Updating my original review to 3 stars. The new salsa is a very thick tomato base and tastes like it is poured straight from a 128oz Restaurant Depot can. It’s not nearly as good as the pico from before. Another thing — the last few times that I’ve ordered the roast pork cuban there was a lot more bread than pork. Lisa is super sweet and I hear that Kelly is gone :-(

Stopped by here early one weekend evening after looking up reviews on Unilocal. We really enjoyed it! I loved that they had so many vegetarian options. We had black bean fritters for an app. They were very tasty and kind of reminded us of Indian flavors. I had the coconut curry bowl, which I really enjoyed. My boyfriend had the meatloaf, which he liked and said it tasted like it was mixed with cornmeal. He doesn’t care for plantains so I ate them and they were sooooo good. He also was given black beans and rice as well as two pieces of cornbread, which he shared with me. The cornbread was a little dry for my liking but the flavor was good. We had a couple of beers. they had some ‘island’ beer offerings as well as local craft beers. Food was good, service was prompt and I loved the vibe of the place. I wish we lived closer.

Wonderful! Food is absolutely Delicious– the atmosphere is Beachy and relaxed– the breeze is always blowing down this street– service is excellent– Live Beachy music on Sundays!!! Felt as if we were in the Carribean– Mary is the wonderful hostess who will make you feel at home and serve you drinks while you wait for menus — she HIGHLY recommended the mimosa flights — so good! It’s 4 different mimosas flavored with 4 different juices– They also have beer flights — Perfect for brunch! The Tex mex Migas were to die for– I didn’t expect so much out if eggs but the tortillas and green and red bell peppers and onions made the dish. Get them with chorizo !!! They also offer many types of hot sauce — The Cuban sandwich was perfect– I told them I had to catch a plane and they cooked my brunch FAST to make sure I got to eat. That was priceless. COME HERE!

Tangelos service was 5 stars, we brought 3 hungry kids and 2 adults in after a day out on the boat and they were super friendly and helpful. Our sandwiches were fine, hubby had the burger on pretzel bread, I had the cuban sandwich. The cuban was underwhelming, just not what I expected in terms of quality. Fries were food service fries, not fresh fries. This place is good, solidly good, not great but good. The staff though is super friendly and I would try it again.

I love this place sitting outside and enjoying the great food on the menu! Many great choices but definitely recommend the chicken mojo or the huge delicious pretzel cheeseburger. Dont forget the jerk fries either. Sunday brunch is also a sure bet with an awesomely good Cuban egg sandwich with fresh fruit or the banana pancakes or the island french toast … Gosh I can’t wait for Sunday!

I have been eating their food for over 20 years. It is always awesome. The Chicken Mojo is my favorite but when I’m here more than once a week I rotate through the sandwiches. We have also enjoyed many Sunday brunches and dinners. Will keep coming back as long as their cooking.

Had the banana pancakes and they were delicious! to top it off I have to mention the sausage links that came with it. I am not sure if they are home made or not but they are the best I have ever eaten! I always order sausage links with my breakfast and I am 52 years old. These were the best I ever had… the flavor… the spices… unbelievable! The next day I had a Cuban. It was good but not the best I ever had. The pork portion was small. I should have complained(removed two stars here though) and they would have probably corrected it but I was in a hurry. I will try this place again and I hope it is good.

OMG this was such a huge dissapointment! My husband and I loved this place when it was downtown and we were so excited to see it open again in Gulfport.. I have been 2 times now thinking the first time was a fluke, both times service was horrible, practically waited on ourselves, had to go inside for refills, ketchup, silverware And Our check… Today was the second and last time I will EVER go there the pork sandwich was cold and total congealed pork fat. I am shuddering just thinking of my first bite… Do yourselves a favor and go next door to Stella’s where the wait staff actually waits on you and the food is scrumptious. …

Great experience! Had lunch outside on Christmas eve day… and had very cheerful waitress. The special, Crab and Shrimp Burger with Seafood Gumbo was very tasty, espcially followed by Key Lime Pie. A great place to watch people and dogs go by.

Their mojo chicken sandwich is the best! It’s an intimate restaurant with a hint of carribean and spanish flair. It has a laid back atmosphere and great service. The food is affordable and the staff are super friendly.

It’s been too long since I’ve visited Tangelo’s and it is all my fault. The Cuban sandwich with their soup of the day, a Chipotle chicken, really hit the spot. Going to have come back for the Chicken Mono.

