Excellent breakfast and coffee. Super pancakes, eggs any style cooked to perfection. Very reasonable prices.

When you walk into an establishment like Sunny Side Up, you understand very well that it’s a reference to the style of eggs cooked. You also hope, expect and dare I say pray that it’s a metaphor for the cheery disposition of the waitstaff and the overall ambiance of the place. However, there must have been a solar eclipse that day, because apparently the only side that got up out of bed was the one that just didn’t give a damn. Now don’t get me wrong, I understand what it’s like to work on a holiday, as I worked all day last fourth of July, but that’s when you either request the time off well in advance so your poor attitude doesn’t have to grace our presence, or you bite the bullet. Unfortunately, as soon as my dad, girlfriend and myself walked in, we could immediately tell someone was all out of ammunition to bite on; more likely than not because they’d been firing at customers all morning. Upon entering, we noticed the only remaining two tops that could fit a third chair were either occupied or dirty, so we asked the girl at the register if we could sit at the larger table. Without a single greeting, she looked at us, then at the table, quickly back to us, mumbled grumpily under her breath then said, «Yeah, whatever.» Now I don’t know what kind of Sweet Valley High drop out you have to be to utter«whatever» as a response, but for the love of god please enroll so you can finish taking Etiquette 101. After seating ourselves without any silverware, napkins, desire to stay or water, a group of about five or six guys came in, which quickly prompted the waitress to give our table a frustrated once-over. Flash back five minutes to when we walked in, to before we were greeted with a whimsical«whatever»; back before our mouths developed that putrid mouth-feel you develop when something poor and unnecessary happens. At that moment, that moment immediately before, I would have gladly volunteered our table to the larger party, for the girl at the counter, because as mean spirited as this review comes off, I’m pretty understanding and generally a nice person. That isn’t what happened though, and that being the case, we all decided to remain at the larger table. Now the entire time all of this is happening, there was a television behind me showing the Woman’s World Cup, but I couldn’t have cared less about that, because my favorite episode of «The Twilight Zone» was on right in front of me; the one about the waitress who decides to ignore a table, go outside and help a group who clearly arrived after, and then ignore the same table some more. It’s a really twisted episode, so I won’t spoil the ending for you. Oh, you’ve seen this one before? Well then, lets continue. So after ignoring our table, probably because you know, «whatever», the solar eclipse begins to end as we are finally helped by a different waitress, who efficiently takes our order and brings us coffee and water. Between our table we order a breakfast sandwich, an omelet with bacon, spinach and mushrooms and another omelet with broccoli, ham and cheddar. At some point while our food was being made, the sun must have shattered and been replaced with a full moon, because the girl at the counter rushes to turn off the neon OPEN sign, since that obviously beckons lycans or some other unwanted creature of the night. However, in order to get to it, she has to get behind my father, whose chair was in the way. Rather than politely say«excuse me», she hastily and desperately tries to squeeze through, impatiently saying«excuse me». When she can’t get to it, and my father is unaware that she’s directing her impatient nicety towards him, she rolls her eyes in an attempt to reduce her mass and reach the fleeting stationary object. I don’t know about you, but there is nothing quite moving and earth shattering as a good eye roll immediately before your breakfast is brought out. I mean, going to the bathroom only to walk out with your food on the table is one thing, but a magnificent and well trained eye roll before witnessing the glory of your order is something else entirely. No offense to the chefs in the kitchen more likely than not working their asses off, but the food tasted like our experience prior; every bite an eye roll, with a side of «yeah, whatever» and a diner mug full of bitterness, hold the sweetener. This isn’t to say the food was bad because it wasn’t, it merely goes to show that an experience can ruin just about everything else. Some might feel the Hidden Kitchen is overrated, but I’d be damned if I’ll accept unprofessional and atrocious etiquette over mediocre food. No matter the price of the menu or the material of the napkins, it’s a dining experience, and one that is significantly shaped and molded in the waitstaff’s hands. If you can’t wake up in the morning, wipe your hands clean and offer up at least adequate service then please, not just for us but for everyone that walks through those doors, go back to bed.

One of the best hidden gems in Guilford. Hidden kitchen is packed on the weekends and rather overrated. Shoreline Diner is fine but unnecessarily expensive. If you’re looking for a solid breakfast place in Guilford this is a great option.

Many great things to get here. Delicious eggs, crunchy bacon, fantastic pancake, a very friendly staff, and small town ambiance are just some of the facets of Sunny Side Up. A great place to go on weekends although it can be a bit crowded. My only complains are it can feel crowded on a busy morning, it can be cold inside if you are near the door, and they do not have real orange juice. Besides that, this is one of the best places in Guilford.

Should have known when we walked in and it was empty… Gross coffee with no flavor options. I’m not terribly picky about coffee, but I couldn’t even finish my cup. Limited menu, no gluten free options. We were told«You can just get an omelet, that’s what most people do». My husband who is celiac hates omelets. So he ended up eating bacon and corned beef hash. My omelet was very good, freshly prepared with quality ingredients. We would probably not go back, it’s hard to call yourself a «coffee shop» and have poor coffee.

