I’ve been to beaches all over the west and east coast and the Gulf is hand down my favorite. By comparison, it seems much cleaner than other beaches, especially the Ft. Morgan area that as of yet has not been overrun with large volume condos and surf shops. There are 3 restaurants within 5 miles in either direction and plenty of single family homes and condos on the waterfront. This means it is a bit more secluded than other beaches and the perfect place for a family to vacation or to unload illegal refugees from Cuba. Plenty of people are there getting their suntan, but it’s not as over-crowded as many beaches I have been to. It’s Alabama so you’re not going to see the bikini clad beauties that line the beaches of Miami or Southern CA, but there are enough to still need sunglasses to keep your wife or girlfriend from checking them out. Just remember to follow with your eyes and not your head. That’s how people get stabbed. The fishing from the beach isn’t bad and you can catch meal sized Bluefish, Flounder, Speckled Trout, and the fun to catch but not to eat Ladyfish. There are also small Whiting and Catfish that will mostly eat your bait. Frozen shrimp or live shrimp on a bottom rig is the way to go for surf fishing. If you’re wanting to catch a bigger variety and larger fish, head down to Gulf Shores State Park and hit the pier for about $ 6 a day. There you can catch Mullet, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel and a variety of baitfish. Just don’t forget your AL fishing license. You can get that at the pier or at Wal-Mart in town.
