Zatarains

Is there anything better than Zatarain’s? Probably there is SOMETHING better, but you have to pay an arm and a leg at some fancy New Orleans restaurant to get it. The awesome thing about Zatarain’s is that even if you have no idea what you are doing in the kitchen, you can cook this stuff and it will taste amazing.
They sell a lot of «instant» dinner mixes, but I think that my two favorites are the jambalaya and the dirty rice mix. They are awesome! When it comes to the jambalaya, all you have to do is add some sausage, seafood or chicken to it and spice it to taste and you are all set. It’s so easy, that really anyone can do it.
Like John, I am also a fan of the creole mustard, especially on sandwiches. I also really like the Zatarain’s creole seasoning which goes great on everything. I remember when I was in high school people used to douse the bland cafeteria fries with Zatarain’s in order to add a little flavor to them.
You also can’t go wrong with their famous crab boil. Zatarain’s crab boil is pretty much the «go to» crab boil for everyone that I know. I
If you are in the mood for Louisiana flavor then look no further than Zatarain’s. I know it sounds like I’m doing some sort of commercial, but I really like this stuff!

Zatarain’s makes even bad chefs seem like geniuses.
The prepackaged mixes contain nearly everything you need to make a genuine Cajun or Creole meal. Their boiling seasonings are necessary for any real seafood boil. Their fish fry is the only way to fry speckled trout. Need I go on?
The mixes have great directions and the jambalaya is particularly good. I am also very fond of the Creole mustard. Its not for wimps who normally use Dijon, but for the true connoisseur.
Located in Gretna, this location is not a retail establishment, but you will see their trucks lined up at all hours making deliveries and loading up product.

Before they were a National brand with irritating ads, Zatarain’s was a local spice company. No crawfish or crab boil was ever complete with out their seasoning. And even now if I have a choice between another brand and Zatarain’s for spices at the grocery? Z’s it is.
Another Zatarain essential? Creole mustard. Seriously good.
