friends were all raving about how great the food here was. So I was hyped up to try this seemingly wonderful restaurant, but twice I went in and was not able to get served. First night I went in around 9pm on a Thursday night, with a friend; they said their kitchen had closed half an hour before, but on Fridays it would be open until 10pm. So I tried again the next night, showing up alone at about 7:30. This time, they said that they were too busy to seat me, asking me to try back in about 15 minutes. HOWEVER there were clearly empty tables, with about half the tables free. So, I felt clearly they weren’t interested in serving me, and I will not be back. Sorry, Starlight Café, but you lost a chance to sell an easy $ 30 entrée to this out-of-towner!

Friendly service and great food with local ingredients. I love their beer and wine list and cocktail program too, these folks get it and do an amazing job.

The overall atmosphere of this restaurant is pretty awesome considering it’s in Greenville, NC. The beer and wine were good and the waitress was excellent. However, when entering the restaurant we immediately noticed it’s awkward standing there waiting for the hostess. Eventually the hostess sat us and all was well. The menu offers many different choices, we went with the Bison and the Steak Frites. The Bison was very tasty, but the steak was over cooked and dry. At the end of the day, pretty good place to stop by for dinner.

The food was pretty good, though I dont feel that it meant the prices that were set for it. I ordered Poutine, which is a canadian pub food that I have never tried before. It essentially is fries with chicken gravy, cheese and eggs on top. Overall, I enjoyed the meal. My main problem was the overall duration of my group being in the restaurant. We, a group of 6, arrived during prime Brunch hours so we expected a wait. I put my name on a list and we were seated roughly 30 minutes later. No problem there. What bothers me is that we all ordered basic brunch items(shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, etc) and it took ALMOSTANHOUR to get our food. As we sat there waiting I watched at least 4 other groups that had come in after us be seated, order, eat and pay before ever taking a bite my self. I understand we had a slightly larger than normal group but an hour!!! Never once did our server give us an update as to what was taking so long or even acknowledge the long wait. By the time we left there was only two other tables eating so I have a hard time believing that influx of customers caused the extended wait. The complete time spent in the restaurant was 2+ hours. If the service had been better I think I would have considered going back because I really did like the poutine, but I think I’ll just try somewhere else next time.

This location is really great, building is charming and ambience is kinda hipster. Drinks were very inventive and strong, though pricey. Service is very good, quiet without ignoring and subtle while also prudent. Food, well it just falls short. Eaten here twice, first time got a nice buzz so I just signed the check(and thought, whatever at least I’m almost drunk). Second time, $ 31 for a Old Fashioned and some oily soba noodles with mushrooms(Granted oyster and shiitake are good ones). Starlight just doesn’t deliver on food quality relative to Benjamin’s. That said, it’s Greenville, NC so maybe expectations should be relative.

Was excited to try this place but was left quite underwhelmed. Extremely slow and weird service. And food was okay but nothing to rave about. Also, I’ve got to say, their prices are comical. No entrée here is worth over $ 20 lol trust me.

I tasted their food twice at community events and thought it was very good so my husband, son, and I went to the restaurant for my birthday lunch. It was a huge disappointment. We ordered a burger and a sandwich that were both much worse than what we typically make at home, prices were fairly high for lunch, and the service was VERY slow. Also, one of the servers had brought her child to work with her, and the child was constantly running around and interrupting diners. Ironically, when I asked if they had a high chair for my son, they said«no, we don’t really expect children to be here» then suggested I bring in his car seat and put that ONTHEFLOOR. No, thank you. I will NEVER return.

I am from Miami and my associate who was with me on business is from Paris, FR. We have been here for a week and all we can find has been corporate franchises, until now. This was an awesome dinner and we look forward to eating here again once more before we leave town!

We came here for lunch and I have to admit, I was a bit surprised by the menu. It seemed more appropriate to Asheville or Berkeley than Greenville. However, don’t let that stop you. The food is very good. All of the ingredients were fresh and well prepared. Two of us went with the Beef Bun Bo sandwich which was excellent. It was vaguely reminiscent of Vietnamese Banh Mi. Another member of our party had the Shrimp Bun Bo salad which she felt was also excellent, although she did leave feeling hungry. Rounding out the meal were a BLT and a Starlight Burger both of which were deemed more than acceptable. Being that we were on lunch from work, we did not sample anything from the bar, but what we did see of the bar menu, we were intrigued. The only downside to the experience was the service. The kitchen was very slow. It took over 35 minutes for our entrees to be served — fine for a leisurely dinner, but not that good for lunch on a work day. Be sure to check their website before going as they are not open every day of the week.

This is a sweet little place to have a cute little brunch… I had the french toast with the raspberry butter and it was like having a little bit of heaven the raspbutter was the most intresting part the sweet and tangy fruit with the salty creamy butter paired with the hot toast and the cold cream it was just delicious. My friend had the chicken and waffle dish I wasnt sure how I was going to feel about a cheese waffle rather than a traditional sweet one. It wasnt my absolute favorite but the flavor earned respect and its own merit! The Starlight Mimosa is one of the best mimosas I have had in a while it is like have a tasty adult orange soda! The Corpse Reviver is also very VERY good the Pernod Absinthe really takes this drink to a whole new level. Easily one of the best places to get a meal in greenville! xoxo

First time at Starlight during lunch. I wonder if it was a sous chef taking over. Our dishes were accompanied by pom frit or Belgium fries. They were a little burned and soggy. They were also served with ketchup. We had to ask for mayo. Come on now– it’s Belgium frite! I got the fried green tomato sandwich, which was quite lackluster. The Caribbean squash soup was quite tasty but found it interesting that the waitress didn’t know what the ingredients were before ordering it. The salad was spicy and probably the best dish. Service was spotty. Our water glasses went dry, on the person who ordered ice tea was refilled. I like Starlight, but maybe only for dinner…
