I started an account here when I was 8 years old and have found some way (even out of state and out of the country) to maintain an account here. What I like about it is that you don’t have to maintain a huge account to have free services here.
The minimum balance for free savings is $ 50. That’s it. and for free checking, its $ 200 and if your checking balance falls below that its $ 2 a month for any month that your balance is below that. Not bad.
I also never have to take my bank card in if I’m just depositing money. All I need is my account number, the last 4 digits of my social security number and they’ll store my money away.
You can also add people to your account easily. When I moved abroad, I added my parents to my account with just a signature so that they could manage my finances if I wasn’t able to. They also assisted me in setting up my overseas banking account by writing me a reference letter to give to the banks over there.