Busy, busy place in the heart of downtown Guilford. Food was fresh, service was friendly and fast and food was pretty good. Portions are huge, so come hungry.

Great little breakfast nook around The corner from where I live. I’ve had just about everything on the menu and it’s always high quality and really good. Kids love it as well. Best of all they always fill up your coffee before you have to ask!

Quaint nook of a restaurant. Very friendly staff. The prices are perfect-you get a nice filling meal for a good cost. The food is simple and wholesome. If you want a nice local place to get some tasty pancakes and eggs, for a great price, in a friendly casual atmosphere, this is the place. Will definitely come back frequently.

9:30am on Friday morning and the tables are full and customers are still coming in — that must mean something good is going on. Quaint décor, small town New England feel, neighborhood favorite. Basic breakfast menu with 1 stand out — the apple crisp pancakes. These are a must try. Eggs, sausage and home fries were well prepared. This is a two person operation so don’t expect a attentive service, but she is friendly, efficient and the food was served in a reasonable timeframe, you just get the feeling see is a little overwhelmed.(Maybe usual staff didn’t show up today?) overall a nice place for breakfast that I definitely recommend

I took my friends from out of town here for breakfast last weekend because it was recommended to us by a few people. My girlfriend and I both had omelette’s with our choice of ingredients, which are tough to mess up — so that got an alright review from me. What I was disappointed in was our table ordering the apple crisp pancakes as an appetizer(which came out at the same time as everything else). They were far from crispy, because there was barely any«crisp»! A few oats sprinkled in the center may have sufficed, except for the fact that they were overly salty. Maybe we just caught them on an «off» day as they are recommended by so many, but either way I will stick to my other local breakfast joints before coming back here.

Let me start by saying that breakfast is probably my favorite meal of the day(brunch, more specifically, but you see where I’m going here). Sunny side up is a little diner-style spot off the Guilford Green. It’s conveniently located, but nothing to write home about. We ordered the apple crisp pancakes to share, asking for them as an appetizer. They came out with everything else at the same time. The batter was saltier than it was sweet, and there was very little remnants of any«crisp» except a few soggy steel cut oats. My friend and I made our own omelets, which were good, but the way I look at it, if you mess up an omelet, you should probably reconsider your career in the kitchen. I got a few home fries with the omelet and toast, but not enough to warrant the extra charge. The coffee was okay. They had almond milk, but it froze in their refrigerator, so we all drank our coffees black. I think I’ll stick to Perk on Church from now on.

Eh — this was a very average place. After reading the reviews on Unilocal,I had my taste buds set for a fantastic breakfast. I was disappointed. It was not bad, although I did not like their hashbrowns /home fries at all, the omelet was fluffy and cooked quite well, but was missing flavor. I also consider it a bit pricy for what I got. I probably would not go back.

I don’t really get what people are writing about here. The place is a hole in the wall with mediocre coffee, uninspired menu selections and very meh food. We didn’t order the pancakes which might be the problem. I am not a pancake person so we had eggs, toast and sausage. The toast had literally no taste and was pale and under-done, the eggs were fine and the sausage was out of a package. Nothing was anything remotely out of the ordinary so I don’t see what the reviews are for. Not worth a return trip.

Hard to find but totally worth it. It’s hidden inside of the parking lot complex. The décor is meh, but the food is excellent. Some of the best breakfast fare that we’ve had. My omelette was nice and fluffy and not greasy at all. My partner’s pancakes were equally as yummy and fluffy and not overly sweet. Executive summary: A greasy spoon without the grease!

Busy little spot in Guilford Center. Staff is friendly. Food is a-ok. They have really awesome apple crisp pancakes there, but that is all I really like there so that’s all I order.

Another Sunday full of sunshine on the shoreline and we found ourselves at Sunny Side Up this morning for breakfast. It was our first time and we had an awesome experience. We went around 9:30 and the place was pretty packed with a few minutes of a wait. Small and cramped, but oh, so worth the tight space and minimal wait. We both got variations of the same two eggs any style, with a choice of meat(in our case sausage), toast and homefries. The corned beef hash and chocolate chip pancakes were calling my name but I knew my eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach and appetite, so I saved those to try another time. Still, I drooled over the corned beef hash that the guy ordered at the table next to us. Everything was perfectly perfect and our breakfasts totally hit the spot. My eggs were exactly over easy as I had ordered, and it was lovely to dip the buttered wheat toast. Homefries were some of the best I’d ever had. Sausage was a nice juicy round patty with a lot of flavor. Hot Omar coffee was served in quirky mugs that are all different. Our server was nice and friendly. Can’t wait to come back and try other delicious looking items. One of the specials that caught my eye was an apple crisp pancake that looked and smelled incredible(corned beef hash guy’s lady ordered that). So happy we came here today and already looking forward to going back.
