We went for lunch with friends and had a good time. The atmosphere was good and the service was okay. It took the waitress about ten minutes to finally get me the beer I requested, but other than that, she did well. We ordered two apps, the boiled shrimp and the fried pickles. The boiled shrimp was good and the fried pickles were okay. I really enjoyed the jambalaya pasta. My wife had the cheese burger and it was good too. It’s pricy for what you get, but it’s one of those places you go to because of it’s history, so you can say that you’ve been there. Ultimately, it is what it’s supposed to be, a tourist attraction with food that’s better than most touristy restaurants. The live music was done well and made for a good atmosphere too. If it weren’t for the cost and the ten minute wait for the beer, I’d probably give it a 4.5 or 5.

Beautiful location, the only thing that separates the building from beach is a small parking lot. The property features inside and outside bars, large dining area, gift shop, and a decent size stage for concerts. They even a large sand box and sand pile with toys for the kids which was a nice touch that made it fun for the whole family. From what I was told The Hangout has many special events especially throughout the summer months. We happened to be there for the women’s national beach volleyball championship, the place was packed for lunch on a Tuesday. The food is average, typical bar food, nothing stood out, but no major flaws. Service was great in typical southern hospitality fashion.

Very disappointed that it’s in the mid-60s at the beach and they are out of stock of local beers even though there are 2 flags at the entrance advertising them. Bad management on The Hangout’s side…

Have eaten their many times. Great comfort food, burgers are excellent as are their oysters and shrimp. The Hangout is appropriately named in that it is a nice sports bar to hang around watch sports and have a fe beers. Their wait staff knows the menu and are friendly and helpful. Prices are what you would expect. The recently changed their menu and no longer serve draft beer or nachos. I would have given them 5 stars if they had draft beer and nachos. A sports bar with No Nachos? They need to bring them Bach they were great Loved to stop in have a beer and share nachos with friends.

Gonna make this real quick for ya… Food is nothing to brag about. There is nothing special on the menu. The service is typical southern treatment-outstanding. The ambiance is awesome. They have stuff for the kids and adults but I must admit it kinda sucks when the place is crowded but I guess that isn’t really an issue. Downed 2 stars just because the food is important and I was looking for more of an eclectic menu. Great place to see though!

Horrible food! Ordered a stuffed baked potato and they brought out a plain baked potato with a cup of butter, cheese, and bacon all mixed up that smelled terrible. When I added it to the potato it instantly reeked of a sour smell and tasted DISGUSTING! My husband even tried it and literally spit it out. He ordered nachos which were $ 15 and looked like canned taco meat threw on top of some tortilla chips and were less than tasty. Over priced horrible food… STAYAWAY The manager at least came to apologize, but I still left eating nothing and stomach upset.

Okay. We went to The Hangout during Shrimp Festival as a nice break in walking around. We ordered a few beers and watched some college football. Well, I did not follow my own advice and we ordered food. I guess that everything can change because our food was quite good. I am going to edit my initial review as I want to be fair toward the establishment. We ordered crab claws which were very good and were nice sized. The fried pickles were good. We also ordered Hang 10 burgers, and they were very good, as well. Patties were thick and cooked to order. The chicken fingers were very good, as well. The kids loved them. All in all, a very nice experience. Finally, they have items on the menu that match the atmosphere and drink quality.

Went here on a recent trip to the beach and was impressed with the atmosphere. The three star rating comes mostly from the feel of the place, the amount of TVs, the really high ceiling, the stages, play area for kids, etc. The food though, well, let’s say my wife hated her Reuben and my fish tacos had way too much cheese(fish tacos don’t normally come with cheese at all in my experience). The parking lot is small, so you will probably have to park in a lot next door, which costs $ 5. Seriously, paying to park when you’re at the beach is ridiculous IMO, but that’s Gulf Shores making those rules. At least you only have to pay during spring and summer, so on a return trip in the offseason months, parking would be free. We went on a Saturday night, so they had all their TVs tuned to college football. The high ceiling and amount of TVs gave it a much different(and better) feel than say BWW. They didn’t have High Life, but they did have Fat Tire, among others. I’m not sure how much the beer cost, but I would assume a bit more than average due to the location. The little football field they have for kids and the stages help you kill time walking around after eating. It’s right near the beach too, so that’s also an option. Overall, it’s a good spot to hit, just don’t get your hopes up about the food.

As an avid traveler, I typically stay away from tourist traps, but the music coming out of this place drew me in. Unfortunately, it is exactly what I thought it was going to be – overpriced alcohol, irritated bartenders, and tons of what appeared to be underage kids sloppily drunk. The few pros included the live band they had going prior to the DJ, as well as the setup in the middle which included tons of seating, games, and two stages. The location is in a great place for those interested in immersing yourself in tourist nightlife.

Pros: the service was very friendly and prompt, our waiter was very attentive. The view is AWESOME, we ate on the porch and watched the waves crash on the beach. Our food was average, Husband had a Wagyu burger and I had fish tacos. The fish was trout, which is a fresh water fish… not what I expected at the gulf but it was good. We also had fried pickles. Cons: pretty expensive for the type of food they’re serving. Don’t expect to eat for less than $ 14 a plate, and if you are planning on fresh seafood it’s probably going to be at least twice that as its all market price. I was hoping to get shrimp but everything they offered was fried, which was a little disappointing although I’m sure if asked they could prepare it differently. As Husband puts it, «I wouldn’t drive for miles for the food, but I’d eat here again if we were in the area.» Or maybe we’d just come back for a drink on the porch.

