All the riders looked to be enjoying themselves. Costumes were unique and colourful. Chief and princess looked amazing!

Vibrant costumes! We caught many beads! Great parade to see on the first weekend of Mardi Gras! Family friendly parade. The floats were mixed with males, females, and kids.

It’s 2014 and a Mardi Gras krewe is still using red face on purpose every year. Anything I write after this fact is pretty superfluous, but I’ll fill in some details in case you actually want to participate in the racist spectacle that is this the Krewe of Choctaw: — average throws for a first weekend parade. — good mix of older and younger riders. — some cool themed floats, but the riders were in red face which kind of spoils things. — low enthusiasm compared to some of the other really pumped first weekend krewes.(I’m looking at you, King Arthur!) — lots of riding groups with very few silly dance groups. Recommended beer: Taaka Vodka, which is neither beer nor fit for human consumption.

Choctaw is another parade that originally paraded in another part of town but now is on the standard uptown route. As it is 80+ years old, no one thought about the name being controversial in the 1930s(Choctaws were in Louisiana). BUT the dudes need to stop painting their faces with red face. It seems a bit bizarre in 2014. I do like that this parade has a ton of horse groups(cowboys, uniforms and«indian» dress); it’s always fun to see all the pretty horses. Throws are not super plentiful and the floats are the rented sort, but it’s still a solid 1st weekend parade.
