I like it. The service is always nice. My fiancé and I like coming here whenever we’re in town or in the mood for Chinese food. Sometimes the flavor varies(like with the same dish on different visits), but it’s never been bad.

I have always enjoyed going here for lunch, the food is good but not great. prices are reasonable and the service is always been good. However yesterday I went with a group of three and they only had one waitress working, we had to ask for tea we had to Asfoor water we had to ask for our bill we were never asked if the food was OK it was ridiculous I felt like I wanted to get up and wait on myself. The whole restaurant was busy and full unlike many times I have been in there because it was the weekend. They only had one waitress working who was not happy to be there. They really need to step it up with another waitress if they’re going to have a crowd especially on a Sunday In the past we have had a Hispanic girl who works there wait on us who is very sweet and very nice she was not there yesterday unfortunately. They really need to read these so they can better serve this small area with not that many restaurants

Our family has been eating at Golden Gong for twenty five years– in the restaurant and home delivery. Overall we have been satisfied with the food and very pleased with the service in the restaurant. Our favorite dish is the War Wonton Soup and PuPu tray. Tonight we ordered home delivery and placed the order at 4:30. I was told it would be delivered within 45 minutes which is normal. At 6 p.m. I called and asked where the order was. The gal who answered was quite confused and finally found that we did place an order and that it was sent out for delivery at 5 p.m. She assured me she would find out where the delivery was and reassured me it would not be cold when it arrived– after over an hour! Fifteen minutes later it did arrive(an hour and 45 minutes after ordered and at a non-busy time) and the delivery guy also assured us it was still warm– we found the food to be tepid/luke warm. This caused it to taste greasy. Also, the War Wonton soup was mediocre at best and did not taste fresh. Not anything close to what we were used to from this restaurant. We will most likely choose other options when we want to have food delivered in the future and ask around to see if the restaurant food quality has gone downhill before we go there again.

The quality in service and food has gone down hill here. The dishes don’t seem to have much flavor anymore. I have always gotten take out at this restaurant and It seems lately, no matter what day of the week or what time of day it is, When I call I’m placed on a long hold and then when I get there, the restaurant is practically empty. The most recent two occasions when I went in to pick up orders there have been maybe two parties dining in. One of those times they completely forgot to make my order and I had to find somewhere to go for an additional twenty minutes. This last time I went(will be my last) once again, nothing going on inside but an additional wait for my order and a lot of attitude from the lady at the register.

Went to Golden Gong today @ 11:45 am. We ordered off the lunch menu. My nephew got the sweet and sour pork and my husband got shrimp in lobster sauce. Each came with an egg roll, 2 wontons, soup and your choice of fried or steamed rice as well as the entrée. My nephew(15yrs old) said everything was really good. Even my husband, who’s rather picky, said the food was good, especially the wontons and the lobster sauce. The restaurant was clean and the waitress was friendly as well. We will go again and try the dinner menu.

Being new to the area and in the mood for some Chinese food, I was checking out Unilocal as usual. At first I was thinking of going to Mei’s since we live in Shell Beach, but all the comments about poor customer service scared me off. So we went to Golden Gong. The service was delightful. Elizabeth was so attentive to our table. We had pot stickers, egg rolls, hot and sour soup, wor won ton soup, mongolian beef(with onions), and sichuan pork. All dishes were solid. I wish the pot stickers had more ginger or at least some in the dipping sauce. We had to make our own dipping sauce but hot oil, soy sauce, and vinegar were provided. The hot and sour soup wasn’t very sour, so I had to add vinegar. Otherwise, no complaints. We will definitely return.

As far as the Central Coast goes this is a great little Chinese place that’s been around for a long time and I have taken many a date to this little spot, it’s a nice little place the building definitely feels like Chinese food but in a nice clean way as most Chinese places are either hit and miss in my book-nice and clean or messy and in an upheaval. Lots of great memories here and the food is pretty good, and it’s going to be quieter than some of the other high traffic buffet having Chinese places in town.

2.5 stars, potstickers were good. Everything else was ok but not great. We had chicken with broccoli, shrimp fried rice and chicken chow mein. The search continues for good Chinese food but I guess I’d return if we don’t find anything better.

