In 2012 I contracted Advanced Insulation of North West Florida, Inc. to install closed-cell spray foam insulation in the attic and above the garage in my home. During this installation, one of their workmen stepped through my ceiling in several places. At first, the crew denied that this had happened. I had the owner inspect the damage personally to verify the damages. I also took several photographs to document the damages. I hired a contractor with whom I was well-experienced to perform the repairs on my ceiling. Advanced Insulation paid for the cost of those repairs. When my contractor was repairing the ceiling, he noticed that an entire side of my attic was not sprayed with the spray foam insulation. Because of this, cooled or heated air was vented from my house to the atmosphere, which effectively negated any insulating properties of the work that Advanced Insulation had performed. I notified the company of this and the owner himself returned to complete the job. In 2015, my attic was inspected as part of the Rebuild North Florida program. The inspector noted that there were several gaps in the spray foam insulation, as well as multiple areas where the spray foam was less than the required 3 inches. Several of these gaps were big enough to allow daylight into the attic. The inspector also noted that my attic was noticeably very humid. If the spray foam insulation had been properly installed, the attic should have been as comfortable as the rest of the house. The presence of humidity was proof that the attic was not properly sealed. In essence, I have been venting heated and air-conditioned air to the atmosphere since the foam seal insulation was installed in 2012. I assumed that after two return visits by the owner, that the job was completed satisfactorily and that the attic was sealed with the 3 inches of closed cell insulation as stated on the invoice. I did not expect substandard work from a company that claimed to be based upon Christian principles. At additional personal cost, I contracted another company to remedy this situation.
