it was my birthday and we came in just to have a drink and then go across the street for dinner… juan, the bartender made us a couple of great cocktails, my GF had a nicely muddled mojito and i enjoyed a spicy margarita… we sat at the bar and the oscars were on… we decided to stay and try the food… i was in the mood for steak and so my GF had a new york and i tried a porterhouse… her’s was tasty and tender, seasoned well… mine was thin, too fatty, the sauce was smokey, spicy and sweet… not the best for a birthday… no chipotle sauce anymore… its was nice to watch the oscars for some odd reason… hahaha…i will be back for cocktails and pupuus!

We made a reservation and were promised a window table, which was given away as we entered the restaurant. Usually not a big deal, but it was a Valentine’s Day Weekend Trip. The server was apologetic, and a little unorganized, but she was doing the best she could. Food is average, but reasonably priced. We will look elsewhere on our next trip to Sea Ranch.

Cove Azul has turned the dining room into a bit of a sports bar with lounge seating along the sides and flat panel televisions. The good news is that food is still as amazing as ever. This place ranks among the best in Mendonoma for quality and value. The calamari is the best I have eaten — fresh, tender and in a very light but super crunchy batter. Sandwiches and salads are way way above average with fresh ingredients, great flavor combinations and good portions. The spicy burger and warm spinach salad are terrific. Only let-down was the home-cut fries which were too thick cut to be tasty, under-salted and with the earthy aspect of the skins which I find unappealing. The view is the best you’ll find as well — get a window seat. Service was friendly and flawlessly attentive.

We were staying at Breakers Inn and the desk clerk recommend this little place that was owned by them as well so we went. Its a small local bar and grill with a great view. Only two of the table have a view but that is besides the point. The point being that the food was pretty bad. Mostly fried seafood and burgers. I didn’t like the idea of fried fish so we went for a burger and steak sandwich. The burger was way greasy and on a flimsy un-toasted white bread bun that turned to mush on the second bite. The steak sandwich was an oversized slab of meat on, again, a plain un-toasted white roll. The meat was twice the size as the bun and very sloppy. Seriously people, a child would make a better sandwich. I’m guessing that if they don’t know how to make a burger then they probably can’t fry fish either. This place has potential but it needs a professional staff and a total makeover. They need to decide if they want to be a local bar that service greasy burgers to drunks or an upscale eatery that they can legitimately recommend to their Inn guests. They can not be both.

Super casual place with dog friendly patio. They have beer on draft and a decent wine by the glass selection. They do a good job with deep-frying — which makes it a four star! When we are staying at Sea Ranch, we always stop here at least once with the dogs. They have a sliver of blue water view from the patio.

This is the third time I’ve been to this establishment and it never fails to satisfy! The service is great and food is wonderful! Love the view of the beach and and how relaxing it is. The clam chowder is worth coming back for — over and over!

Great bartender. She was knowledgeable and made some of our oddball shots we wanted. It’s clean, the food was yum and seating was cool and casual. Makes me want to stop again our next trip through.

I like this place! The manager greeted us at the door, and graciously served us drinks when we were ready. The place has recently been redone, and it looks great. it is now more of a sports bar, and has dancing on New Year’s Eve. But, it still has the same friendly atmosphere and always has.

Not bad but not great. I’m kind of glad we came in with the intention of only getting a cup of chowder and a beer. The chowder was different but kind of good. It reminded us both of a baked potato soup. We ordered a Scrimshaw and decided on an order of the coconut shrimp. It was served with two sauces– a mango salsa(fine, ripe fresh mangos are probably pricy around here but if you’re going to use frozen please make sure it’s thawed out before serving) and a tasty little cream based sauce. We did like the them though!

Skip it! Had the chowder that someone said was the best the ever had– lots of dill and loaded with lumps of dough balls of unmixed flour– blech! Could not finish. The fish sandwich was little pieces of cod on a grocery store bun. Definitely not worth the money. We were there for a late lunch with only one other table and our server tended to us between his pool shots in the bar. So not that attentive. Sat with empty glasses while he took his turn and couldn’t wait to leave. Great location but food not so great.

