First eating experience at Steak n Shake on my way back to Erie, PA. Not only was it clean… all the kids were professional and were busy working together. Service was very courteous and prompt. Our food was perfect!!! Hot and made just they way we ordered. Will definitely stop in again when passing thru!!! Now if only Erie’s was this nice… cause they definitely miss the mark here… smh.

Gosh, every steak and shake I travel to seems to get worse and worse. First, we were ignored for nearly 15 minutes while we waited for a table. When we were finally seated the waitress was dismissive and seemed irritated when she spoke to us. She got our drink order and then took another almost 15 minutes to return. The restaurant was only about 1⁄3 of the way full so this seemed insaine to me the food was barely warm and we had to all but beg to pay they check. This was the worst part. We waited up front at the register for another 10 minutes while they looked right at us and had a personal conversation before taking our payment. This was a nightmare. I won’t return.

My personal favorite burger joint on a budget. The prices are fair and the wait staff attentive most of the time. The fresco melt being in my opinion their crown jewel; the royal coming in at second. S&S stands higher then McDonald’s and Wendy’s and offers nearly similar price points for a sit down meal. The main price variance coming from tip. I would not however recommended stopping here if you are short on time.

My first visit to a Steak ‘n Shake was a pleasant surprise. I did not realize they offered table service. I thought they were similar to gourmet burger chains in my area such as Smashburger or BurgerFi where you ordered at the counter and the food was delivered. My second surprise was that a meal similar to what I would get at one of the previously mentioned chains was about 25% cheaper, and of similar quality. It could possibly be the quality and source of the ingredients(BurgerFi, for example, does tout the quality of its beef). The steaks — or rather, the burgers — are of a decent variety, most with toppings, sauces, and cheese — make that American Cheese(or is it processed cheese food? I don’t know). For that reason alone, I ordered the Guacamole burger because it came with Monterey Jack cheese. But the other person at my table ordered a different burger and asked for Swiss cheese, and he got it without an extra charge, so I assume that means free substitution even if not mentioned. The shakes — we ordered vanilla and banana. These were thick and tasty, though the banana shake clearly had some assistance from the natural and artificial flavor folks in New Jersey. The taste was reminiscent of Jell-o banana pudding. My vanilla shake had the flavor of vanilla beans, and I will rationalize that that flavor was due to actual vanilla beans and not New Jersey assistance. The fries, matchstick, were crisp, very slightly greasy, but otherwise good. It took quite a while for our meals to arrive. The restaurant was constantly full with a handful of people waiting for tables. But we had one of those firecracker, wise-cracking, waitresses who enjoyed chatting it up with her customers while delivering superb service, and that made the wait not so bad. I have no clue whether any Steak ‘n Shakes will open in upstate New York. They’d certainly make the burger competition in the area even more interesting.

It pains me to even give this place 1 star because it’s not worthy of it. We went on night shift and it’s completely staffed with teenagers. We waiting 10 minutes just to be seated and no one said anything to us during that first ten minutes even after I told them we needed a table. They were staffed adequately but they all stood behind the milkshake counter and chatted. Once seating our milkshakes came out after our food and after we told them twice we were missing them. No one refilled our drinks, we had to ask for a kids menu, boxes and to go cups, we asked for napkins and never got them. It was just awful service. After we left we noticed my husband had forgot his phone on the table. When we went back everyone denied ever seeing it even though the find my iPhone app clearly said it was still there. The manager didn’t help us what so ever, a worker got rude with us when we had been told by another customer that the worker had the phone and we only got helped once we threatened to call the cops, corporate and report them. RIDICULOUS! Do not waste your time or you money on this establishment.

Great for those middle of the night cravings! Only four stars because the inside hostess we had was snobby! Love their milkshakes!

This good review is based on service. Sunday is always bananas at any restaurant. Especially Steak N Shake. The wait staff stepped up their game today and kept hustling and smiling, even though the crowd was huge and demands were high. Good job. We appreciate the energy.

I had the frisco melt which was pretty tasty. I really like that the bread is toasted on the grill and buttery. Overall, S’nS is pretty good, cheap, and the kids seem to love it. The dining area at this location can get a little dirty.

I would have loved to eaten here… but after sitting in a booth for 10 minutes with my family and absolutely no interaction or acknowledgment… maybe another shot, but it was very dispointing

My experience at this location was near perfect. I came in with Carol C. for a late lunch on a rainy Wednesday. We were greeted and seated right away in a cozy booth. Since it was wet outside we opted for coffee. Steak ‘n Shake coffee is pretty good. The plan was to get cheeseburgers. We ordered the Royale: American cheese, bacon, fried egg, along with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. We also got the Bacon Horseradish burger: American, bacon, crunchy fried onions, and creamy horseradish mayo. This burger is on the $ 4 menu as a single, but they made it a double for me. The burgers came with fries, we also got a side salad, an order of onion rings, and a chocolate shake. Service was terrific. It could have been a training film for new Steak ‘n Shake employees. I like the burgers, I like the crispy edges and the toasted buns. The fries and onion rings were hot and fresh. The shake, impossible to suck through a straw when it arrived, was perfectly melted by the time I finished eating. Fast food euphoria. This was my first time trying a Steak ‘n Shake burger. It was delicious! This location deserves a better rating in my opinion. Four stars.

Place has improved since I went there a couple of weeks ago. When I went there it was bad. The waiter forgot everything it took over a hour for the food and longer to get the milkshakes and she got a attitude. I just left here for lunch and they wasn’t that busy as usual. The waiter had the milkshakes within 10 minute but a wait for the food, mine was good but the cheeseburger my mom had was gross and cold. This place usually messes up your order and you have to keep reminding them. I got the butterfinger milkshake and it was good, until I found hairs in it. Small little black hairs. Yuck after I almost finished it. Made me sick, I wish they didn’t hire such young teenagers to work here. That has No experience at all.

It takes for ever to get service unless you know one of the young teens that work there.

I have a co-worker who would eat at Steak N Shake for breakfast lunch and dinner if he lived near one. He raves about it so much, and makes a point to go straight to one when he travels to a city that has them(once or twice has even driven 3 hours just for dinner), I finally had to break down and go see what the fuss was about. The bacon burger(I know I’m not calling it by the official name) was good, but nothing special. The fries were good. I really like skinny fries, and theirs are skinnier than McDonald’s. And the strawberry shake was good until I got halfway through it. By that point, I regret eating every bite. It’s good for what it is, but it’s still fast food.

The first time we went, we had less than desirable service. It took a long time to even have our orders taken, and ridiculously long for the food to arrive. We decided to give them another try, though, and have loved this place ever since! Turns out we had a run-in with some trainees the first time around which, while it does not excuse the service, made us a little more forgiving. The quality of the food is great, and the restaurant is kept spick-and-span. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and rarely flub orders. If anything is wrong with your order, it is usually that they accidentally gave you a side of fries if you substituted them for something else, and they give you them free of charge. I can live with a mistake like that, though! Definitely stop by. The location is super convenient. We love to go here whenever we go out shopping at the neighboring Wal-Mart.

The food is tasty… when it eventually arrives. My friends and I were there around midnight on a friday, the place was empty. And it still took a long time for the food to arrive, and the shakes didnt arrive until after most of us were done eating. «We only have the one shake machine»…uh, poor planning on the restaurant design? Everyone gets shakes when they go there! All in all, if you want decent food but poor service, by all means go here.
