I have lived not far from here for a long time and finally got in to try it out. I have been missing out! Kat gave me one of the best haircuts I have had in a long time. Everyone was super friendly and professional. This is now my go to place for haircuts. I even got a straight razor shave while there and if you have never had one I would highly recommend it.

Never had a bad cut, love the atmosphere, no long wait times, Blake does a wonderful job, highly recommended.

I just got a hair cut and a beard «styling» from Vanessa and I love it. It was my first time at Bootleggers. I told her that I was looking for someone that would commit to cutting my hair on a regular basis and, of course, she agreed. I gave a little info about my past haircuts and she dove right in and cut my hair just like I wanted it. She trimmed my months-​old beard down to the perfect length with me only saying «Please, trim my beard.» I will definitely go back again and again. They also have a fun waiting area with games and conversation!

It you are looking for a cut or a shave in the Five Cities area then look no further than Bootleggers! I live right around the corner from the shop so it works well for me but I would drive for this type of service. My son and I come for cuts. Today I came in for my first ever shave. I had been away from my razor for 16 days so it was no easy task. The shave was closer than I have been able to achieve. If you have never had a professional shave then get in here.

This is a modern barber shop! Manly, but not caveman. My wife is happy to wait while I get a haircut and beard trim. Probably the most accessible wheelchair friendly shop I have ever visited. Thanks for the great service and work. One other great things… is they take credit cards and visa. More more running to the bank before I get a trim!!!

The service is always great at Bootleggers. They don’t talk your ear off, but they are open to conversation. Blake and Vanessa are awesome in how they interact with every person who comes in. Kids are made to feel grown-​up and that’s a big deal. My son and I both make a trek in here every 4 – 6 weeks and have always been treated well. Sometimes, there can be a bit of a wait, but you run that risk any time you visit a business that does its job well. The hot lather neck shave (with a straight edge!) and the massage are always a welcome treat!

Love this place. So clean and professional. I really enjoy the clean shave and massage. Waiting area is great and they are open on Sunday. But very busy.

Just moved to Shell Beach and was looking for that local barber. Highly recommended going here! Blake did a great job there was a small wait but definitely worth it.

With my male pattern baldness, there are only a few options to make me look decent. The most obvious ones, either a buzz cut or straight BIC, were my last choices. These guys made me look good without having to go full skinhead — and for that I am ever-​so thankful!

I dropped in for a hair cut on a Saturday morning. Having never been to a barber shop I didn’t know what to expect. Vanessa walked me right over to a chair, and we went over options for the cut. She was meticulous with the hair cut and gave me the confidence to go a little out of my comfort zone. The post cut neck shave was awesome. The neck massage was also fantastic.
I was impressed with everything about this haircut. It was a great experience. Next time I will get a hot shave done at the same time.

I have nothing but great things to say about this barber shop! My husband is in the military and I dragged him down here last Sunday for a family event forgetting he needed to get a haircut and this place was phenomenal! I was amazed at how friendly the staff was and how great of a job they did on my husband’s hair. He has never left a barber shop so happy! We wouldn’t definitely come to this barber shop every Sunday if they were near San Diego! A definite improvement from the haircuts my husband usually gets!

Had my 10 yr. old Son’s haircut today done by Vanessa. She was AWESOME!!! We just moved here from out of town, so went here based on Unilocal reviews and so glad we did. She got the haircut done right on the FIRST TIME! I am a very picky person when it comes to cuts. VERY impressed and she was super sweet and talked to him the whole time.
My Son told me he liked her and she wasn’t rough with his head, lol. He is a bit tender headed.
We will most definitely be back!!!

I have tried a number of places all over town and I must say I really like this place. When I go to supercuts I never quite know what I am going to get but here at bootleggers I know I will get a good cut. The guys working there are really friendly and easy to talk to which makes the experience much nicer.
Overall they may cost a little more but I think the quality and extra service is worth the price every time.

I’ve been going to this place for about six months now since I first moved to the Five Cities. Great little barber shop with friendly service, great cuts, and nice little perks. I originally stopped by the Barbers’ Guild, however they apparently don’t like to stay open during actual business hours, so I gave Bootleggers a try. Very glad I did.
I’ve gotten cuts from both Blake and Chris and they’ve both done great jobs. They will also rinse your hair, give you a hot shave (along the hairlines), and finish the cut off with a neat little shoulder massage machine.
A men’s haircut will set you back $ 20. I’m used to paying $ 8 for a haircut in LA and SD, but given the lack of options around the area, Bootlegger’s definitely gives you the most bang for your buck with a great cut and all the little extras.

Bootleggers is a great barber shop. It’s the kind of place that’s so great you’re torn between keeping it your top secret spot and telling everyone you know to go there. We want them to be successful, though, so we must share a review!
My husband has been happy with every cut he has received there. He’s a regular now. Blake and staff are laid back, fun to chat with, and good at what they do. They really focus on providing good, old-​fashioned service.

Cool people and I hope their shop is profitable. Felt like I was in a supercuts dressed as a barbershop. The haircut was okay, straight shave was nice, but ultimately, not really a barber shop. Strange clash of beauticians meets barber. Sterile environment, sinks for washing hair, but straight razors and an edgy feel.
I asked for a gentlemens cut, part on the side, tight in the back. I was asked what number I usually do, said #2. Well, I receive a flat #2 up the entire back and sides. No fade. They didn’t style at the shop so I didn’t realize until I got home, but there was little shape to the cut and my part wasn’t really possible.
As I previously said, nicest people who own it. I’d suggest trying them if you don’t have another place to go.

I have visited this shop 4 times. 3 times they were closed in the middle of the day. Must be making so much $$$ that they can just go home when ever the mood strikes them. *NOT* wasting the fuel to drive there anymore.
BTW… the one time they were open I did receive a good haircut but they still get one star from me for the inconvenience.

Original review: I showed up on Sunday, 10/​13, at 10:30am (within the business hours posted both here on Unilocal and on their window) and the shop was closed. No explanation, no sign, nothing. I left a message on their business line, but never received a call back.
I did eventually get an email response from Blake almost a month after this review, offering a free cut to try again. I’ll change from 1 star to 3 until I can visit again and comment on their actual service.

In from Seattle for a long spa weekend, today, I found myself cruising down Highway 1 in a convertible enjoying the sun and just happened to catch a glance of myself in the rear view mirror. Yikes. This mop needs a chop! Is it safe, though, so far away from my normal barber? Let’s see what Unilocal has to say about it?
Five Stars? Just a couple miles away in Grover Beach? Okay! Bring on the sexy. ;-)
Oh by did I luck out. Not only was the price fantastic, the haircut looks amazing. I had an entertaining 15 minutes (yep, only 15 minutes to beautiful at Bootleggers) speaking with Blake. Even though I pulled up in a rented convertible, they didn’t pre-​judge me as a douche bag I appeared to be.
So let’s repeat, shall we.
