Not worth all the hype. The ice cream is full of air and not as creamy as when they first started out a few years back. Sorry to disappoint the brown cow is way better and near by and authentic cream ice cream.

The ice cream was amazing. It was a little pricy but totally worth it! The homemade waffle cones were absolutely delicious!!! Would definitely go there again if I lived in the area!

This place is awesome! We come here every year to support the Sunflowers for Wishes | Make-A-Wish event( ). Thanks to Buttonwoods, this is a great opportunity to support a fantastic charity while enjoying delicious ice cream among thousands of giant sunflowers(see photos). Definitely a must see & do, dates run July 23rd-31st this year.

Above average product but SO overpriced that can only award 2 stars. Would expect these prices in the city.

Peanut Butter with a waffle cone. Everytime. Worth the 50min drive from home. Huge scoops.

Good ice cream, love the scenery. I liked the rum raisin and chocolate the best. I did not love the pumpkin cheese cake, unpleasant texture. The rocky road was meh because but they don’t know how to do rocky road, just about no marshmallow in it. I sampled the apple crisp and that was good. They make their own waffle cones and they are really good.

Grossly overpriced. Pretty setting but hard to get to if you live outside the area and the prices are highway robbery.

Ice cream is very good but nothing spectacular. Very wide selection of flavors is a benefit. Tonight I ordered 2 scoops to try 2 flavors. When I got back to my campsite I discovered 1 scoop was not the flavor I asked for. I could understand the error if it had been a busy night. A little disappointed this visit.

The ice cream is very good, and the waffle cones are made fresh, the wonderful scents making the long lines hard to endure. They have a short season of sunflowers blooming in the summer, with wagon rides and such. It’s a wonderful time to visit. Staff quality may be lacking though. Made a phone call recently and the woman responded to my question with a surly remark and hung up before I could ask another.

Good ice cream, nothing special though(tried strawberry & salted caramel). Waffle cones were great — HUGE. I got 2 scoops and am sad to say that I couldn’t even finish the cone. Sunflower field is beautiful. Make sure it’s in bloom when you go if that’s the reason for your visit.

Amazing. Some of the best ice cream I’ve even had. The ice cream is top of the line. The employees are friendly and helpful. I ordered the brownie sundae that comes with two scoops of ice cream. More like two pints of ice cream! I had the maple walnut and chocolate with walnut and syrup with marshmallow sauce on it. I also had chocolate sprinkles on my whipped cream. It also came with a cherry on top. My eyes were clearly bigger than my stomach. I was not aware of the very generous portions. The whipped cream was very good and piled high. The extras were plentiful and also tasty. We sat in the Gazebo in the shade on this beautiful day and watched as more people arrived to partake in the wonderful ice cream treats. My wife had the waffle bowl sundae with strawberry cheesecake and cherry vanilla ice cream. The waffle bowl looked delicious but I wouldn’t know because she didn’t share with me! Highly unusual for her, she shares everything. It must have been too good. We took our time and chatted with the very friendly people sharing the gazebo with us. Even though we took our sweet time eating our sundaes I could not finish my entire chewy chunky brownie. I think a tear ran down my cheek when I had to toss it away into the trash can. We will take another ride out here soon.

Good ice cream, not great. Beautiful grounds. Superb waffle cones. The chocolate ice cream had some iciness to it and lacked the creaminess and depth of flavor of the superb chocolate ice cream from the UConn Dairy Bar. The almond coconut had very nice chocolate-covered almonds, but lacked a prominent coconut flavor. Others in our party reported vanilla and strawberry as both being OK, not exceptional. That’s not to say the ice cream wasn’t good or fresh, it just wasn’t exceptional despite being at the price point of a super-premium ice cream. Also, we thought the servings were a bit small. In my two scoop cone, for example, the scoop of chocolate was tiny. My waffle cone was delicious –flawless in taste and form.

So… Long story short… We came here for the sunflowers and ended up with ice cream. Apparently I didn’t do my research and they hadn’t bloomed yet. Epic fail on my part as far as the sunflowers go but the ice cream sweetened the blow. However, thankfully we hadn’t driven into the middle of nowhere for nothing! There were so many ice cream choices here I didn’t know what to choose. I eventually picked two and really enjoyed both flavors(graham and Butterfinger). My husband and friends enjoyed key lime cheesecake, black raspberry and mint chocolate chip ice cream. So as you can see just from our selections that their ice cream game is on point! Not only was there a great variety, but the ice cream was creamy and full of delicious flavor. I did inquire about the sunflowers and now that I know when they bloom, I’m looking forward to coming back to see them. July 18 of this year, if anyone is interested! The only downfall is the location is off the beaten path but to see the sunflowers and to try out some new ice cream flavors, it’ll be worth it.

