I so wanted to love this place, but it just did not do anything for me. The food was average, the service was okay, but it was so loud, it made it almost impossible to have a decent conversation. I felt very crowded and uncomfortable. When the food finally made it to the table it was cold and lacking the flavors that I so craved. I even told the server that the flood was bland and cold, not that it seemed to matter. However, this was my first time at Le Penguin and I may decide to give it another chance because it does have some good reviews. We’ll see!

Unfortunately this was our first time going here and will be our last. After nice, but nothing special, appetizers we had to wait 40 minutes for our dinner with not so much as a sorry. When we asked, they clearly had forgotten about us. My husband had the lamb and said it was the worst he had ever had. I have to agree. I tasted it too. I am not a fan of lamb partly because of the strong flavor. This had no flavour and was tough, even though he wanted it medium rare. Shame to not enjoy a 200 dollar meal.

Should be re-named Le Sardine Bistro. We were seated on a table for two about 5 inches away from our neighbors on either side of us. Literally knocking elbows with them. They are trying to cram too many tables in the small space. We asked for another table and were told that they were fully booked and couldn’t move us. As we went to leave the restaurant, the manager approached us and said that another table has just become available. Whilst we appreciated the offer, his whole manner was very defensive and we simply felt uncomfortable. We left and went elsewhere. What a disappointment.

Charming, fun atmosphere. Great food. I have been there a few times and the fish dishes are always cooked to perfection. The house red was also delicious. Nice waiters which also made the difference. I would request not sitting next to the kitchen.

Impeccable service. Great daily specials. Dishes are consistently excellent. Great atmosphere and fun for a birthday celebration. Great music but gets a bit noisy in the evening. Best place in greenwich for a relaxing lunch and a fun restaurant for diner. Have been going for years and it never disappoints.

First visit, first impression: Nice place. The service was adequately attentive without being obtrusive. Décor was welcoming. Parking was adequate(metered lot behind the establishment). Food was delicious, and the pricing was competitive. We had the pâté appetizer, my husband had the moules-frites and I had the cajun chicken. All delicious, and the fries were perfect. I definitely want to visit again.

This is agreat spot to eat a delicious meal with your friends or family. I especially like to celebrate a friend’s birthday here because they play appropriate pop birthday music over the speakers for everyone to join in. Such fun! Service is very attentive and the food is delicious! We have enjoyed such bistro classics as steak frites, escargots, and frois gras and not been disappointed.

Don’t understand the attraction. Always noisy, service poor and host is obnoxious. The food is just average and is nothing special. Should not last much longer.

Charming french restaurant with delectable food! The escargot was light and tasty – if you think you don’t like escargot, try them here. Really enjoyed the salmon which was cooked and seasoned to perfection. We had a lovely burgundy to drink. Staff is on point and very attentive to detail. I first met the owner, Antoine, when he managed Opia in midtown. He cares about quality and it shows! Overall, just a lovely spot that is great for a warm, delicious meal with those you love. Will definitely be coming back.

I just moved to stamford the other day and this was my first experience going out to dinner in the area. I must say, I was a bit let down. The overall experience was not horrible, but it was not great either. The service was quite inattentive and the food was OK, not great. To start we had two glasses of champagne, which was quick easy and delicious. Afterword I wanted to try the Sancerre, and it took quite a while to get this taste of wine. I eventually chose a red to go with the hangar steak I ordered for my entrée, more about that later. For an appetizer I had the tuna tartare and my husband had the escargot. Unfortunately, the way I ordered it wasn’t the way it came out and we got our mussels first and about one minute later the appetizers came, the tables are very small here and it was quite an ordeal to get everything on the table, never mind the fact that we ordered it in separate courses specifically as well as giving them the order that we would have liked it. I ordered butter for my bread no less then eight times and the glass of red wine that I ordered when the entrees arrived did not arrive until I was on my last bite of my entrée. My husband ordered the fillet and I had the hanger steak, his steak was like butter and very delicious, my hanger steak was tough as leather and really not edible, I ate about half the portion of the steak even though it was tough because I did not want to wait for a new meal. I ordered dessert to go which was delicious as was my cappuccino which I order decaf, and it actually came decaf which is always wonderful. Overall, I think three stars is a very fair rating, though with the $ 11 price adjustment for the steak our bill came to 181+ tip, kind of expensive for a very mediocre meal.

We started with the charcuterie plate which was fabulous! My boyfriend and I loved the different options. I am not a big red meat eater but I thoroughly enjoyed the plate. The pickled sweet onions were out of this world. We then got the mussels and escargot. Mussels were large and pretty tasty but could have used more flavor. Escargot was delicious but the mini pastry on top detracted from the delicacy of the snails. My boyfriend got the hanger steak with truffle fries which was delicious! I got the scallops and was served 4 scallops with a huge side of some sort of coleslaw. The dish was $ 29 and I definitely did not feel like I got my money’s worth. Overall a cute venue with a reasonable wine list. Cute date night restaurant but decent food overall.

If you love Balthazar or Pastis(now closed) in the city you’ll really enjoy Le Penguin. Nice ambience, admittedly small, but very cozy and good for 2 people or a small group. I went with a girlfriend on a Sunday morning and we shared some dishes. We tried and enjoyed: escargot, steak tartare, pomme frites and tart tatine. There were also some interesting specials up on the board. The story behind why it is called Le Penguin is very cute, ask the waiter if you go. Giving this restaurant 5 stars because it’s a great find in Connecticut. If it was in NYC I would probably give it 4 stars. I will be back!

Shocked at the rushed service I received while hosting clients. This should have been fine dining but was far from it Never was the wine poured. When I arrived I was not offered a drink. My guests were still eating and the waiter attempted to remove the plates. My salmon was lukewarm and mashed potatoes cold. A check of close to 400.00 and the host or whatever he was did not even say thank you. I certainly will never return and of course this establishment could care less as they are packed. Rest on your laurels with this type of service it will soon catch up with you. The restaurant at 6 when I arrived was empty and the staff was standing back to the dining room talking. I tried to get someone’s attention and finally had to say… can I get some service? Fell like I was totally mistreated. Never again.

The food is great. The wine list is more than appropriate. The service is way above par. The overall all value is out right outstanding! The only reason we don’t give them 5 stars(We don’t know how to give 4 ½ stars) is that it is hard to get a reservation and that they don’t know how to be diplomatic about it. They will learn, and so, they will then become a Greenwich icon.

Lunch at le Penguin today — the first day of Greenwich restaurant week. Pros — escargot were perfectly cooked, plenty of butter and garlic. Yummy. My entrée was Cajun chicken and frite — well cooked, enjoyable sauce. Cons — Cajun seems to be a signature spicing style — my last visit I had Cajun scallops. Not so French. And it is sooooo loud in there. Wow. Dessert was Tarte Tartin — acceptable — cappuccino etc. Sparkling rose was a nice touch. Overall — enjoyable and I will go back. Just have to remember — no more Cajun !

Food and service were exceptional. I had the tuna tartare appetizer and the red snapper for my main course. When the restaurant is full, it is loud. But conversation was possible. It was my birthday and the fuss they made was great. So was the ice cream and apple tart dessert. I will go back frequently.

I’ve been to Le Penguin a few times now and it has been consistently great. WHAT I LOVE: Authentic and delicious French comfort food. They do a nice job for Birthday dinners. The décor is unique and really fun. The mussels with saffron! CONS: Small and cozy space so if you’re looking for a bar area to hang with friends, this is not your spot. Service is good but gets slow as the meal winds down and it’s time for the check. Need to make a reservation for dinner.