I’ve been fighting a cold and thought it would be a good idea to get some wonton soup for me and takeout for the family. Big mistake. Being bay area natives we have spent our share of time in China town and know exactly what decent Chinese food should taste like. This was the worst Chinese food we have ever had and I almost wanted to take it back. The orange chicken was cooked unevenly and in most places, so overcooked that it resembled the texture of rubber. The wonton soup was flavorless and even a couple of splashes of soy sauce didn’t do it any justice. The meat inside the wonton was extremely tough and overall just very difficult to consume altogether. The broccoli beef was okay and the chow mein/fried rice wasn’t too bad but I would never go here again.

I ordered general tso chicken and the breading was so mooshy. I had to remove all the breading to salvage the chicken and make my own Chinese dish. I also ordered egg rolls and wontons. Both were cold and mooshy too. Now I am on the search for a better Chinese restaurant.

My Husband loves asian food since his time in the service and the more authentic the better. We have ordered from Golden Gong in the past and thought this was about the best on the Central Coast until tonight! First off, we ordered and asked our daughter to go by and pick it up after shopping. About 10 to 15 minutes after we ordered she showed up at the restaurant they told her 10 to 15 more minutes so she left and came back. The reason the order was not ready was because of the shrimp. Our daughter went back in 15 minutes and the order was still not ready and was told another 10 to 15 minutes as I said because of the shrimp. When she finally got the order she came straight home which is less then 5 minutes and less then a mile away, and when we got the food out, first off the shrimp was cold, over cooked and VERY greasy. The noodles had a chemical taste and where not good at all! My last order was not too good but wanted to give them one more chance but this being the second time and even worst not again I was sick the last time and I am worried about how greasy the cold shrimp was that I may get sick again. If I can’t find another restaurant then no more chinese food in this area! Have to rate this a great big YUK

I been ordering from Golden Gong for quite some time now. The food is excellent but that depends on who’s cooking and what day you ordered. the last time I ordered food there was on a Sunday, the food was lukewarm and it tasted terrible. That was a deal breaker for me.

The«sweet and sour» ANYTHING here is not served with any type of traditional sauce. Their sweet and sour is just a gelatin sauce that is pink and has a slight sugar free aspartame taste to it. It is awful. All of the meat tastes as though it is fried together; pork, chicken, shrimp, whatever fits in the pan I guess. As a local, I’m disappointed and will not go here again. Sad.

This is by far the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my whole life! Service was extremely unprofessional and lacked common courtesy. The only female server present didn’t even ask my friend if she wanted a drink and walked away can you say rude this should have been our cue to leave. But no we endured more rude service and horrible food. I got sesame chicken which was too sweet and greasy I stopped eating the fried rice was cold the wontons are the strangest unappetizing appetizers I’ve ever witnessed being served. The restaurant is also very dirty and the booths have duct tape on them. The menu’s desperately need replacing come on people take some pride in your business. We will not be returning ever, this place should really be shut down wonder what the kitchen looks like if the dining area is in this sad of shape!!!

Been here numerous times over the years and have yet to have a bad experience. Had dinner Sunday night and the place wasn’t too busy. Were seated right away and offered water and tea. We ordered a dinner special of chicken chow mein, which comes with wonton soup, an egg roll, two wontons, a paper chicken, and a bowl of fried rice. My husband and I definitely could have shared this meal it was plenty of food. We also got the Kung pao chicken entrée which came with an option of steamed or fried rice, an order of chicken fries rice, potstickers, and sizzling rice soup. My parents were also with us so we all tried each of the dishes. The chicken chow mein was good and the wonton soup was also delicious. The fried rice that came with this meal was a little bland but the chicken fried rice was very flavorful. The Kung pao chicken wasn’t too spicy and the potstickers were a generous size and very good as well. Lastly, the sizzling rice soup was very tasty and had a variety of items in it, including some chicken and shrimp. As for the service, our drinks were refilled often and we received all of our food quickly. The waitress was very nice and brought our bill with the standard fortune cookies, although my cookie came without a fortune which I won’t hold against the restaurant. Great Chinese food, will be back!
