Food was great, service was fantastic, and beer was cold and at the ready. Really couldn’t have asked for more! The owner came and talked to us, and although kind of gruff, was a nice guy. The sandwiches were great, and out of the kitchen quickly! I was impressed after reading the wait times here. Great experience!

I wish there was a zero star option. Not a good place for drinks. One bartender, who is very rude. Didn’t wash glasses between uses. Just the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. We were in town for a wedding, so the bridal party wanted to go out and we were treated with such disdain, probably because the bartender had never had to actually serve more than 5 people before. They missed out on a whole lot of business that night, sucks for them. Ended up leaving after an hour and went around the corner to a place called Underground at Canary, and it was 1,000 times better.

We were just run off by the bartender for asking him to change the TV to a football game. I travel all over this country and have never seen a more unprofessional person in my life. It’s no wonder there was a total 2 people in the place. What a joke! I have never, never been treated this way, ever. I normally like going to local places like this when I travel, but not this one! Save yourself the trouble, look elsewhere!

My experience here was unprofessional at best! Our bartender was rude and treated us like we were unwelcome sitting at his bar. The good news is we left with no incident and did not spend our money in this establishment. As an owner of 2 businesses in my time, I can tell you this business is on a quick path to closing its doors

Loved the food. The service was slow and impersonal. Still writes go back, but only if I have a lot of time.

A basic pub, decent eats, average environment & service. I was already in town, wouldn’t make the trip off of I80.

Stopped in on our way to Illinois and it hit the spot. Corned beef on the Reuben was a little skimpy, but the fried Gouda cheese curds were great! Nice craft beer selection, too.

Terrible. Service is awful and can find better food at a gas station. Very dirty carpet, and kitchen staff don’t follow health guidelines. Been there twice, will never be back.

Went here for lunch during the week. The food here has always been excellent. I order a Califormia Burger with Tater Tots. I love that they have Tots as an option. The sweet potato fries are excellent with the dipping sauces. The only thing that keeps me from rating this higher is the service. The service during the lunch hour is tradionally slow. I have been here many times for lunch and it always takes a long time to get waited on, get refills, and get the bill. When I am rushed at lunch time to get back to the office, it is hard to pick this place as an option because I always know lunch will take twice as long as other places.

Was a little ways off I-80 but was definitely worth it. Casual, relaxed atmosphere and GREAT food! Would definitely recommend it.

Haven’t been there for pubbing, but I was there for lunch recently. The food is good, and the service is good. They have a wide variety of burgers, and they do have veggie burgers. I wouldn’t describe it as exceptional, but it’s above average for pubs from the perspective of both variety and taste. From what I can tell, their soups are also above-average when it comes to taste and variety. They have gouda mac bites AND cheddar mac bites. Woah. The side of waffle fries with my burger was pretty skimpy(I got literally 1 actual waffle fry and a half-handful of bits and pieces), BUT, I did ask for extra sprouts(they have sprouts!!), and they happily obliged. Mixed review, right? That’s about how I feel about it.

Awesome beer selection and are very good with allergy substitutions. Very friendly and have great food recommendations. We stop by here at least once each time we visit

Great variety of beers on tap. Lonnski’s is ideal for family dining & beer lovers alike. Its atmosphere is somewhat of a cross between a hippie haunt & a traditional(Chicago/Iowa Hawkeyes fans’) sports bar. Lonnski’s has the best burgers in Grinnell, and they often have delicious soups as well. There are great booths for small-group seating, and there is a gameroom in back to keep the kids busy. Our rugby club has all of its socials at Lonnski’s, so they’re more than capable of handling big groups at table seating areas. If you’re visiting town or passing through, I recommend you stop in and have a pint – it’s one of the best places to get some local color(culture) in Grinnell.

This is my favorite place to eat in Grinnell. Everything is good whether you want a healthy option or something a little greasier.

Being a Grinnell alumnus, I can say whole heartedly that Lonnskis is the cream of the crop in Grinnell. After four years living there, and nearly as many away, it is the first place that comes to mind when I’m stopping through town. Highlights: — Tater Tots on the menu rather than fries — California Turkey Club to die for — Good beer selection(for a college town) — Employer of lots of students, showing support for gown-town interactions — Friendly staff — Sweet potato fries with hot sauce and sugar… Lonn’s turned me on to it, and I haven’t found a place so good since. I cannot understate that this is my favorite place in the town now. Additionally, the move to the new location gives lots more options for large parties and family friendly dining. Lonn’s doing great work here, and everyone should go enjoy it.

The only place in town with a decent beer selection, good atmosphere, and great people. That about sums up Lonnski’s. We wish there was a bit more to their dinner menu and appetizer selection. And they could do more in the way of vegetarian options beyond the black bean burger for sure. Overall though, it’s a great place to grab a bite and a drink!

Lonnski’s is the dictionary definition of no frills hang-out spot to pull up a chair and have a drink. They have a slowly-changing variety of beers on tap that usually includes some interesting regional options, and service that’s an irreproducible mix of upbeat and nonchalant. For food, burgers really seem to be the way to go here – including pretty good black bean burgers for vegetarians.(You can substitute a black bean patty for any of the burger options, not just the one that’s explicitly marked that way– in fact, everything about the burgers is very customizable, you just have to say which toppings you want.) The little token serving of tater tots is also a nice touch, though I have to admit, I usually sub sweet potato fries. As another reviewer pointed out, it’s probably not really a place you’ll head specifically for the food, but the offerings are just fine for being washed down by your beer.

This is the only ‘after hours’ place in Grinnell that 1. serves tasty(and many local) beers on draft 2. has a fun atmosphere 3. affordable and tasty menu of pub style /deli food I love that Lonnski’s changes their draft beer selection often and with local brews. Since relocating from their upstairs venue just north of their new location they’ve reached a whole new type of client — the family. Granted, this doesn’t mean much to me the single woman but I think it’s excellent that they can reach family, college students and locals alike depending on the time of day. What I love most? It stays open past 10PM and unlike other places in town, you don’t feel like you need a tetanus shot after leaving. The BBQ Bacon Gouda Burger is quite simply — fantastic.

A little tear wells up in my eye whenever I think of this place and its tot-filled, belligerent goodness. Oh, I miss you Lonnski’s and have not found anyone to replace you near or far. I miss your«angry hour,» your cheap-as-dirt Long Island Iced Teas, your jukebox, your delicious Pub Clubs, and your sketch-tastic/super-badass staff. If I return to Grinnell this summer, I am convinced that harps will play, the heavens will part, and angels will come down the first time I see you providing me shots of whiskey and visions of a bunch of drunk people yelling at Rupaul’s Drag Race. Praise Jesus, Praise Lon, Praise tots.

I have always endorsed the notion that Lonnski’s is a religious experience. Food is about the quality you would expect but the menu selection is pretty good. Mostly sandwiches, salads, soups. Occasionally burgers, although I can’t speak to those. Soups are generally decent. I am partial to the buffalo chicken, the veggie, and the California chicken club. Service is fast and friendly. The décor is somewhat eclectic, mostly framed vintage euro/french advertising posters and some other weird arty stuff. Very comfortable space– the bar area, in a separate room, is a bit darker, louder, and cozier, while the rest of the restaurant consists of small tables and booths and is a lot brighter. A nice mix. Great selection of liquor, and there are always several beers on tap, although I kind of wish they would switch off the New Belgium stuff once in awhile. My Lonnski’s obsession may have to do with the fact that it’s pretty cheap and a fifteen second walk from my apartment, but I still think it’s damn good.