Monday early evening and nobody else eating yet. Fish and chips: Small nuggets inn a soft coating. I like a large piece of fresh cod with a crisp coating. This was no better than frozen food. Fries were soft and mushy. They need to visit the North Coast Brewing Co in Ft. Bragg to see how it can be done! Grilled Salmon: cooked as requested but arrived luke warm. Obviously sitting for a while while there was nobody else in the place. Soup was split pea and was weak and barely tasted of split peas. Not hot like a soup should be. Our waiter was good, no issues at all. The waiter was understanding when we gave verbal feedback and offered a 15% off as an apology.

Horrible customer service. Starting from the moment walking in. Bus boy said it could be a wait of 30 to an hour thirty. Soup of the day: chicken broth as it was described, it came out as a shred of chicken and vegetables in broth. Surf and Turf is a waste of money. Cut of meat terribly fatty. Three cuts of steak ordered of our party of 6 contained more fat than meat. Do not recommend.

So overall, a terrible experience. Rotten service followed by mediocre to terribly undercooked food. Our waitress’ head was in the clouds. Very flighty. She didn’t know how to describe the soup of the day. It was a chicken soup described as kind of brothy. This is what came out of her mouth. She rolled her eyes when asked for refills of water. She forgot what people ordered for soup/salad. We had a party of 6. Then the food came out. I had crab cocktail which was decent but overpriced. I also had claim chowder which was decent too. I was really craving surf n turf while visiting so I went with that special for $ 24.95. The shrimp kabob was decent. I asked to sub a baked potato instead of garlic mashed. They forgot the baked potato. I then asked for it when the food was brought out. 5 minutes later an undercooked microwaved nuked potato comes out. I cut into it and it was hard. My steak was allegedly an Angus ribeye. Haha no way. It was a grisly fatty mess with this awful mushroom sauce poured over the top of the steak with cold mushrooms in it. I normally order medium steaks because places seems to undercooked them. Mine was basically mooing. I brought up my dissatisfaction to the manager and she tried to validate the undercooked potato to, well you just ordered it and we didn’t have time to cook it. 2 other people in the party also ordered steak and both of their’s were atrocious too so we all complained and got $ 15 knocked off each of our meals. I hope I don’t get sick from this meal. Eat at your own risk. I never complain with just poor service. I normally just let the tip reflect the service but that and the poor quality food, I had to say something.

I rarely ever write reviews on restaurants, but I so impressed with the excellent and phenomenal service we received from Christy, our amazing waitress!!! We celebrated my 41 st. bday and she assisted me on selecting the perfect cocktail based on my likes. And she also came to the table to personally deliver a birthday cake and song for my birthday. It was so sweet and amazing! The food was cooked to perfection as well. I ordered the crab stuffed salmon and clam chowder both were the best I have ever tasted in all my life.(Yum!!) I am so excited to revisit Gualala! This place is so much a hidden gem that I am hesitant to share, but I feel compelled to give credit when credit it is due!!!

OK my Wife got Grilled Red Snapper which she felt was fantastic. I had what they called Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. The sauce was bland, it was runny and it lacked flavor. It really tasted like the cook poured warm milk on pasta and sent it out. No garlic, no noticeable cheese, no spices and no cream — it was milk. The waitress was nice and offered to take it off the bill or discount it. I ordered it and no where on the menu did it say it was good Fettuccine Alfredo so I paid for it but I strongly recommend you pass on the Alfredo. PS I didn’t stiff the waitress either. Not her fault.

We had dinner here one night. It was alright. We both had the Snapper. Mine was blackened. It came with a salad that reminded me of the Spring mix salad you can get at Costco. Now, I’m not saying it’s necessarily from there… it just reminded me of it. The fish was decent enough and seemed fresh enough. There just didn’t seem to be any«umph» to the meal. I don’t know. If ever in town again, I think we would pass on this one.

Sarah, our hostess, and Juan, our server, provided the most wonderful experience for us on Christmas Eve. Some people might be upset about working on the Eve of the big holiday, but not these two. We had pork scaloppini tenderloin, fish and chips, salads, soup, drinks and wine. Everything was wonderful. Juan was spirited and helpful with selecting from the menu. The Parducci wines were delicious and quite a value. We will be returning the next time we are up in Gualala! Check it out, you will love the Cove Azul Bar & Grill!
