This rating is for the in-store warehouse sale. The store itself should probably get a 4 star rating(my beau and I plan on getting our dishware from here not only because its sustainably handmade in America but because its white dishware that is interesting in the shapes we love). Its your typical high-end store with beautiful, uncluttered displays that work hard to sell a life-style of refined simplicity. Back to the sale! We went on Saturday. The weather was awful for traveling but we had checked out the seconds sale online and anticipated the same pottery and glassware in the stores. The website said, «Save 40−60% on select glass and pottery online and at select locations.» There was absolutely no indication that the stock in-store would be different than the stock sold on-line. Normally, I walk into an SP store and take a giant sigh of relief because I’m reminded why I love the pottery so much and why I am willing to pay *four times* the price of our ‘runner-up’ at Williams Sonoma. That is right folks, if you think Williams-Sonoma is expensive then this place will knock your socks off. This is why I wanted to find pieces at the warehouse sale to slowly build up my collection. Why did I not get my giant sigh of relief? Because the first thing I noticed upon walking into the sale area was that there was no pottery! We had just wasted 1.5 hours coming down the coast-line for absolutely nothing! And with traffic mounting, it took another two hours to get home. It was a beyond dissappointing experience. Unfortunately it has left a sour taste in my mouth for the company. I understand that this sale isn’t exactly a large profit-producer for Simon Pearce but when you spend half of your day trying to allocate your limited finances(still have student loans + beau is in school getting grad degree) to support local, sustainable businesses the disappointment is frustrating.