Great location right on the beach in Gulf Shores. The restaurant is very large with indoor and outdoor dining. The outdoor area has live music, and sand play area for kids, and games for adults. Family friendly. The service was surprisingly fast and the staff were fun and friendly. We had the spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer and I had the shrimp and Grits for my dinner. It is hard to find good shrimp and Grits but they nailed it. Great times and I would go back.

Food is «okay», definitely not worth the price, but you pay for the atmosphere, which is exceptional. Large sandy area for kids to play and bungy trampolines for kids too, large stage where love music plays almost everyday, the place is open to air and can get a little hot if there isn’t a breeze. Fun gift shop and interesting décor throughout the place. The servers are lively loud music playing, confetti being thrown, people dancing to fun tunes on the tables. fun place to be entertained for you and kids. We went back and did the Pirates and Princess Breakfast, which I would recommend, they have a show and take the kids on a «treasure hunt» the Pirates and Princesses engage well with the children. Breakfast was good even though they were out of gravy the morning we went :( If you aren’t here by 4pm good luck. this place gets packed. $ 5 for parking so be careful if you pay and decide not to stay for dinner because of the crowd, it isn’t refundable.

This is a better bar than restaurant and their menu selection is actually more on the concise end of the spectrum. They have a great view of the ocean and seem to always draw a crowd so the environment and vibe is energetic. The Gulf fish of the day sandwich is usually my go-to item here. This is also the home of the Hangout Music Fest so that’s also a great time.

Very rowdy place to be! If you’re looking for great food, this may not be the place for you. It’s more of a «scene.» Lots of fun for the kids. Very, very loud. Dancing on chairs and tables is encouraged, believe it or not. Typical gulf food: fried shrimp, catfish, etc. Good selection of kids’ meals. The wait is usually at least one hour; it was two hours as we were leaving. Nice beach view!

How do you rate this place? For food and drinks, I’d say a 2 or 3. For atmosphere and activities, I’d give it a 4−½. Our first time in, we waited for a table and ordered some wings, mac & cheese, and drinks. It was an expensive bill. The wings were seasoned and had a little cup of dipping sauce on the side. The mac & cheese was pretty good. I ordered a bushwhacker and couldn’t taste the alcohol. On this aspect, I’d say it’s not worth the stop. The food/drinks are on the pricey side for what you get. After we finished at the table, we roamed around a bit outside, listened to the band a little, and enjoyed the entertainment inside the building when the band was on a break. I think the place is awesome on this front. You can roam around, grab a drink outside if you want, just«Hangout.» My teenagers wanted to go back again, so we made another trip. It’s worth a visit for the atmosphere alone. I would recommend to eat elsewhere first.

We went to The Hangout twice in our five day stay in Gulf Shores. The atmosphere was pretty great! The waitresses we had were very kind, the first waitress we had even greeted us again on our second trip. There was a point in which all of the«crew» started dancing, we all sang a fantastic rendition of Fresh Prince, while playing our TV show theme song game. The shake that my child got with her meal was HUGE, the BBQ nachos were my favorite thing. It was great. All in all the crew was kind, and very attentive, the food was great, and it was an overall great experience.

My family actually had a good time here. It’s a place where if you don’t have a babysitter and you still want to have a good adult time the kids can have fun and so can you. It’s a diverse crowd. Families, teenagers, 40s and up. Dancing on tables, games for kids, foam machine, different bars, loud music, etc. It’s pretty wild. And worth checking out. I’d recommend to go about 7, . have fun :) I did not eat here, so I cannot comment on food.

Terrible service. Went here around 8:15pm on a Tuesday. The place was pretty empty with some patrons at the bar and people sitting on the patio and eating. There were many hostesses and servers around. We walked to the front desk to see a hostess for seating as directed by the sign at the door. This hostess table really should be at the front of the restaurant and not far in the back by the gift store. We were promptly seated on the patio and given menus. The next part is what really sucks. We sat there for probably 20 minutes and no one came to check on us for what we wanted to order. I was even making faces and obvious movements when some waitresses went to tables near us to serve those tables. The drinks and food are pricey anyway with limited choices so I wasn’t the most excited. Needless to say, no one ever came to see us and we got up to leave, even when a waitress was at a table next to us. None of the servers or hostesses even noticed us leaving the empty place. This place is terrible.

I go every year since not long after it opened. However, I had a couple qualms this past visit. Yes, I know I need to expect it to be packed because it is a main attraction of Gulf Shores. However, the uncontrollable kids running around can get a little old. It takes a lot to annoy me, but a lot of times parents will just let their small children run around without an eye on them and it gets a little too much to handle. I have watched gift shop/drink/food prices rise to ridiculous amounts over the years. My friend on this past visit waited 25 minutes for one drink… The food may have been impressive at one time but the only reason I go no is to socialize and hear some bands. I always eat before coming now because 1) The food quality doesn’t match the price. 2) It takes way too long from the time you sit down till you actually get food. They either need more help at nights at the bar or need to expand their building! I do give them props for their picture spots and obviously the great live music. The nostalgia in the décor and little activities like the wish wall are what keep me coming back. Honestly there are good things and bad about the Hangout, but as the years have gone by it feels more and more like a hectic circus act when you’re inside having to bob and weave through the crowd and try not to step on little ones running at 90 to nothing.
