I frequented this theater almost weekly until a few months ago. Going to the movies is one of my favorite things to do and I use to enjoy Grove’s small theater. Unfortunately it has gotten to a point where seeing a movie here is a very frustrating experience. First and foremost, the staff does nothing to ensure that the people in the theater are respectful of other guests who are trying to watch a movie. I have seen movies where the people sitting behind me were louder than the theater surround sound. Then you have the people that are constantly on their phone. Also there is no checking of IDs so anytime you go see something Rated R, there are a bunch of kids alone who should not be in the movie that snuck in who are loud or act inappropriately. If you complain to staff members they will tell you they will check on it but usually they don’t even enter the theater. The other problem with the theater is it’s small size. I use to like that to an extent since it meant that there would be less crowd, but it also means less choices. The theater only has six screens and often they will be showing movies far longer than really necessary and not getting any of the new releases. The last major problem the theater has is it’s theaters. Two of the six are ‘nicer’ but the other four are very outdated and have uncomfortable seats, bad projection quality, and poor sound. If you are to watch a movie after opening week, you will most likely be seeing it in one of these outdated and uncomfortable theaters. The latter of the two problems I listed are something you can expect and deal with. Living in a small town you can’t expect the newest or best movie theater in the world. The problem of the noise and interruption during movies is totally unacceptable and could be easily corrected with a little involvement from the staff. Most theaters nowadays have a staff member randomly patrol through the theaters to check for these types of disruptions.