My husband and I went there this morning for breakfast. soon after we parked our car and was up on the sidewalk a lady said to us «have a seat anywhere you like ». Very eager for us to sit. There was a sign of the breakfast specials and a breakfast menu that was brought to us. The menu was one sided single menu with few options. I ordered the Pumpkin pancake special with eggs and sausage. My husband ordered the 2 eggs with toast which came with potatoes. As we sat we noticed that the restaurant next door,(it was so close that I thought it was all one place) there was a line of people waiting to sit over there. I should have known that was a clear clue to get in line over there. The breakfast arrived to the table next to us, 2 eggs, toast and sliced tomatos. The toast was a ½ inch thick by 4 inch x 1 inch wide piece of bread toasted. I swear, it was literally 2 bites of toast. Now our breakfast arrives, I had ordered my eggs scrambled with cheese. The pumpkin pancakes with about 4 inch round and just ok, sort of doughy. my eggs were the fake eggs with barely any cheese. The sausage was 2 brown and serve links, I recognise the stuff as I buy it. My husbands eggs were real, he had them cooked over medium. His potatoes were served room temp… and very small portion. I looked to be about 1⁄3 of a cup if that. His toast was the same as served at the table next to us. ½ inch thick, 4 inch long by 1 inch wide. Literally 2 bites of toast. No butter on it so my husband asked for butter and jelly, she brought the butter which was a few cut chunks of butter cut off a stick of butter and the jelly was a pepper jelly. She said that is the ONLY jelly that they have. I fully see why there was a line waiting NEXT door. We also had 2 cups of coffee … our breakfast cost $ 18. I was waiting for our server to ask how our breakfast was … no one asked how we liked it. Its not that it was any one thing that was just not right, the whole experience as a whole was just wrong . Average sandwich but at an Average price. I met my brother here for lunch one day. I remember eating at the downtown location years ago, but I didn’t recollect anything about my meal. Today I ordered the traditional Cuban. It was fine-I don’t think there was Swiss cheese on it. It almost tasted like white american. The ham was just typical cold cut meat. The pork was good. Nice and roasted and shredded. My brother ordered the mojo chicken sandwich. It appeared to be shredded chicken pressed on Cuban bread with hot peppers mixed in. If I was in the area, I’d eat here but I wouldn’t search it out.

This review is incomplete as we only had coffee when we went there. Its a cute little Caribbean themed place in Gulfport– another cute little town. The trouble with this place is it is so colorful and has plenty of signs– except when you’re walking right past it, you don’t see the name of the place at all. We were just looking for a place to grab coffee and the café next door was already closing. We were about to pass by this place but I convinced Justin we should check it out anyway. The waitresses may also own the place, I’m guessing. It had a very down-home in the islands feel to it and they greeted all the other customers by name. Seems like a local favorite. As a result, we got ignored in comparison and I kept having to stare into the waitress’ eyes(as creepy as that sounds) to get her attention. They didn’t get our coffee refill ready in the timeliest manner, and same with the check. Still– we didn’t try the food. And perhaps it’s just that whole island mentality of ‘hey no rush mon”. But… I don’t share that mentality even though my tropical origins may suggest otherwise. The coffee was good, though. I’m willing to give this place another try but that’s it for now!

This is another place I want to absolutely love, but the food and service are not consistent enough to warrant additional stars. The Good: — Great location with inside and outside seating — Cuban bread used for sandwiches is awesome — Fried plantains are generally good The Bad: — Service is either great or awful. I can understand slower service if you’re busy, but many of the times I went there, the waitress only had 1 – 2 tables. Sometimes the servers were short with me and friends. — Food isn’t always consistent. I got the same sandwich on more than one occasion and it was as though I was eating two different sandwiches. I would like this place more if there was more consistency with food and. Overall, average place to enjoy Caribbean style food.

Nice little Caribbean joint we discovered here during GeckoFest. I had Mango Jerk Chicken which was tender, spicy and sweet, served with black beans and rice, fried plantains and salad. Great service, nice outside table, good beer selection, give ‘em a try!

Good place, good food, with some weaknesses… The evening meals are fantastic. The cubans(as noted by almost every person) are superb and tasty. The sangria is also outstanding. The service the evening we went was really poor. The place was empty except for one table of regulars. The waitress found it more fun to flirt with a man at that table and spend a lot of time in that corner chitchatting while we languished. Frustrating. She was very absentminded since she was so focused on her friends, and our experience suffered. Went again for the new brunch option Saturday… yeesh. I get that they are new to the lucrative breakfast gig, but at least SHOWUP to the game! The bacon was hands down the worst I have been served in any restaurant in the last ten years. not only was it served in a flat, dessicated pile which looked the the remains in a bottom of a potato chip bag, but it had a bitter, «old grease» taste which stuck in my craw for hours afterwards! Also had the«belgium waffles» with butter rum sauce and strawberries. The waffles were about as Belgian as my uncle Salim. They were two small, square waffles that honestly tasted no better than Eggo, and were only slightly thicker. The butter rum sauce served to turn them into very limp, sopping things as well(as the waffles themselves were not well cooked on the outside). We had the fritatta special as well, which was dry and«not special in any way». I doubt I’ll be back after being so turned off twice in a row. Too many options here.

While in Florida, why not try some exotic Cuban food? I have had fried yucca before, and I love it… but I had never tried yucca fries before. So of course we ordered that, and they were quite tasty. Very crispy with just the right amount of mushyness on the inside. Such a great alternative to everyday french fries.
The bf, being vegetarian, ordered the Jamaican jerk veggie burger. He said it was good and ate every bite. I ordered the Key West conch burger, which came with two crispy crunchy delightful ground Turks & Caicos conch on a nice bun with garlic mayo. I loved every bite, and the garlic mayo was awesome. I even asked for a side of it to dip my fries. To make the burger even more tasty, I added a dollop of calypso hot sauce. Yummy. Unfortunately we were too stuffed and too pressed for time to order a slice of key lime pie. =( Would definitely return if I ever happen to be in Gulfport.
