Great views are your reward for a very short sacrifice of fear and sweat. A very slippery, rock strewn, steep hill starts this hike out. Looks like they are attempting to add stairs and just gave up. Once past that horror is an easy up and down trail with astonishing views. A McMansion development couldn’t mar the sheer beauty… Well, maybe a bit, but, still worth it. Next time I want to bring a thermos of tea to enjoy with the views.

Bluff Head is part of the Mattabesset hiking trail. Located on route 77, there are about 20 – 30 parking spots in a small lot in front of the hiking area. The trail is rather challenging, very steep in spots and winding along a narrow trail next to a cliff with no rails or barriers. It offers the highest point in Guilford, at 720 feet above sea level, with excellent views. You can see all the way to Hartford and Long Island. Fun for hiking and picnicking!