Absolutely amazing ice cream. It is a must when visiting voluntown. This time around I had the peanut butter chip with cookie dough on a waffle cone. I really liked the peanut butter ice cream. The cookie dough was good, but could use a little more dough mixed in. My friend loves the peach. You will not be disappointed here! Eat it!

One of my favorite homemade ice cream places in all of Connecticut. The workers are friendly and pleasant and the ice cream was so delicious! I was served by a really nice girl named Veronica. She was attentive and friendly and really made the experience for me! She explained l the different kinds of ice cream, the prices, what toppings and how many I could get and really just knew her stuff. She made me feel welcomed and was just so kind. If you come here, look for her. She will brighten your day with smiles! As for the food, I had a sundae with chocolate brownie ice cream. The one scoop sundae comes with one liquid topping(I chose hot fudge) and a lot of whipped cream, nuts, sprinkles and a cherry. The whipped cream is freshly made and has to be the best I’ve had. The ice cream tasted so pure, you can definitely notice the difference between homemade and processed ice cream. For a little over 6 bucks, I’m happy. Surprised to see from other Unilocalers saying there are lines. There were only a few people when I went and even then, everyone was served quickly. I’m sure it’ll be busy when the sunflowers start to bloom. It was quite a drive from Hartford but definitely worth it! I’m coming back for sunflowers and to try the freshly made waffle cones.

Yummy stuff and the prices aren’t bad. Be prepared to wait if it’s a nice day. However, the line can be deceiving. It moves pretty fast for the most part. The ice cream, cones, ect. are all homemade. I watched the cones being made while I was waiting on my ice cream. Oh, and plenty of variety. It’s a cute and quaint location. Was worth the little drive for the experience. Might be heading back before the summer is over.

We got the white chocolate and cookies & cream milkshakes. Delicious! The farm is beautiful, parking ample and the staff was friendly.

My boyfriend drove 2.5 hours from NYC to make my dream of frolicking on a sunflower farm come true. That’s 4 acres of beautiful sunflower fields! We arrived at 11:45am on the opening day of Sunflowers for Wishes for the year(7÷19−7÷27÷2014). The parking lot was full so we had to park on the road(wasn’t a problem) and there was already a line forming for the ice cream and hayrides so we rushed to the hayride. For $ 5 a person, you can take the hayride(25 minutes) or cow ride(10 minutes). You need to pay for the ride underneath the white tent where you’ll be given gold tokens. The tractor drawn hayride takes you around the farm through the cow pastures and sunflower field. The seats aren’t actually made of hay. Someone came by and sprinkled fresh hay in the car so we can feed the cows. The tractor then stopped in the middle of the sunflower field so we may take photos. Absolutely gorgeous. The cow ride takes you around the sunflower field and there was a shorter wait for this option. A tractor pulls a set of small cow cars filled with joyful children and embarrassed parents. It was really sweet to see parents attempt to squeeze into the cars so they can share the moment with their children. You can also walk through the sunflower field for no cost. Take the extra time to capture some beautiful photos! We also purchased two sunflower bunches at $ 5 each. I packed a small picnic of snacks because I didn’t know if there would be any food to eat on the farm. I saw a lot of families snacking on chips and hot dogs that were sold along with tokens for the hayrides. I was very glad to have come prepared! Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to get ice cream before taking our 2.5 hour journey back home. By 1:30pm, the ice cream line looked 20 min long. I would have liked to try the seasonal sunflower ice cream which is made with their caramel ice cream with honey, sunflower seeds and almonds. Proceeds from Sunflowers for Wishes go to the Make the Wish Foundation of CT. I’d love to make this an annual trip if it weren’t so far from home.

Let’s get the price out of the way. yes, it’s pricey, but it’s GOOD! and local… and fresh… and pretty big! Ok, that’s over! This is a great establishment. I love the the ice cream. I love the sunflowers and the tractor rides. Great place for kids! Hands down. Great cause, plenty of parking. It’s no mystery this place is the«place to be» when it’s sunflower time!

After spending a day in Providence, the friend who was showing me around her world demanded a stop here. She claimed she was going to introduce me to a great ice cream place. The best ice cream place she had ever been too. We pulled into the parking lot, and it was quite scenic. Cute little building, the landscape was manicured beautifully, there was even a corn maze across the street. It was very scenic and rustic. Perfect ‘country’ setting. I could see myself spending many an hour here, simply breathing it all in. We walked up and stood in the back end of the line. All of their windows were open, so the line moved quite quickly, but as we had moved up, the line behind us was great. This is a good sign. the place is in the middle of no-where, and the line was 30 or 40 people deep. Good job Buttonwood Farm ice cream shop. I went with a two scoop Jungle George, in a cake cone, in a cup. Cake cone wasn’t as cakey as I thought. Cake coke is the term for those ‘styrofoam’ like cone, as opposed to the ‘cardbord’ like sugar cone, and the waffle cones. This place was very nice. A most welcome stop with a friend.
