Had a ½ cord of mesquite firewood delivered to our house in February. The initial customer service was professional and the wood was delivered with no problems. We noticed carpenter bees in and around the wood in March. A professional bee expert came out and said the bees(or their larvae) must have been present in the wood when it was delivered, based upon the extent of the infestation and tunneling in the wood. Spoke with the owner, Gary Jordan, on the phone. Gary became upset and said the professional bee expert’s opinion was«bullshit», and said there was no way the bees were present in the wood when it was delivered. He didn’t offer to refund our money and/or come dispose of the wood or anything. Now we have to pay to have the firewood professionally treated with pesticide, and pay to have it disposed of properly. It was nice firewood, except for the bees.

We’ve been buying firewood from Paul Bunyan’s for about 5 years now & we’ve been happy with their product, their business & their service up until now. I sent them two emails stating that we wanted to buy more firewood and we hoped to have it delivered the following day. They still have not responded to any of my emails. In spite of receiving no response to my emails, I called Paul Bunyan’s Firewood, again hoping to have firewood delivered the following day and a woman(owner?) who should not be dealing with customers answered the phone. I told her that in the past my husband had dealt with a guy who I thought was the owner. Well, she said she couldn’t find any record of us ever having ordered firewood before and she sounded exasperated, like I was a real pain in the ass. (I later looked it up and we spent over $ 1,300. & that’s ONLY for 2012!) So the woman put me on hold and suddenly a man(owner?) picked up the phone, gave me prices and added that there was a $ 35. delivery fee, plus another fee? When I told him that we had never paid a delivery fee before, he didn’t even acknowledge what I said.(we live in Central Phx– to go from zero to $ 35 for delivery after 5+ years is ridiculous) Anyway, I could tell he was in a big rush too. I’m sure they’re all very busy and I know how the cold weather makes me exceptionally cranky– so I’m not taking it personally. I’m looking for another place to buy firewood.

I had purchased wood here before like to support smaller business vs market leader(Berry Brothers). Called and asked if had oak for wood burning pizza oven was told«yes» drove 30 miles to find out I was lied to, had pecan which I was not interested in had tried before. Very disappointing and he actually was not apologetic in the least. That is poor. Will not be back

Price went up to 25 on a bag of pecan chunks. Still an okay deal but had to drop a star.

As an avid backyard smoker, I found Paul Bunyan to have the best consistent wood for cooking that I have found anywhere in the valley. Very nice people too Update January 2016: Went back for a fresh load. Not sure if this place has changed hands are not, but the young kid that I have never seen before left quite a bit of room for courtesy /customer service. He did not even help me load. Never had issues before. Hoping this is temporary. Based on other reviews, it appears this place has had some kind of change for the worse in recent months. Note to owner: please fix!

It’s starting to get cold so I placed my order online for a ½ cord of Alligator Juniper to be delivered to my house. The wood is two years old already and ready to burn, no aging necessary. The delivery drivers were on time and cleaned up after themselves. They stacked the wood neatly on my wood rack. This is the best wood for your wood burning fireplace and/or fire pit. Lots of pops & crackle, medium heat and little smoke.
